Chapter 6 - SARAH VEIL: VEIL

Sarah Veil walks through the snow in her dark attire. A hat over her head to cover her ever-present smile and red lipstick. Sarah Veil was something else. The first of her kind in fact, and she had to make sure it stayed that way. Sarah reaches a cliff, it overlooks a small village. She smiles revealing two sharp teeth by her sides. A living breathing vampire, that's what she was, and this village's witch was going to know not to mess with her. She turns to the side. There is a child, staring at her. A girl.

"Oh hello." Sarah says in a calm cold voice, the girl smiles. "Can you show me the way down this cliff? I need to visit your lovely village." The girl smiles widely, Sarah Smiles back, revealing her teeth. The girl gasps.

Sarah walks into the village alone. Eyes meet her as she moves silently observing the people. An Inuit tribe. They are not known for violence, but a wicked one lives among them. Sarah stops, she hears the voice of a mother calling.

"Tutu, Tutu." a small woman calls out. She asks around for Tutu. "Have you seen my little girl?" Sarah takes notice of her and smiles. Her teeth revealing themselves again. The woman turns and notices her. She asks below her breath the man next to her. "Who is she?" but Sarah hears and turns away.

"A stranger, she just came into the village." The man said, "and I think Tutu went up the hill, maybe they met."

"That girl, I told her not to go up that place." The mother said gravely, "and there's a stranger, what if...."

"Mama?" A little voice says, Tutu's mother turns to see her little girl, the one Sarah had met, smiling naughtily. "Mama, how are you?"

"What do you mean how are you? I was so worried and..." She turns back to see Sarah, but she is long gone.

"Mummy?" The girl calls

"Uhhh. Nothing, let's head home, and no fish stew for you."

"Ahnnn, mummy, but I met this nice lady today she had big teeth..."

Anaku Sani, the village priestess, sits in a hut. Long black hair, getting old and freckly. Her clothes were raggy brown and thick for the weather. She placed blessings over the couple before her. Her large tent harboring animal skins and bones. Concoctions of colorful oils in jars arranged systematically on the floor. The smoke from the stick she held over their heads fills the room.

"Mama Anaku. Thank you for the blessings" says the groom. "We brought you gifts."

"You are too kind." Anaku replies.

"That praise belongs to you, for choosing our family for your special blessings." The Bride points out.

"Indeed." A voice says behind them. They turn to see Sarah Veil, standing at the entrance. Anaku grips the head of her staff tightly. Nobody notices.

"Uhh sorry." The Groom says, "it seems you have another session, priestess."

"Yes my child, blessings upon your home and family, go with Joy."

"Thank you priestess." The couple says with a bow, then leave. Anaku stands holding her stick.

Sarah turns to watch them as they go. They are happy and greeting other villagers. Sarah Smiles underneath her hat.

"Did you tell them the blessing you gave them just robbed them of a healthy life." Sarah turns to see the witch standing, giving her a nasty frown. "You nasty nasty witch." Sarah finishes.

"How did you find me?"

Sarah laughs a bit. "I asked around, you know." Sarah walks further in, the witch takes a step back. "So a little Birdy told me of an Inuit priestess, that rains blessings on her people, and her description of you was very very accurate. It painted a familiar picture." She stops, "so here I am." There is an awkward pause and silence between them as they stare at each other. "So.." Sarah says, "how are we going to do this?"

"Akanow...!" The Witch tries to chant, but a blink and Sarah covers the distance and decapitates her, but it is too late. The witch turns to smoke, she's escaped.

"Ha. Sneaky aren't you." Sarah says turning to the hut, the witch nowhere to be seen.

Out in the snow a thundering horse feet is heard. Anaku rides on it, desperate to flee the village. The villagers wonder as they see her leave, not knowing their dear priestess was leaving them in fear of the blood sucker. Anaku looks back, no sign of Sarah pursuing. She looks ahead and nearly falls off her horse as she struggles to slow it down, seeing Sarah Veil a distance before them with her signature smile, standing at ease holding the sheathed sword by her side. Anaku quickly turns left to flee that direction. Sarah follows, matching the speed of the horse as she giggles, scaring the old witch more.

"Get away from me, I made you, you can't do this." Anaku shouted.

"No, no, no. You all made me, and I didn't want this! You are accomplices! And now..you must die!"

The Witch wails in fear and Sarah takes the opportunity and pounces, her sharp teeth and cold eyes exposed as she does this. The horse continues to flee, but its rider is missing. On the snow floor of the village lies a dead priestess. The snow turning red. The villagers will see where she bled. A bite mark on her neck.

The maiden has gotten her revenge, but her thirst isn't over. Sarah walks in the rising wind and snow, the village now a distance behind her. She turns as she hears the cry of wailing villagers. She pauses to listen. They would never know what she had saved them from. Decades of death and diseases, a pattern of every witch who appear as solutions. She continues her walk with a smile. Now the time to destroy other pattern makers has come. The ones who made her this way. She will find them. kill them.

As Sarah walks, she disappears into the mist and fog. For she was coming, coming for them all.
