Chapter Four
I looked silently at the reflection in the man's eyes—the pale face and the pink tattoos carving lines into his skin like ink.
Two glowing golden eyes stared at me. The rank words chosen by Muzan were inscribed in the center of the pupils.
His short pink hair was neatly styled.
His skin, white as bone, reflected the harsh path he had taken, and his taut muscles told of the thousands of battles he had fought.
The sharp features and fierce gaze had only grown stronger after his transformation into a demon.
"Magnificent."
Because I spent time admiring the reflection in the man's eyes, I didn't notice the axe that had already cut through half of my body.
"Argh…"
I felt the taste of iron fill my mouth before a large amount of blood came out.
I looked at the axe now embedded in the center of my body in horror.
"Damn it."
I felt tremendous pain from the heavy strike delivered by that bastard.
"Ugh… damn it…"
Pain was flooding my mind with every passing moment.
All my thoughts were scattered in that instant.
Am I going to die?
Is this really the end? But why did things turn out like this?
I tried to maintain my composure by biting my lower lip, but because of the axe in my chest, I bit harder than expected.
Blue blood ran down my lip before the wound healed completely.
I looked at the wound on my lip—it had already healed.
I grabbed the axe in the middle of my chest before throwing it away.
Regeneration...
As soon as I threw it away, the already-severed tissues began to pull toward each other until the wound healed completely.
"Very good."
Honestly, I liked this body's new healing ability, but the pain was still present, so you could consider it somewhat of a drawback.
If it were a normal demon, it would take several minutes, but in this body, not even two seconds had passed before all damaged tissues regenerated.
I looked at the old man who was trying to attack again, but this time I wouldn't overlook his actions.
I had felt unimaginable pain from the axe of that bastard.
Even though I wouldn't be injured or anything if I dodged it—and I could, of course—but the image I saw in his eyes made everything clear.
The trees weren't soft, it was the owner of the body who was unnatural, and the wind—it seemed to be his own wind.
You couldn't consider it a skill, because Akaza used his overwhelming physical strength to compress the wind—but then, what would his true power be?
All those thoughts disappeared when I felt the axe approaching my face.
"Don't move."
As soon as I uttered those words, the entire area was filled with killing intent.
I was astonished by the amount of killing intent this body held.
"Ughhh…"
The old man couldn't bear the overwhelming aura and collapsed to the ground, vomiting.
I looked at him with a bit of pity.
Even though I was angry now, I could understand what he was trying to do.
"Stand up now."
The killing intent calmed down before I allowed the old man to stand again.
"Remember, if you try to attack again, I can't guarantee your life."
The old man trembled before starting to cry.
"Please eat me only… don't touch my family, please…"
"I know my request is unreasonable, but please… sobbing…"
When I saw the old man crying at my feet, I couldn't help but sigh.
"Is there a nearby city?"
As soon as I said those words, the old man's face turned pale, and his body began to tremble.
Maybe he thought I was planning to cause a massacre there.
"It's this way… thirty days' journey."
The old man pointed east, his body shaking with fear.
Even though he suspected I might commit a massacre, he quietly showed me the way to protect his family, without trying to act like a hero.
Honestly, I started to like this old man.
He showed me the way calmly to protect his family and didn't try to act noble at all.
I looked at the path he pointed to before looking back at the old man.
"I want you to prepare an empty room for me."
The sun was about to rise, and I didn't think I could reach the city in such a short time.
The old man looked at me with a tearful and terrified face before breaking into tears again.
"Thank you… I promise I'll give you the best room in the whole house."
The old man quickly ran to the old woman to tell her something.
And since my hearing is strong, I knew he was explaining what was happening.
"Please, sir, this way."
The whole family started crying before inviting me inside.
When I entered, the room was a bit old, but it was at least decent.
I lay on the bed, unable to understand what had happened today.
Especially since I had become a character from an anime I used to watch.
Even though the ending was incredibly frustrating, I never wished to come here—and definitely not in the body of an Upper Moon demon.
So, is there a system like the ones superheroes get or not?
I have to make sure there's a system, and I don't know what I'll do if there isn't one.
I think I'll actually start crying if there's no system.
"Alright… I'll try at least."
"System."
To be continued…
