THE WALKING DEAD ALTERNATIVE

Chapter 9: CLEMENTINE
A few months had passed since Omid died and Christa lost her baby while giving birth. It was painful—way too painful for anyone to handle.
Clementine and Christa caught a raccoon for dinner, but it was raining and the fire kept going out. Christa grew frustrated and started to complain.
Clementine:
"When will it be ready to eat?"
Christa:
"I don't know, okay... the fire keeps going out."
Clementine:
"I'm really hungry."
Christa:
"Me too! But what can I do? If you wanna eat, cook it yourself—I'm done trying."
Clementine:
"I miss Lee."
Christa:
"Then go be with him."
Clementine:
"Christa, do you hate me?"
Christa:
"I'm going to look for more firewood. Just stay here."
Christa walked into the forest. Clementine slowly made her way to a log and picked up her bag. She opened it and took out a picture of Lee and a lighter. She closed the bag and set it down beside her.
She then walked over to the fire and tried lighting it again. She picked up a piece of firewood, lit it with the lighter, and soon the flames began to rise.
Suddenly, she heard voices—Christa's and some unknown men.
Clementine crept toward the sound and hid behind a tree. Christa turned her head slightly and noticed her. Four armed men were pointing weapons at Christa.
Unknown Man:
"Who else is here with you?"
Christa:
"It's just me. Alone."
Unknown Man:
"Stop with the bullshit."
Christa:
"I'm telling you the truth."
One of the men turned and spotted Clementine.
Christa:
"Run, Clementine!!"
Clementine bolted into the woods, one of the men chasing after her.

MEANWHILE
Lee:
"How do you feel, Klaus?"
Klaus:
"I feel good."
Lee:
"Good... Thanks to you, we had this submarine to escape in."
Klaus:
"Sure... So where are we going, Lee?"
Lee:
"Washington."
Klaus:
"Like the White House?"
Lee:
"Yes... When I was teaching, I went there once."
Klaus:
"So, you wanna be the president?"
Lee:
"N... No."
Klaus:
"President Lee. That would make me vice president."
Lee:
"Sure. Anything."
Klaus:
"Not to bother you... but who's Clementine? You kind of mention her in your sleep a lot."
Lee:
"She's... someone. Let's not talk about her."
Klaus:
"That's okay with me."
Alice walked over to them.
Alice:
"What are you two talking about?"
Klaus:
"We were talking about how I'm not a walker."
Alice:
"Lee's blood can probably save people. The thing is... Lee's blood type changed to something that doesn't exist."
Lee:
"What? And you're telling me this now?"
Alice:
"I'm calling it Ghost DNA—or Ghost Genes."
Klaus:
"You truly are a genius, sister."
Lee:
"Okay... Let's discuss this later."

BACK TO CLEMENTINE
After escaping the men, Clementine woke up at the edge of a riverbank. She slowly got up and walked into the woods—dripping wet, hungry, and scared. Still, she held her composure.
She heard a dog barking and cautiously followed the sound. The dog led her to an abandoned campsite.
Clementine:
"Looks like everyone's dead... I'm really hungry. I should look for something to eat."
She searched the site but found nothing. Then she spotted a walker tied to a tree and killed it with a knife she found nearby.
After that, she found a garbage bin and rummaged through it. Inside was a can of baked beans.
She sat on a log, opened it, and smiled.
Clementine:
"Thank God..."
As she ate, the dog stared at her. She offered him some food—but suddenly, it attacked.
The dog bit her arm, and she screamed. In desperation, she kicked it off. The dog whimpered and fell onto a sharp piece of debris, impaling itself. Clementine leaned in and ended its suffering by stabbing it in the neck.
She stumbled back into the woods. The pain from her arm was too much—she passed out.
Minutes later, she opened her eyes. Walkers were approaching.
She forced herself to get up and kept walking, but they were gaining on her. One grabbed her and tried to bite her—she struggled but was too weak.
Suddenly, a shot rang out. The walker fell, and a man scooped Clementine into his arms and ran.
Unknown Man:
"Aye, are you okay? I'm Luke."
Clementine:
"I'm... Clementine..."
Luke:
"Okay, Clementine. You'll be safe now."
Clementine:
"...Thank you."
Clementine passed out from the pain.
