Chapter 16 - CH. 16 - These Students

"What is he talking about?.. There are only 8 Types anybody can be. And it's not like you can mix or swap them or anything."

Moshiro says quietly. Nobody smirks a little as he continues.

"Correct. Each and every Soul can only possess one Type power, if any at all. There is no gaining, switching or developing new powers, let alone a whole different Type. Now, who can name each Type?"

He asks while stepping towards the other side of the room. Cole raises his hand and waits to be called.

"Yes, you, the bald one."

Nobody says while pointing at him. Cole is mildly shocked by the comment and looks a little annoyed.

"I am not bald... Anyway, the 8 Types are Myth, Elemental, Flow, Death, Energy, Forge, Meta, and Body." Cole says confidently.

"Good job! You get a cookie."

Nobody says playfully. Cole looks confused but appreciative the best he can. Teach then steps forward.

"The Types all together compose different parts of our world-"

"Universe."

Teach speaks then is "corrected" by Professor Nobody. Nobody doesn't bother looking at Teach as he glares over his shoulder at him before quickly moving on.

"Yes, in theory, the entire Universe is composed of these powers. Each being largely different from the other yet some even possessing eerily similar abilities. As vital as these powers might be, they are not exactly commonplace in the general populous."

Teach says. Some students are a little surprised by this statement.

"I never really paid attention to how many people around me had powers growing up."

Octavia says, looking at Ivailia, who just shrugs with an agreeing look.

"I guess that explains why we don't see everyone walking around with powers here. If it's rare then even a place like this wouldn't be filled with them exclusively."

Angie points out. Nazuna smiles and steps forward.

"Yes, though we train control and discipline here, so it is possible you just can't tell who has powers and who doesn't. I will be responsible for developing your Souls and abilities, should you have any, but we can leave that for a later day."

She says with soft, cute smile. Nobody nods and speaks up.

"Now this next part is especially important to those of you who don't have a Type power. Base Reception."

Nobody says. Some of their eyes, even the ones with powers, light up, being introduced to this new idea. Moshiro specifically pays closer attention with her eyes wide and filled with inspiration. Teach hears Nobody's words and interrupts again.

"Okay, wait a moment. That might be a little too much for them all at once. Maybe we'll save the lesson for after the tournament."

"Wait."

Moshiro stands up. Teach looks at her surprised as Moshiro stares at him with desperation in her eyes.

"Please, Teach."

She says softly. Teach looks at her for a moment, some of the others smirking a bit. Teach sighs before backing off a little.

"Fine. But only a light lesson. I don't want to overwhelm you all and we still have Evan Tournament things to discuss."

He says, smiling a little. Moshiro sits down, ever so slightly embarrassed by her sudden outburst. Teach clears his throat before starting the lesson.

"Base Reception is something inside each and every one of you. It evens the playing field for those who may be weaker. So if you're ever lost or unsure what to train, train BR because it may just save your life one day."

He says with a smile at Moshiro who sits up, inspired by his words.

"Now, let's move on to the Evaluation Tournament."

Teach says, looking at the class. They all get shocked looks.

'That's it??'

The entire class thinks in shock. Professor Nobody then steps up and speaks.

"It's time to explain what it's all about." He says with a smirk. "Years ago, along with Teach, the old windbag, I helped create the idea of the Eval Tournament."

Nobody says as Teach gets a cartoonishly angry look on his face. Nobody then steps towards his podium.

"So I hope you understand why I'm so enthusiastic about it. Creating a more thorough system to figuring out your classifications was pivotal in creating a better system of powerful people."

Nobody says happily while leaning against the podium with Teach on his right and Nazuna on his left. He then gives the class a wicked smile underneath his mask.

"That's why you're gonna be put through Hell."

He says viciously. Some of the class looks concerned while others get excited. Wolf specifically begins to pay a little more attention, peaked by the challenge. Nazuna and Teach both smile as they stand before the class.

"I hope you're ready."

With the lesson eventually over, the new first year class of the ASA is now filled with 18 students. Law Jay, Angie Disc, Jeni Marchent, Galen Viscor, and Octavia Brumana, five students who were handpicked by scouts of the ASA for extraordinary power and promise.

Cole Jigoku, Alston Lexare, Harley Hadachi, Ivailia Nora, and Rye Reeds, five students who were offered and surpassed tests given to them as applications to the ASA, delivering outstanding scores and skills.

Dante Oort and Yoko Tatsuo, two students who were let into the ASA on special admission for intriguing backgrounds and abilities.

And finally, Killian Kamui, Saika Martinez, Moshiro Ken, Tadashi Gin, Phoenix Geist and Wolf Anderson, six students specifically selected by Southpaw and Teach for their incredible display of heroism and determination.

These students make up the next generation of heroes coming from the Academy of Superior Abilities and will have to fight and work harder than ever before to take their place amongst the Academy's finest. As the students leave the class, Teach watches them and waves them off.

"I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. That's when the Eval Tournament begins so make sure you show up."

He says as a few of the students wave back with smiles on their faces. Once the students have all left, only one stays behind for a moment. Moshiro steps next to Teach with a blank look on her face, staring at her classmates leaving. Teach notices her as she begins to speak.

"Teach. When we entered the academy, they ran all the normal tests. They're extremely thorough. Did they… find anything?.." She asks softly, not looking up at him. Teach looks at her softly, knowing the truth. He inhales a bit before answering her question.

"No. It seems you just weren't born with a Type."

He says, not trying to dance around the fact. Moshiro presses her lips together tightly as her eyes get glossy. She nods slightly a few times.

"Right… right…" She says, almost whispering at this point. Teach gives a soft look as he turns and crouches in front of her.

"Hey, don't worry about it." He says comforting her. She begins to cry a bit as tears roll down her cheeks. She lowers her head trying to hide behind her bangs as she rubs her eyes with her hands. "There are plenty of heroes out there who don't have Types either." Teach says gently.

"I know… I just… I don't think I can be as strong as them… I… just want to be a good hero…" She whimpers between sniffles and tears. Teach sighs and gently grabs her wrists, pulling them towards him to try and get her not to hide.

"Ay, Moshi. You're not going to be a good hero. You're going to be great." He says while pulling her in for a hug as she sobs into his shoulder for a moment. "You're my prized pupil. There won't be anything you can't do once I'm done with you." He says with a soft smile. They pull back as she nods a bit and stops crying.

"Right." She says. Teach stands back up as he pats her head before lifting her chin with a finger.

"Keep your chin up, kiddo. You've got a long road ahead of you and only greatness to come." He says with a proud smile. She nods again, a soft smile on her face.

"Thanks, sensei."

"Now get going. You've got friends waiting and friends to make."

He slaps her on the back causing her to stumble forward a bit before she catches herself and chuckles a bit. She waves back to him before she catches up to the others. He watches her with a warm smile.

"My daughter…" He says softly.

The class chats excitedly as they walk the halls of their new school, emotions rising all over the place. Some of the students jump with joy and excitement. Others are more composed but the excitement still clear on their faces. Saika giggles with joy as he speaks out loud.

"I still can't believe this! Walking these halls back to our dorms, here at the Academy of Superior Abilities!" He shouts excitedly. Angie looks at him with a smile.

"Guessing you came from a smaller city in a further out District, huh?" She asks. Saika looks at her before smiling.

"Yeah, kinda!" He answers as she smirks a little.

"Yeah, makes sense. I mean, we come from a closer District so these fancy amenities are more common. Ain't that right, Ivailia?"

The girl with the pointy ears next to her nods happily and gives two thumbs up. Killian notices this and quietly asks Galen next to him about it.

"Question. Does she have a disability or something?.." Killian whispers. Galen smirks and shakes his head.

"Nah, I don't think so. She just doesn't speak words. I don't know if she can't as long as I've known her." Galen says. This shifts Killian's attention to him instead.

"Oh? You know each other?" He asks.

"Yeah, Angie, Ivailia and I went to the same school. She wasn't hand picked specifically because of her speaking thing but her skills proved more than enough." Galen says. Killian nods with a smile.

"Good to know." He says.

As they walk, Wolf throws her arms behind her head with a huff.

"I just can't believe even here, Teach is still gonna beat my ass every day." She groans.

"That's really up to you, isn't it?" Tadashi says with a smirk. Wolf opens an eye at him and huffs again.

"Not like I ask him to." She says. Killian and Tadashi look at each other.

"Welllll~" They both sing in unison. Wolf glares at them.

"Oh, shut up."

She growls back. The group laughs at her as they all make their way to the dorms. As they laugh though, the boy from before, the one asking the strange questions, Dante Oort, stares at her with intense eyes. Completely unreadable.

In the dorms, the students all go their own ways, hanging out, doing their own things. Some hangout in the rooms, others check the place out, and most hangout in the main lobby area.

Some of the new students laugh on a large cough in the center of the community space. Out of the laughter, Phoenix speaks up.

"Okay, well, who's your favorite then?" She asks, looking right at Galen.

"I think Callutang is my favorite Director. He's got those crazy fangs and is a master of magic." Galen says. Harley then speaks up a bit.

"What about Axe and Komori? I haven't heard much about them." She says. Moshiro looks a bit disgusted by the thought.

"Ugh, don't even mention those psychopaths. How they got the same rank as Teach baffles me." She says plainly. Despite this, Jenni wiggles excitedly next to her.

"Dude, the Directors are just so cool! The strongest and greatest heroes in the world! Toughest 5th Tiers out there!" She says enthusiastically. Killian leans forward and looks at Phoenix.

"How many were there again? Like 9?" He asks. Phoenix just shrugs in response before Tadashi speaks up.

"10, actually, but I'm more interested in Professor Nobody." He says with a cool smile when Moshiro speaks up again.

"He's not a Director though, remember?" She says as Tadashi nods casually.

"Still, I caught wind he once made a device capable of vibrating bedrock fast enough to pulverize it." Tadashi says with interest in his voice. Then another voice chimes in.

"A Metasonic Resonator. That was the device he created." Cole says plainly. Tadashi looks at him surprised before smirking.

"Indeed. I'm surprised anyone else would know what it was called."

"Of course. I do my research on all my teachers. Especially when they are as intelligent as Professor Nobody." Cole says. Tadashi stares at him with subtly excited eyes.

"Perhaps he'll show us something else in class. Maybe a Temperate Xilon Card." Tadashi says, baiting Cole. Cole has his eyes closed and arms crossed for a moment before looking back at him and smirking.

"Do not get me started."

And just like that, the two of them start geeking out about technology a bit beyond anything the others know about. Phoenix watches them with a confused look and a sweat drop before turning back to the others.

"I love Ms. Nazuna. She's so sweet." Phoenix says softly.

"Again, not a Director."

Moshiro says plainly. Phoenix looks at her pouty a bit and sticks her tongue out at her. As she does this, suddenly, Dante, the boy from before, leans over the backside of the couch and looks at her face closely.

Phoenix is caught off guard by this action as he stares at her with bright bluish green eyes. As he stares, he leans closer to her face, causing her to get embarrassed and blush a little, looking away slightly.

"Uh, can I help you?" She asks awkwardly. Alston steps towards the group and leans on the edge of the couch with Moshiro on it.

"It's that guy who asked that weird question at the entrance ceremony." Alston says.

"I can't tell if he's confident or just crazy." Moshiro says as Dante stares intently before speaking.

"There's something strange about your eyes, no?" He asks plainly. Phoenix looks confused.

"No? They're just blue." Phoenix says back. Dante smirks before leaning back when a loud voice calls his name.

"Dante! It was you! I knew it!"

Wolf shouts as she rushes into the room. She jumps up only for him to catch her in his arms with a giggle and smile too.

"Damnit, and here I was trying so hard to avoid you." He says as Wolf pouts a bit.

"That's just mean."

"Okay, okay, I will do it again."

He jokes, putting her down only for her to punch him on the arm playfully with a big smile on their faces. Phoenix looks surprised again.

"Another friend from daycare?" She asks, curiously. Wolf looks at her with her hands on her hips.

"Oh no, Dante is totally different. We were born in the same hospital!" She says with a big smile.

"My first ever roommate. I swear I remember her crawling into my babybin and trying to hog all the space. Guess hers just wasn't enough."

Dante says causing them to laugh together happily. Phoenix just stares at them, looking even more jealous than before but doesn't say anything else.
