I hummed as I opened my eyes. Rose laid beside me, fast asleep. We were back home now.
I looked to my left and gazed out at the lake waters licking the sandy beach. The sun had yet to rise. Today, I didn't wasn't scheduled to work, meaning I could spend more time with my wife and baby.
Carefully, I eased myself out of bed, mindful not to disturb Rose. I tiptoed over to our daughter.
Anis was snug in her crib, encircled by her six plushies. Her collection had doubled from her original three. Who knew how many she would have by her first birthday.
As I leaned closer, I watched Anis's tiny chest rise and fall with each peaceful breath. Her little fingers curled around the edge of her plush bunny, and I felt my heart swell at the sight. This little girl was everything to me, a perfect blend of Rose and me, and I couldn't imagine life without her.
