Chapter 144 - Chapter 143 The Awakening.

Karna looked at the light blue pond that gave off a blue hue. He put his arm forward and invoked a spell he had learned from Grandine to check for the soul he was trying to find.

His arm lit up with a pale green flame that seemed both mysterious and filled with vibrant life.

"Damn, I thought it'd be faint, but the thing's life energy is off the charts. According to Grandine, it should have been smaller than a candle about to go out. But it feels like if I let it go, it might be big enough to cover me entirely," Karna muttered to himself as he reached into his bag and brought out a Lacrima. But unlike other Lacrima filled with magic, this one seemed to be devoid of any magical presence.

"I hope this works," Karna muttered as he dropped the Lacrima into the pond and watched it slowly make its way toward the depths.

For a moment, nothing happened as Karna waited for his plan to take effect.

'Did I do something wrong? Was there something I missed when I got the information to create a Lacrima?'

As Karna began to worry that his plan had failed, the entire pond began to glow with a fluorescent blue color, and a bright white light slowly floated upward.

As the object slowly ascended, it broke through the surface of the water and hovered in the air above the pond brimming with ice cold energy. Tendrils of pure, cold bluish energy still connected it to the water. Karna activated his Sharingan and watched as the essence of soul and magic within the water flow through the tendrils and slowly compressed itself into the Lacrima.

He could feel the temperature in the room plummet to dangerously low levels—too low for a human to survive. He immediately activated his armor, which covered him completely. Then he activated the Thunder Dragon's essence within it, causing electric currents to flow in a loop throughout the armor, increasing its temperature so he could survive the cold that was nearing absolute zero.

As he watched the energy build within the Lacrima, the temperature continued to fall. Karna considered using his Death Demon Slayer mode, as it could survive such extreme cold due to its inherent properties of being lifeless. He had felt no temperature at all when he had used it before, so he had a theory that he will be able to survive cold temperatures easily when he is in that mode.

But there was no need. As the last remnants of energy condensed into the Lacrima, it suddenly emitted a bright blue glow and fell down, floating atop the now dark and colourless water—the cave's illumination gone, drained by the Lacrima's creation that absorbed every sliver of energy that was present in the waters.

Karna removed his armor as the cave's temperature returned to a stable level. He immediately jumped into the pond and walked toward the bright blue sphere floating at the center. As he picked it up, he felt an extreme cold in his hands from its surface. He quickly used magic to lift it slightly so it wouldn't touch his hand directly and cause harm.

Looking into the Lacrima, he realized it was entirely different from the one he'd seen with Laxus before it was implanted into his body.

Laxus's Lacrima had chaotic lightning inside volatile and highly spirited. But the one Karna now held seemed almost lifeless in comparison. As he gazed deeper, he felt a stillness akin to what he experiences when activating his Death Form. But unlike his Death Form, which emits a kind of lifeless stillness, this Lacrima radiated an absolute, complete stillness.

Karna suspected that the center of the Lacrima might be at absolute zero—the coldest temperature possible in the physical world. He couldn't imagine how powerful Acnologia must have been to defeat both this dragon and Raijin at the same time.

But there was a chance the dragon hadn't trained enough to reach that level of power or had simply been too young to defeat Acnologia.

"Don't worry, kid. This time we'll make sure we win," Karna muttered as he activated the modified Milky Way spell to connect the Lacrima to the other dragon souls across the continent.

The spell could be activated from anywhere, as long as there were no interference barriers. The only limiting factor was the amount of magic required to connect with the soul realms of the other dragons from the location from which it was cast, this actually depended on the distance between them.

Connecting to the personal soul realms of dragons on a different continent would have been impossible for most wizards with average reserves.

But for a monster like Karna who had spent more than a decade pushing his magical capacity to its limit by doing every exercise pertaining to magic level increase constantly, along with the minor boosts he'd received from the system over the years, it would drain at most 10% of his total ethernano, while not even counting his second origin, which he planned to release later once his primary ethernano core had grown large enough that typical improvements would no longer increase its capacity. The second origin release would, in essence, double his ethernano reserves.

For now, Karna connected with the Lacrima in his hand, confirming that it didn't just contain the power of the Frostborn Dragon of Cold—but also its soul.

Karna had hoped to speak with it properly, but seeing the quality of the energy released by the Lacrima, he suspected it would be a bad idea. Even if the dragon had retained its sanity, the chances of holding a conversation were low, since they had never met—unlike Raijin, who had seen him through Laxus's eyes for years.

And if the dragon had lost consciousness or gone mad, it would be even worse. The only one capable of using the exiting function of the soul realm was Grandine. And facing the Ice Dragon's wrath alone just to find out whether he'd survive wasn't an experiment Karna was willing to run on himself.
