Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: The Onion-Pancake Couple

When there is a book, the story is long; without a book, it is short. Before Mr. Roland went to District 25 to lend a hand, all Ye Lan could do was live peacefully in Luna's house, playing a father-daughter game with the cute little albino girl.

As the days passed, the time for him to make a choice drew ever closer. To save the Onion-Pancake Couple and throw the subsequent plot into chaos, or to ignore the death of Angelica and her unborn child, letting the future lead to the story of Library of Ruina.

To be honest, Ye Lan had been thinking about this for a long time. The last time he pondered it, he had the excuse of going out to buy groceries. But not today.

Nemo from the Cane Office had already informed him that the Hana Association had dispatched personnel to District 25. From this day forward, any day could be the day the Pianist incident occurred.

Unfortunately, L Corp's Nest was still in chaos. Although Ye Lan had tried to contact Angela in the Nest over the past few days, the impact of L Wing's fall had reached its peak. The chaos in the Nest was so great that all the Fixers he had commissioned had failed.

As of today, the last method of contact he could hope for was the Library invitation that Angela would cast upon the City.

"Luna!"

Ye Lan called out towards the little girl's bedroom. Not long after, little Luna came running out of the room.

She hopped and skipped to the chair next to Ye Lan and leaned on the table. "Are we going out?"

"Sort of. From today on, you have to stay by my side at all times."

Ye Lan handed her breakfast to little Luna and explained, "Big brother received some intel. District 9 might be in big trouble soon."

"I understand," she nodded and began to eat the breakfast Ye Lan had made for her.

Little Luna didn't ask any more questions. The man she had lived with for nearly ten days knew many things. If he said District 9 was going to be in danger, he was probably right.

Instead of dwelling on questions that wouldn't change anything, it was better to just listen to him. After all, this man was a good person. He would definitely protect her.

Thinking silently, little Luna cut into the fried egg on her plate. Her egg was sunny-side up, about seventy percent cooked, and sprinkled with sea salt and black pepper for seasoning.

One cut into the yolk, and the viscous liquid flowed out, dripping onto the bacon underneath.

Ye Lan had cut the bacon into three slices, each about fifteen centimeters long and half a centimeter thick. He had tasted the bacon beforehand; because it was relatively salty, he had simply pan-fried it on both sides in olive oil until crispy before plating it.

As for whether it was delicious, watching little Luna tear into the bacon dipped in the runny egg yolk, Ye Lan knew his breakfast was definitely not bad.

When Luna was almost finished, he gave the little girl a glass of warm, sweet milk and also made himself a cup of coffee.

Speaking of which, the most expensive item in their breakfast today wasn't his coffee, but the honey added to Luna's milk. Perhaps because the City's environment lacked the conditions for beekeeping, the price of this bottle of honey was as much as a tenth of what he had paid to hire the Cane Office.

And the Cane Office, having handled eleven Urban Star-level incidents, was a high-end firm. The fee to hire them was a staggering amount of An.

As for how high the Urban Star rating was, we can take it literally. Incidents or people who reached this level were as well-known as the stars hanging high in the sky.

The only rating higher than this was Impuritas. At the Impuritas level, whether it was a person, an organization, or a situation, it had the power to change the status quo of the City.

But all this was just to illustrate the price of honey in the City. About half an hour later, Ye Lan and Luna's breakfast time was over.

Today, Ye Lan was taking Luna to a nearby hospital.

Although the Street of Music was the safest of the Backstreets, the hospitals here still couldn't cure Luna's albinism. The most he could do for now was to get her some medicine to reduce the effects of ultraviolet light on the little girl.

Even though they were going to the hospital, Luna still changed into her favorite set of clothes that Ye Lan had bought for her. Taking the beautiful parasol he had carefully prepared for her, little Luna, dressed up like a young lady, walked out of her house.

Following behind Luna, Ye Lan today wore a proper black suit, with a matching black vest underneath and the most common and simple white shirt.

A burgundy tie was neatly knotted around his neck, as impeccable as his leather shoes.

The hospital was in the opposite direction of the notary district, a three-street walk from their home. The two walked into the hospital amidst a continuous stream of music and headed for their scheduled appointment.

The clinic was on the fifth floor. Unwilling to climb the stairs, the two naturally chose to wait for the elevator. The hospital's elevator seemed to be quite busy today. They waited downstairs for about five minutes, but the elevator remained on the third floor. After another five minutes, it finally started to move, slowly descending to the first floor.

The elevator doors opened, and what greeted Ye Lan and Luna's eyes was a floor full of thugs. Judging by the purple glowing tattoos on their bodies, they were probably from the Thumb.

In the middle of these groaning thugs stood a couple. The husband was a man with short black hair, wearing a black suit almost identical to Ye Lan's. The wife was a pregnant woman with long, grayish-white hair.

Whether it was luck or fate, standing before Ye Lan and Luna were the protagonist of Library of Ruina, Roland, and his wife, Angelica.

Because of their love for the signature onion pancakes from a restaurant in District 25, the couple was nicknamed the "Onion-Pancake Couple" by players. But what players remembered more vividly was the plot where Angelica died during the Pianist incident while pregnant.

To be honest, there were many inconsistencies in this plotline. As a Color Fixer, one of the pinnacles of individual combat strength in the City, Angelica, also known as the Black Silence, shouldn't have died so easily to the WAW-class Distortion, the Pianist, even if she was pregnant.

Therefore, some players suspected another Color Fixer, the Violet Tear—Iori.
