Chapter 1 - Prologue

That day came without any warning.

It was a lazy, warm weekend afternoon. I think I had something to do at school. Yes, I definitely left the chessboard in the science lab.

It was annoying, but not too far, and my body was aching from staying at home.

I took the familiar route every day. So as I was walking absentmindedly, I suddenly felt a sense of unease that I couldn't explain in words but couldn't ignore.

Why, you know? Like when you're on a bus and you've just passed your destination because you're so absorbed in your phone, or when you realize you've written down a test question too late.

I raised my head involuntarily because of that eerie and strange feeling.

Where my gaze landed was the blue sky, and strangely enough, huge, yet soft rings of light were slowly orbiting.

They didn't suddenly appear out of nowhere. My vision had only arrived late, but those thin clusters of light had naturally been standing tall in the sky since some time ago.

I must have made an idiotic face, half surprised and half puzzled. I'm sure I've seen those clear rings somewhere.

When the chain of thoughts that followed in an instant reached a certain Korean-made otaku mobile game,

Whoa!

Next to me, where I had stopped, a fountain as tall as me was vigorously spraying water.

A rainbow appeared between the crashing bubbles, and beyond that, a neat gravel road continued.

Along the road, brick and marble buildings stretched straight up into the sky.

The puddles of water that had gathered here and there, reflecting the sunlight, shone like mirrors.

Children in pure white uniforms walked in groups of three or four through the beautiful yet unfamiliar streets.

Each of the students who were passing by chattered away, their unique halos sparkled above their heads.

As I stared blankly at the sight, I suddenly heard the cool sound of water. It was the sound coming from under my feet.

Did I step on a puddle? But it was strange. That figure reflected on the distorted surface of the water wasn't me.

My heart pounded like crazy.

I swallowed hard. I lowered my head and looked at my figure drawn on the calm water.

"Ha, haha..."

A small girl was there.

Pure white skin that matched her pure white dress. Voluminous pink hair flowed down her thin, clear shoulders.

Beyond the clear eyes, the sky and clouds were faintly reflected, and above my head, a halo like deep space was leisurely orbiting.

"That's ridiculous..." I was definitely having a bad dream, and I would wake up if I blinked once.

I wanted to deny it, but the wings embroidered with constellations like the night sky and the refreshing voice coming from my throat were too clear.

That day, fate, which had come without warning, playfully declared to me.

From today, you have become Misono Mika.
