Chapter 32 - Recusants

(Third Person POV)

"What did you say?" Rennala said with a shocked tone, "He did what?!"

She stood in front of a table in her study as a Carian Knight stood before her.

"M'Lady..." He said as he bowed, "Brutalus tamed the Glinstone Dragon to his side...sightings of him riding the drake have been reported."

Rennala scowled, "Curse that man...." She said as she looked down, "What could he possibly gain from this???? I gave him my answer, why hasn't he returned to Leyndell?? Is he really that desperate for me? For my body? That lecherous man!"

She looked at the Knight and waved him away.

"Begone." She said, "I must think."

The Knight bowed and walked out of the room.

Rennala looked up at the portrait of her husband, Radagon, as she bit her fingernails.

"My love....." She muttered quietly, "Is it true? Were you truly Marika disguised....? No. It can't be. I knew Radagon was connected to her, but this? This is ridiculous....but not as Ridiculous as this Tarnished.....this lecherous sack of meat wanting nothing but to bed me...."

She then looked over to her desk, a single unopened letter calling for her.

"Hm...." She said, "Rykard's letter, I haven't read it yet..."

She walked over to her desk, reluctantly picking it up. She had been feeling nothing but stress as of late, not because of the potential conflict between Liurnia and Altus, but the lack of responses she had received from Radahn.

The Redmane General has been awfully quiet after he confirmed to his mother that he lives again. This put Rennala in a bit of an uneasy state. The sudden appearance of the current Elden Lord didn't help her at all; his sudden demand to hand her body over to him and his threats to kill his sons again.

She opened it and read its contents:

"Dear Mother,

It has come to my attention that the one known as Brutalus has journeyed over to Liurna. Possibly to sway you to his bedside, the shameless rat. Worry not, I have sent my men after him. He will be dealt with.

Radahn has yet to respond to my letters, I hope it is not the same with you, dearest of Mothers. I wonder if he is angry with me, for being taken by the Serpent. Speaking of which, I have a massive void inside me ever since I was split from the Blasphemous Serpent, this angers me, Mother. I have to fill it with the Elden Lord's innards, when I rip him piece by piece.

Another thing; Ranni, my beloved Sister, is alive and well. She resides in Carian Manor, you ought to pay her a visit. I hear.....from my little birds, that she's.....well, how to put it, bound to her current form. Whatever fate she wishes to have, it is her decision.

I sit in my throne in Volcano Manor, call upon me when you decide it is time to march towards Leyndell and raze it to the ground.

Love,

Rykard."

Rennala sighed, "Oh dear..." She said setting the letter down, "Radahn hasn't spoken to Rykard either....and Ranni...my sweet and dear Ranni....she's alive....."

A tear ran down her cheek as she immediately wiped it away.

"That is good to know." She said,

"I will see her at once."

"What the actual fuck?" Brutalus said as he stood over two unconscious bodies, "Recusants?"

He had a spear in his hand, emanating with what looked like Frenzied Flame; Vyke's War-Spear. As he looked down at the Tarnished warriors who had ambushed him while he was fishing, he scowled with nothing but annoyance.

"Shit." He said as he kicked one away, "Rykard is really that stupid, huh? You're fortunate that my son wasn't near, I would've shredded you to pieces."

"My Lord!!" he heard Malenia's voice

He looked over to see Malenia running through some bushes, her sword in hands.

"Yea." He said as he nodded

"Are you okay?" She asked, "Two Tarnished assassins attacked me in the camp, I slayed them with ease but I worried for your safety."

"You think these fools are good enough to injure me, let alone kill me?" Brutalus said as he impaled one of them with the spear without looking away from Malenia, "Please, didn't I beat you in a fight?"

Malenia sighed, "You're right, I was mistaken to worry." She said as she tucked her hair behind her ear, "Recusants sent by Volcano Manor, it seems. Rykard, as cowardly as always."

Brutalus then walked over to the one who was woken up by his kick, "Hey, call your Lord..." He said with a smirk, "See if he wants to come down to Liurna and fight me one-on-one...."

"For his mother, that is."
