As soon as Jason Liu heard her say that, he lit up with joy."Mmm, yeah! I definitely made the right move!"
"Alright, now hurry up and drive," Lin Xiaohan said playfully. "We'll be late if we don't leave soon!"
"Don't worry, we've got time," Jason replied, glancing at his phone. It was still just past 11—more than an hour to go before noon.
"I'm worried because you drive like an old man," Lin Xiaohan muttered, rolling her eyes. "If the traffic gets bad again, we'll really be stuck."
Jason laughed awkwardly. "Hey, safety first. We won't be late, I promise!"He'd only been driving for a few months, and even though Lin Xiaohan was a woman, she had years more experience behind the wheel. He knew she was the better driver—at least for now.
But still, starting today, he could finally say it: he had a girlfriend. A real one.Not just anyone, either—his girlfriend was Lin Xiaohan.
Let people call him single now, ha!
Jason drove steadily, keeping his speed around 60 to 70 km/h. Finally, they arrived at Hotel at exactly 11:41 AM.
Nineteen minutes early. Not bad. Looks like my driving's getting better, he thought proudly.
They parked in the underground garage. When Jason bragged about arriving early, Lin Xiaohan just rolled her eyes. Still, she walked to his side, carrying a small purse in her left hand. Then, without saying anything, she reached out and took his arm.
Jason stared in surprise. Lin Xiaohan's cheeks flushed red, and she widened her eyes, pretending to scold him.
"What are you looking at? Hurry up, or we'll actually be late!"
Jason felt lightheaded as she clung to his arm. He caught the sweet scent of her perfume and felt her soft curves brushing against him. It was like a dream—almost too good to be real.
So this... this is what it's like to not be a single dog anymore, he thought, almost laughing.Yeah, it's pretty damn nice.
The two of them—good-looking man and beautiful woman—walking together naturally drew attention from people around them. Some turned their heads; others just stared. Jason felt a wave of satisfaction. It boosted his pride more than any money or job title ever had.
As they pushed open the door of the private room at the hotel, all the chatter inside stopped. The group of former classmates—already seated and chatting—turned to look at them all at once.
The guys stared, a mix of shock, admiration, and sudden realization washing over their faces.
The girls were just as surprised. Some smiled in understanding, others showed a flash of jealousy as their eyes landed on Lin Xiaohan.
Everyone knew Lin Xiaohan worked at Jason's company now, as the manager of the finance department, no less. Her salary was easily better than most of theirs. Now, seeing the two of them walk in arm in arm, no one needed it explained. It was obvious—they were together.
So that's why the goddess Lin landed such a good job at Fusion Trading, they all thought. She's dating the boss!
"Brother ! Damn, I have to hand it to you!" Chloe whispered, giving Jason a big thumbs up and a knowing look. "You really managed to win over our Lin Xiaohua back in college—legendary!"
"A beauty in a luxury car, and you're the boss of your own company? Jason, you're living the dream!" another classmate added. His tone was a little strange, half-joking but clearly envious. "If I'd known you were going to blow up like this, I'd have clung to your leg back in the day!"
Jason scratched his head and chuckled humbly. "Ah, it's just a bit of luck."
He couldn't act too smug. That would just be showing off.
Out of the corner of his eye, Jason saw Logan, the self-proclaimed "king" of their old class group. The guy looked stiff and uncomfortable.Back in college, Logan was always showing off. But now, seeing Jason walk in with the girl every guy used to drool over, as the boss of a successful company—he was probably dying inside.
Meanwhile, Lin Xiaohan joined the group of girls on the other side of the room. They immediately surrounded her.
"Xiaohan, wow! You actually caught the biggest prize in our class," said Natalie, her makeup flawless and her outfit clearly expensive. "You're amazing, sis!"
She smiled sweetly, but inside, she felt bitter. Back in college, Lin Xiaohan was always a bit prettier. Now, even after graduation, she had the better job and the better man. Natalie couldn't help but feel jealous, no matter how much she tried to act friendly.
But everyone here had grown up. Two years in society teaches people to hide their real thoughts behind polite faces. No one openly shows what they feel anymore.
Putting on a fake smile and pretending everything is fine—that's part of being an adult.
"Xiaohan, how's your company doing?" asked Grace, her round face smiling brightly. "Has the pandemic affected your business?"
Lin Xiaohan smiled and answered politely. She knew these smiles were just masks. The women surrounding her weren't truly happy for her. She could feel their jealousy, even if they tried to hide it.
But she was used to this kind of attention. Back in university, she was the one everyone noticed—especially the guys. She'd had to deal with plenty of envy from other girls back then, and now, nothing had really changed.
Still, she stayed polite, playing along with their small talk. After all, they were just classmates, not real friends.
Everyone here had jobs now. They weren't college kids anymore. The pure, innocent student days were long gone.
Out of a class of 30, about 19 had shown up. That was already more than expected. It was rare to gather this many people, especially with everyone scattered across different cities and busy with their own lives.
Jason didn't know most of his classmates very well. They were more like acquaintances than friends.
Even the guys in his dorm back then—only two of them were close to him. The other four? Just distant roommates.
They'd lived together for four years, but once they graduated, the dorm group chat went silent. Not a single message in over two years. Maybe they'd exchange a "Happy New Year" on WeChat, but that was it.
People often talked about how close their dorm was—calling each other "boss," "second brother," "third bro," and so on—but Jason didn't buy it.
He didn't know if the other dorms were really so tight. But his own dorm? They'd never been that close.
To him, they were just classmates, nothing more.
