Chapter 15 - The Greed of Man

It was a stormy night as rain fell over a human town that was located near The Holy Barrier that normally separated the Holy Region of the world from the rest of the world.

This town was very well maintained with clean roads for travel. It had magic lamps in front of the main gate where two guards were stationed on duty. They were watching the road waiting for the next person to arrive from the main road, if only to give their late-night shift more interesting with things to do that will help past the time.

A carriage that was covered by a black tarp that was bound to the carriage by magical locks as if what was under it was something of great value to the person that was driving it towards the gate.

When the carriage stopped at the front gate of the town, the guard to the left of the carriage walked up and started to talk to the driver.

"I need to know what kind of cargo you are bringing into the town?" the guard asked as he lifted the front part of his helmet and opened his left hand as if he wanted to receive something from the driver.

"This is nothing that you need to know about my business." The driver said as he placed a set of five silver coins into the guard's open hand.

"The guards and I will thank you for the contribution to some drinks after we get off of work." He said as the guard waved his right hand and the gate to the city started to open.

Then, the driver brought the carriage through town, avoiding contact with anyone as if he was on a very important mission that took top priority for him to complete above all else.

The driver made it to a dark alleyway that was not lit up by any magical lights. They drove until the carriage had made it to a medium-sized barn that was entirely dark with no source of light.

"I am here for some business with the owner of your establishment." The driver said into the darkness as the carriage stopped moving.

After the driver spoke, the barn became lit up by a small ball of fire that did not stretch out more than five feet from the source of light.

Then, a tall male human with short black hair and a clean-shaven face that was wearing a red tunic and a nice pear of shoes along with a golden necklace that went all the way down to his stomach

"How much are you willing to pay me for this stock that I have brought you?" the driver said as they stepped into the light.

The light showed that the driver was a short and fat male human who was entirely bald. He wore a massive brown cloak to protect himself from the rain.

"Let me see what you have in store for me to buy." The gentlemen said as he walked around to the back of the carriage.

As soon as he walked around the carriage, he started to chant something quietly that caused the locks to fall from the carriage as he walked past them.

With nothing keeping the tarp in place, so when he tugged on it, the man in the tunic was able to pull it down with ease.

The carriage was not caring boxes of food, crafting tools, or even war supplies inside of it. Instead, there was a metal cage that had set of elves and dwarves that were only wearing rags for clothes. They were all bare feet with blisters and cuts all over them.

"So, you have brought me slaves. I see that you have brought a rare species there. Is this a female blood elf?" he asked as he grinned while he looked directly at a young female blood elf that was kneeling in a meditative state with her eyes closed.

"You have got a very good eye. She is indeed a member of The Blood Elf race." The driver said as he pointed at her long ears.

"How could you have possibly obtained such a rare race as a slave to trade?"

"I acquired her while I was trading with a human that said she had a lot of untapped power in exchange for his debt to me being paid in full."

"How much will it cost for the entire stock?" the man asked as he turned hiss back to the carriage.

The driver then began to rub his head as if he was thinking about the amount of money that he would want in exchange for his stock.

"I will take one gold and six silver coins." He said after he stopped rubbing his head.

"The blood elf is worth one gold due to her rarity, but the others are only worth half of a silver apiece. Because of that, I will not pay you a bit more than one gold and three silver coins." The man in the tunic said as he pulled out the money and placed the coins in the bald man's hands.

"All right, I will take it. I need the money more than the people who are with me." He said as he closed his hand and opened the gate of the carriage.

"You belong to me now. I will decide when you sleep or when you eat. You will treat me like your god because I will most likely kill you whenever I get board of what each of you has to offer me.

The slaves inside were all walking out of the carriage, and as the blood elf came out last the man that bought them began to grin from ear to ear.

"I will be back with a fresh batch of stock to sell next month." The man said as he got back on the driver seat of his carriage and started to turn it around so that he could leave.

"Now you will all follow me to the mansion where we will be staying."

Then, as Sophia rose from her bed and noticed that she was in her dorm room with Syndrell, she noticed that she was just dreaming about the past. It was a past that she would rather entirely forget. All the bad things that came from that one experience were things that she would give anything to forget.

As Sophia made her way to the end of her bed and put on her dark monk robes, she heard a knock on the door. When the door opened, she saw that her roommate Syndrell was entering the room.

She had developed a great amount of respect for her roommate ever over the last section of her education. During their last battle together, Syndrell earned a new title as the most powerful blood mage that has entered the magic school that was in the Dark Region. She had earned the title of The Dark Empress.

"Are you ready to go we have to go to the neutral realm and choose our servants today before we move to our new living quarters on the top floor of the dorm that is reserved for the elite students of this school?" she said as she turned back around and started to move down the hallway.

"Yes, I will always be thankful for getting to know you during my time in this school." Sophia said as she followed her roommate with a great deal of joy behind her steps.

If Sophia did not have to worry about her past and she could focus on the present instead. This was going to be the beginning steps of her becoming the Capitan under The Dark Empress that would one day reshape the world.
