Chapter 7 - Group Action

After obtaining the ability, Liam felt somewhat relieved.

However, he still did not let his guard down.

Indeed, the ability to "verify identities" is truly powerful in a game like Werewolf.

As Rolly said, as long as the game revolves around Liam, the human faction can win relatively easily.

The Werewolves are also aware of this.

In other words, Liam has now placed himself in a very dangerous position.

Given the chance, the Werewolves will try every means to eliminate him.

Unless he sticks together with others at all times, giving the Werewolves no opportunity.

But Liam knows full well that this game will not allow such a thing to happen!

"Beep—beep—"

Above the heads of everyone in the room came the urgent sound of an alarm.

Liam raised his head, realizing the alarm seemed to be coming from the room above the ceiling.

"This sounds like it's coming from the second floor."

He spoke up to alert everyone.

Rolly, the otaku, panicked: "What does this alarm mean? Is the werewolf going to start killing people?"

Before Liam could comfort Rolly, soldier Drake immediately spoke in a low, steady voice.

"Stay calm. This isn't the signal for werewolf killings... Remember what the letter said—there's a schedule in this castle listing daily tasks. If we fail to complete them, deadly traps will activate."

After hearing this, Rolly froze momentarily before urgently exclaiming: "Doesn't that still mean we'll die?! Where's the schedule?"

Liam pointed at the nearby wall—right beside the entrance on the same wall where the bloody text had appeared earlier, a visible schedule was posted.

Rolly hurriedly rushed to the schedule, with the others quickly gathering around it.

The schedule was densely packed with text.

"First Day To-Do Items:"

"Repair the generator, located in the Second Floor Engineering Room. Estimated completion time: 10 minutes. Countdown: 15 minutes 49 seconds..."

"Refuel equipment, located in the Third Floor Equipment Room. Estimated completion time: 3 minutes. Countdown: 17 minutes 22 seconds..."

"Clean the premises, located in the First Floor Library. Estimated completion time: 15 minutes. Countdown: 21 minutes 06 seconds..."

"..."

Each line of tasks was listed.

There were already over a dozen tasks with countdowns under three hours alone.

Every task entry included required locations and dynamically updating countdown timers.

Though no one knew what penalties awaited failed tasks or what mechanisms might activate...

None dared gamble with their lives!

"This many tasks?! What nonsense! I never even worked a real job outside, and now I'm clocking in for this d*mn game?!"

Jack couldn't suppress his muttered curses.

His outburst echoed the unspoken sentiments of everyone present.

Liam understood the situation with particular clarity.

There are simply too many tasks, and the locations are extremely scattered!

"If we stick together, we won't be able to finish them all."

The fastest way to clear these tasks quickly is to split into groups and work separately.

This is probably the game's way of preventing the human faction from sticking together all the time!

After tallying the existing tasks, Liam quickly did some mental calculations.

"If we split into two groups, one with three people and one with four, and plan the routes, we might barely manage to complete them..."

Liam silently pondered how to complete these tasks with the minimum number of groups.

But before he could finalize the routes, Jack spoke up first.

"I think we should split up and do the tasks immediately. I'll take charge of fixing the generator!"

As he spoke, he made a move to leave.

The others present didn't seem to object.

Liam frowned slightly and stopped him: "Wait, you can't just leave like this."

Jack turned to look at Liam, speaking fiercely: "What do you mean, kid? Don't you see the countdown keeps decreasing?—Are you trying to get us all killed?!"

"Don't think being some 'Detective' makes you special!"

Facing Jack's aggressive attitude, Liam calmly replied: "Do you want to act alone?—Aren't you afraid of being killed by the werewolf if you separate?"

"Though these tasks are urgent, if all seven of us act separately, we're just giving the werewolf opportunities! Even if we split up, we must form groups!"

After Liam finished speaking, Rolly quickly nodded in agreement: "Exactly! Acting solo is the biggest taboo in werewolf games!"

Jack froze, still preparing to retort.

But Drake spoke gravely: "I also agree with grouping. With seven people, let's pair up in teams of two!"

Liam glanced at Drake, about to say something.

But...

Drake spoke again: "I know what you're all worried about. If a human and a werewolf are paired together during this two-person mission, wouldn't that human be in great danger?"

"But don't forget—if anyone truly meets with misfortune, their partner will immediately become the prime suspect."

"From this perspective, teaming up ensures mutual safety."

Without allowing any rebuttals, Drake pressed on: "Time is limited. We'll proceed with the two-person group plan immediately."

Emmy hesitated, voicing concern: "But there are seven of us. Wouldn't the last group..."

With seven players total, pairing into two-person groups would create three teams and leave one lone individual.

Drake cut her off decisively: "I'll act alone—I'm fully confident in my abilities. Even against an armed werewolf, I can hold my ground!"

Rolly listened, thoughtfully stroking his chin: "I agree. Darke's capabilities can shoulder the responsibilities of an independent role!"

Drake's proposal appeared to have gained approval from everyone present.

Liam did not voice opposition either.

Yet he felt even more puzzled...

Drake's argument sounded reasonable: In reality, many werewolf-like games often adopt paired-group strategies where partners monitor each other.

This grouping method accelerates gameplay and helps confirm participants' roles faster.

But...

The smaller the group size, the greater the risks humans must bear.

At its core, this still involves risking human lives to deduce each person's identity.

Though they were participating in a "death game," this wasn't truly a game!

Rather than "winning the game" or "securing faction victory," shouldn't everyone's primary concern be...

Survival?

Yet why did no one object?

Liam's mind was in turmoil, but the urgency from the countdown on the schedule left him no peace to continue pondering.

Meanwhile, a vague "sense of unease" made him feel it best not to voice this question outright for now.

At that moment, someone tugged at his sleeve.

Liam turned to see Emmy biting her lip, standing beside him.

"Detective, I want to team up with you. Is that okay?"
