Chapter 1 - Prologue

Prologue

In the ancient temple of the Xuemo Sect, a sacred ritual was being prepared for the birth of a child. It was a common tradition—an old practice passed down through generations to protect and bless the newborn with divine guidance.

Master Han Ziyue, the successor of the Xuemo Sect, personally oversaw the ceremony. Among the few invited to witness this important moment was Lin Chaoyuan, a powerful general from a respected sect.

As the chanting of mantras reached its peak, a woman suddenly burst into the temple, cradling a baby in her arms. Her name was Queen Guzuie.

"Stop it—don't say the chant!" she screamed, breathless and wild-eyed.

"This mantra is cursed! Someone has changed it—please, do not speak it!"

But the temple was filled with the booming sound of ritual incantations. No one heard her. She screamed louder, desperate—but it was too late.

The sky turned black in an instant. A crack appeared in the heavens, and from it, not thousands—but millions of spirits poured out. Screaming, hungry, and enraged, they devoured everything. Nothing survived—not the monks, not the soldiers, not even the king. All were swallowed, except for one child—the baby with a talisman stuck to his forehead.

On that talisman, a name was written: Yu Sui.

In a matter of hours, half the kingdom was gone. Only two small clans managed to survive the calamity.

Queen Guzuie, pale and trembling, turned toward Lin Chaoyuan, her voice shaking with fury.

"Lin Chaoyuan...!

You betrayed us!

You changed the mantras… You're a traitor!"

But she didn't waste another moment. She ran toward the child Yu Sui, removing the talisman from her own forehead. Placing her own son beside Yu Sui, she tied their small hands together and began to chant a powerful binding spell.

The spell demanded a sacrifice. Before Lin Chaoyuan could reach her, she took a blade and slit her own throat.

The ritual was completed. The spell was sealed forever.

From that day on, yousuie—her son—and mo yan were eternally bound by an unbreakable mantra. Lin Chaoyuan took the unconscious Mo Yan away. But Yu Sui remained there, crying beside the Queen's body.

A small piece of paper fluttered out from Mo Yan's robes. It had been hidden beneath his clothes—placed there by Queen Guzuie. As the wind carried it across the ruins, it landed near Yu Sui.

On it, a message was written:

"Yu Sui, as long as Mo Yan stays by your side, no curse will ever harm you.

And Mo Yan

as long as Yu Sui is with you, you will never miss me."

—Guzuie

In a land still scarred by the past, mist spread across the fields. A young girl, barely eighteen, stepped out from the fog and took Yu Sui away with her.

Years passed. In the heart of a battlefield, the sky cracked once again. A dark rift split open above, and Yu Sui floated mid-air, descending slowly.

Below him, Mo Yan was on his knees, supported only by his sword, wounded and barely able to breathe. His eyes widened at the sight of Yu Sui.

"Because of me… you've been exiled," Yu Sui said softly. "I can't allow that."

Mo Yan's voice broke, filled with pain.

"No…! Don't go… Yu… wait…"

But Yu Sui had already turned toward the rift. The black void swallowed him whole.

Mo Yan reached out in vain as officers from the Liuguang Sect arrived and seized him. Yet even as they dragged him away, Mo Yan's eyes never left the empty sky where Yu Sui had vanished.
