Mirabella looked worried. "What happened?" she asked, noticing the grim look on Eros's face.
Eros stood up from the ground and dusted off his hands. "The smell of death is heavy," he muttered.
Just then, a short distance away, the trio noticed stains of blood half-hidden beneath the sand, shifting with the wind. Eros frowned. He lifted his hand into the air, and his eyes glowed gold. The desert wind stilled, and the sand shifted and parted, revealing a severed head buried in the ground.
Mirabella gasped, her soul almost leaving her body at the sight of the blood-dripping head. She immediately reached out and covered the eyes of the young prince.
Kael frowned in silent protest.
He wanted to tell Mirabella that he wasn't some delicate child unfamiliar with gore. After all, his father was a man who once ripped out someone's heart in front of his mother just because they dared to be cocky.
