Jason Liu turned toward the passenger seat, bent down slightly, and reached out to open the car door. He had a bouquet of roses in his hand, ready to hand them to Goddess Lin. This was the moment he had been waiting for—a perfect time to confess his feelings!
His heart beat fast, and a light sweat formed on his forehead. Jason's hand rested on the door handle, nerves rising in his chest. Just as he was about to pull it open, Lin Xiaohan, sitting in the passenger seat, noticed what was happening and blushed with anticipation.
"Um—"
"Excuse me, comrade! You're not allowed to park here. Your car has already been caught on camera. Please open the traffic control app and handle the violation as soon as possible."
The loud voice came from behind Jason and made him jump. "Ah!" he shouted in surprise, nearly flinging the bouquet into the air as he turned too quickly. He fumbled to grab the flowers before they fell.
"What the—"
Lin Xiaohan also saw the traffic police officer standing just outside the car. She quickly opened the door and stepped out to talk.
"Hello, officer. Can you tell us what rule we broke?" Lin Xiaohan asked calmly. Unlike Jason, she had been driving for years and wasn't easily rattled.
The middle-aged officer looked at the flashy sports car parked on the side of the road, glanced at the roses in Jason's arms, then at the pretty woman standing beside him. It didn't take long for him to figure out what was going on.
He gave a friendly smile and said, "There's no street parking allowed here. Your car is in violation, so you'll need to take care of it using the traffic control app. Also, make sure to move along soon. Young people can date and fall in love, sure—but don't forget about traffic rules, alright?"
Jason looked down at the roses, nodded with a sheepish grin, and apologized, "Sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention. I'll move the car right away!"
He placed the bouquet gently in the back seat. Once Lin Xiaohan got back into the car, Jason quickly started the engine and drove off.
The officer watched them leave and smiled to himself, then turned to continue his duties.
"Phew, that scared me…" Jason muttered as they drove off, watching the officer disappear in the rearview mirror. "That guy came out of nowhere. I thought I was going to have a heart attack!"
He looked out the window and spotted the no-parking sign. "Ugh, I didn't even notice that sign…"
Lin Xiaohan smiled, her cheeks still pink. "Me neither…"
After leaving the restricted area, Jason found a temporary parking spot and pulled over. He reached into the back and picked up the bouquet—more than 99 bright red roses—and offered it to Lin Xiaohan in the passenger seat. The awkward moment with the traffic officer had oddly helped ease Jason's nerves.
Taking a deep breath, Jason looked straight at Lin Xiaohan and said seriously, "Xiaohan, I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?"
When he left the flower shop earlier, he had been thinking about making a romantic speech, maybe even quoting a line from a show. But now, all that mattered was saying the words out loud.
After he confessed, Jason stared at her, heart racing again, afraid that she might reject him with a "Sorry, I don't feel the same."
Lin Xiaohan blushed even more. She looked down at the roses Jason was holding out and, after a brief pause, reached out and took them from his hands. She didn't want this silly man to lose his nerve if he had to ask again.
"I accept!" she said with a sweet smile.
Jason froze for a second in disbelief, then lit up like the sun. "Yes! That means we're officially a couple now, right? You're my girlfriend! Finally, I'm off the list—no longer single!"
He laughed joyfully. Lin Xiaohan rolled her eyes playfully and smelled the roses, giving him a teasing glance. "I was starting to wonder how long you were going to wait. I didn't expect you to do it today."
Jason scratched his head and chuckled. "Well, I wasn't confident before. I was scared you might say no, and then it'd be super awkward."
He looked at her again, eyes blinking like a shy kid, clearly wanting to say something but struggling to get the words out.
"What is it?" Lin Xiaohan asked, curious.
"Cough... So, uh... now that we're officially together... shouldn't we celebrate or something?"
Jason looked away shyly, pretending to glance out the window. "In the TV dramas, they always do something to celebrate, you know…"
Lin Xiaohan, who loved watching dramas too, instantly understood what he meant. Her already red face turned even pinker. She looked down and nervously whispered, "What... what do you mean exactly?"
Honestly, Jason didn't have the courage to push things further. If she had said no, he would've backed off immediately. But seeing Lin Xiaohan act more shy and nervous than him gave him a sudden boost of confidence. He swallowed hard and leaned in closer.
As Jason moved toward her, Lin Xiaohan could feel his breath, warm and close. She lowered her head like a nervous little bird, too embarrassed to even glance up.
He was so close now that he could see the soft peach fuzz on her flushed ears and the gentle curve of her face. Jason swallowed again—she looked so beautiful.
Then, he gently lifted her chin with his trembling hand. Lin Xiaohan knew exactly what was coming. Her heart pounded. She squeezed her eyes shut.
Jason leaned in. Their noses almost touched, and both of them could feel each other's breath.
And then—Jason kissed her.
Her lips were cool and soft, carrying a light, floral scent. It didn't feel magical like the novels described, no lightning or fireworks, but it was sweet and real.
They were both new to this. Awkward. Clumsy. Lips bumping and retreating, shy and unsure—but to Jason, it was still thrilling.
He sat back in his seat, dazed.
His first kiss in over 20 years... gone.
That thought echoed in his head, and he sat there silently, completely stunned.
Lin Xiaohan, still red with shyness, glanced over and asked, "Hey, are you okay?"
Jason blinked, still caught in the moment. "Yeah… I was just thinking about how I lost my first kiss. Got a little emotional…"
"Pfft—" Lin Xiaohan burst into laughter. She reached out and gave him a light smack on the shoulder. "You're such a dummy! Why does it matter? You're a grown man! That was my first kiss too, so if anything, you're the one who got lucky!"
Jason grinned sheepishly.
