'No!' Alessia nearly screamed out loud. She could overhear the sudden commotion at the party's venue and her head rang.
"Let's go!" She heard Kiera yell at the top of her voice as she was helped to her feet with the rifle in her hand. "We need to leave this place before they get to us!"
Kiera then glanced at the pale Alessia by her side. "She didn't die." She whispered under her breath.
Alessia turned toward her sharply. "What..."
Was that Kiera's plan the whole time?
Walter quickly ran over to take the rifle from Alessia's grasp. He smirked as if mocking her. "Pretty sure you did a really good job."
Alessia's brows furrowed, but she was relatively stable now. She bit the inside of her bottom lip as beads of sweat ran down her back. "Shut up."
"Seriously, Walter! Now is not the time!" Kiera announced as she rushed down the stairs with the both of them just right behind her.
"...Can we still make our way back to the party?" Alessia asked as they ran, her colour slowly returning back to normal.
"Of course not, dumb*ss!" Walter spat. "The police are coming from that direction, how exactly do you want us to go back?!"
Alessia glared at him like she wanted to retort but decided against it. She let out a breath to calm herself. "But Vince and Coyle are back there."
"You know both of them." Kiera said breathlessly as they ran past the entrance and into an empty, dark street. "They'll make it out however they can, we just need to catch up with them."
She started to scan their surroundings frantically as they ran. "Look around, find something we can use!"
Alessia's head went side to side for a moment before she suddenly pointed and yelled, "There!"
Just a few meters away from them, a middle aged man was just about to board a rickety, old car. What he was doing on this empty, abandoned street by this time of night was a mystery to all of them.
The middle aged man jumped fearfully when he noticed three masked people running toward him. He took a few cautious steps back, trembling.
"Thei–thieves!" He cried. "Wha–what do you want?! Lea–leave or I'll call–"
"Shut up!" Kiera ordered before she slammed her elbow into the bridge of his nose, knocking him unconscious before he could blink.
She then snatched his keys from the ground and got into the driver's seat of the car, waiting a few seconds for everyone else to get in before she smirked and said, "We're quite lucky tonight, aren't we? We managed to find an escape before–"
Before she could finish, a group of uniformed men appeared from the darkness, pointing annoyingly bright flashlights and guns in their direction.
Alessia who sat behind, gripped the back of the passengers seat. "Looks like you spoke too soon–"
"Step on it already!" Walter yelled in panic and Kiera didn't hesitate.
She immediately started the engine and stepped on the pedal, driving toward the group of policemen who already had their guns pointed at them.
The car sped toward policemen without warning, and it seemed like it was going to run them over, but they all quickly jumped out of the way in time. Watching in shock as the car drove off.
Kiera laughed wildly as she turned the steering wheel. "What a bunch of cowards!"
Alessia let out a small huff. "We're not out of it yet. We still have to meet with Vince and Coyle."
Just then, the Walkie talkie on Kiera's hip crackled to life once again. "Kiera," Vince's voice sounded. "Are you there?"
"Copy." Kiera responded.
"Good, it means you've escaped." Vince said with relief that could practically be heard through the walkie talkie. "Take the others, go to the meeting point, change your clothes and come to the gala. We're not done yet."
Kiera frowned. "We have another mission?"
"...Yes." Vince answered, honestly. "But I can't say anything until you arrive."
"...Alright. We will be there in a few minutes." Kiera answered before the walkie talkie went dead.
Alessia's heart pounded in her chest and her fist clenched. "Where do we ditch this car?"
"I don't know..." Kiera responded thoughtfully. "We will have to roam for a while and ditch it somewhere completely unrelated to where we are going."
....
"Were you able to get a hold of them?" Dervan asked, a phone held up to his left ear.
"...No, Sir…" A dejected male voice sounded from the other end. "They escaped before we could do anything..."
Dervan's brows furrowed slightly. "I see…" He said. "Well, it just proves that the information wasn't false then..."
'How strange...'
"Yes… is there anything else you would like us to do, Sir?" The policeman asked.
"...No, there's nothing else." Dervan answered curtly. "You may take the rest of your men and leave. The security at the party will be more than enough."
"...Of course, Sir." The policeman answered in a disappointed tone. "Until next–"
Before he could finish, Dervan hung up.
"Is the police force just full of cowards now?! Those murderers shouldn't have been so difficult to catch!" A tall man standing right beside Dervan spat with clenched fists.
He had a head full of rusty brown hair packed tight in a bun and his eyes were stormy grey, filled with anger.
"It was a hurriedly gathered force, Jan." Dervan said without so much as a shift in expression. "This was bound to happen."
"Tsk!" Jan clicked his tongue.
"Looks like I was quite lucky to be alive then." A shaky female voice sounded somewhere from behind them and they both turned their heads to face her.
She was a beautiful lady with light brown, wavy locks and bright hazel eyes.
But at the moment, she looked terrible. Her skin was sickly pale and cold sweat dripped down her forehead occasionally, only to be wiped away with a handkerchief by a worried looking woman who sat beside her.
A thick, white bandage was wrapped around the top of her right arm and spots of blood were visible from the outside but other than that, she looked fine.
She let out a shaky breath. "Thank you, Dervan. You saved my life."
"Evie…" Jan called softly.
Dervan turned his head away. "I just did what I wanted to."
"Hah… You're as stiff as ever." Evie shook her head slowly before she sighed. "I believe I have had enough of partying for one night. I would like to go home now." She announced. "Vanessa?"
"Of course, Miss!" The lady beside her quickly stood up when she heard her name. "It is most certainly no more suitable for you to remain here!"
Evie nodded and let Vanessa help her up as they slowly walked towards the door.
"I'm heavily indebted to you, Dervan. I'll surely repay this debt." She added before she left the room, leaving the door to close slowly after her.
When Evie walked outside, people turned their heads her way and whispered to one another but she held her head high and walked to her car, looking unfazed.
'I pity the group of people who did this...' She thought. 'Father will surely find them.'
