I could see him talking but couldn't comprehend what he was saying. My brain kept going back to Calibria, I wondered of her fate after she'd gone back. I wondered what had happened during the time after my original body's death. So many holes lay unfilled in me, so many of my memories were missing from my previous life.
Riot then shook me as if I was sleep-walking, I took a look at him for all his grey hair, the tufts of gray fur still sticking around here and there, his black pupils and his protruding claws, this guy was but a teenager in terms of wolf years. Wolves had a solid lifeline of an average of 150 years though many died younger on the battlefield. He was still wary of me but his eyes were just like mine, searching for answers.
I spoke "you're a Wolborg?" to which he simply nodded as he settled back onto his seat. He asked me "how are you related to Mertiana?". I had to think up of something fast, "I read of it in a book, the descriptions of a vampire with maroon hair and a pair of blue earrings made from the tears of their ancestor Dionesium. The tale of the runaway vampire and the common man of humanity. I was reminded of Calibria, the character that was expressed in the book, and only a mention of her daughter's name was done in it. Never would I have expected for a simple fairy tale to have real life references." "What about calling Calibria your friend then? Why'd you lie about that?" asked Wolborg. He looked puzzled, and I didn't know why which in turn made me anxious. "In all fair honesty, the book also had a necklace inside it which is the one I'm wearing. It gave me a revelation or much rather a detailed explanation of everything that had happened." Good thing Mertiana wasn't here or I would've been easily found out. The puzzled look wasn't erased of his face even now. Suddenly, I Heard a loud boom outside.
Outside, it was suddenly all dark. The wild sun that had been scorching the lands had take a complete 180 to complete darkness. Something was lurking, every single one of the wolves and the vampires retreated inside. Riot didn't come out either, the fierce look he was giving and his entire courage I presumed had turned to liquid. Something was wrong, something was instilling fear in these guys.
Vampires aren't beings who'd cower in fear and would rather die than hide and werewolves are also kinda similar. Nothing seemed to happen for a few minutes. It was absolute silence but as the saying goes 'the calm before the storm'. A huge whirlwind brewed up and instantly turned into a bunch of tornadoes. The houses didn't get uprooted and stood their ground. I would've been sucked in if not for Riot pulling me in. He then went and sat at a corner. Each of the tornadoes had a specific element imbued in it like a tsunami type, a fire storm, a wind that blew the land upside down and one that upset even the most strongly rooted trees.
I've never read of anything like this, random tornadoes and natural disasters, accompanied by the elements. I could only think of three things, either this town is located at a mana hotspot which is highly unlikely, there's a curse active on these lands or its people, or it's the doing of spirits and I'm led to believe it's a curse set by spirits. Spirits in general were certainly peaceful creatures and unless they were ordered by a master or were under someone's control, they didn't engage in anything violent but this is beyond what I've ever seen before. This wasn't just one or two spirits, these were hundreds, maybe thousands of spirits colliding and combining to create these disasters.
I could feel the flux of these colliding waves using envelope energy but it was but a fraction of what was actually happening. I took a step out of the house and fired a ball of envelope energy into the wild and recalled it. The envelope energy managed to capture the energy of the being causing all this ruckus. Then slowly, the storm subsided and what was left was nothing but the homes, somehow outside the range of these disasters lay the trees as if nothing ever happened.
Riot stepped out in a daze, then shook his head in a disappointed tone. I asked "What just happened, why did all those spirits even gather together?" His face was puzzled just like mine, he had no answers just like me. It was getting late; the sun was setting so Riot guided me to one of the buildings and asked me to stay there. His face still showed that weird expression but I didn't dig in any further. I took a seat at the edge of the bed and took out the envelope energy I'd used to capture the infiltrators energy.
I didn't dare to release the energy inside otherwise this house would explode from the inside. I carefully inserted a needle made form the emerald envelope energy into the sphere from my finger. And then used it to stir the energy. Nothing happened, but something felt unusual. Then from the back of my head, a memory about a book I read a long time ago in my previous life arose. A book about the spirit king and the spirit energy.
The spirit energy was a pretty common type of energy, though there are different types of energy. The spirit king specifically had the power to control all kinds of spirit energies and the person who can manage to be chosen by the spirit king as a suitable contractor would have his original energy erased and instead be filled with spirit energy. Its an extremely painful process from the start of erasure to different types of energy forms invading the body to obtain a suitable vessel.
But why is the energy of the spirit king here and tormenting these werewolves and vampires, what did the ancients do? So many questions and so little time before I need to reach Bohsdik and the academy of Adam. I will need to finish up this case and quickly head out while also ensuring the safety of my daughter. My ex-daughter? I don't know anymore.
