The next day
Kevin stood in front of an simple but eye catching house. The house was beautifully painted in a mixture of sea blue and white. Most of the windows and doors were made of glass. A closer look and one would notice that the house was really extravagant. Kevin smirked with a neutral expression and thought
" Of course this is her style. Always greedy when it comes to money"
Even as he thought of this, he couldn't help but feel a little bit sad. Linda was still his sister after all, and he still carried a soft spot for her despite all she had done. He hated himself for being this week but there was nothing he could do. He stood a little bit further away from the house thinking, when did Linda turned out to be like this. When they were young, he remembered how close they were. They all helped each other and Kevin loved that life even though they were poor. Not until Linda came home one day and begun blaming thier grandma for all thier troubles. She said thier grandma was the root of all thier problem. Kevin never understood her words and linda never bothered to explain. From that day, thier relationship begun to break. Linda was not often found in the house and even if she came, she barely had time for her brother channelling all her time into fighting with the old woman. Kevin then knew that he had ost a sister. But even now he finds it very difficult to believe that linda sold him out.
He subconsciously glanced at his outfit and laughed at himself. Even now, he was afraid to hear hurtful words from her when he asked his questions. He had casual clothes on and a pair on glasses on. A white cap was on his head and he held a small briefcase. He took I a deep breath and walked professionally to the house. He then pressed on the doorbell and waited for a while. Then he heard footsteps and soon, the door opened. Kevin couldn't believe his eyes. The last time at the supermarket he hadn't seen her at a close distance but now seeing her again he was stupified and was at loss of words. In front of the door was a slim and stunning lady. She was wearing an oversized beige sweater slightly covering her bulging stomach. She had a straight and mesmerising face. Kevin gasp. It was really Linda. As he was lost in her thoughts, a feminine voice pleasing to the ears, brought him back to reality
" Mr. what brings you here "
She said with a smile. Kevin quickly regained his composure and said in a professional manner
" Good day miss are you... Linda Askew "
He said and secretly observed her reaction. And Linda's reaction was within his expectations. She was really surprised. It has been long since she heard that name. She frowned and said
" no, I'm not. You found the wrong person "
Kevin gave her a disappointed look and said
" oh, is that so. Then I'm sorry. What is your name then "
Linda gave him a scrutinising gaze, there was something familiar about the young man in front of her that she couldn't point. She was also surprised by his words. She had changed her name years ago and had destroyed all evidence relating to that name. How come this man know that name. She then answered with a serious voice. Her friendly demeanour seemed to have dropped
" I'm Angelina Foyer. What about you, who are you "
Kevin suddenly smiled. But there was something hidden in that smile. 'Changing your name huh'. He thought. Then he said.
" miss Foyer, I'm.... Kevin,.... Kevin Rogers "
Linda's smile faded and she staggered back. Kevin, the name rung in her ears. She then stared at him with wide eyes. Her eyes suddenly turned misty and she looked at Kevin like a ghost and murmured
" Ke....Kevin it, it can't be "
Kevin pretended to be puzzled and said in concern
"Miss Foyer, what's wrong. Are you okay "
" huh... what are you pretending for "
He thought. He was about to talk but Linda said in her state of disoriented mind
" You, who did you say you are "
Kevin said innocently
" I said I'm Kevin Rogers "
Linda was so astonished. She stared at Kevin in confusion, not knowing what to think. Then she asked with difficulty
" do...., do you know me "
Kevin was slightly taken aback by Linda's questions. He maintained a confused expression and said
" no, I have never seen you before in my life miss. I was given a task by someone to look for Miss Linda Askew and tell her something important. He gave me this adress that's why I'm here. Perhaps does she lives here"
Linda became more confused. This young man seemed familiar, he was also called Kevin. Could he be her brother. No she wished that wasn't true. How could she face her brother after all that she did. She tried to regain her composure and said
"Oh no she doesn't live here but she is my best friend. She used to stay here before. But you can tell me who sent you and the information you want to give her. I would gladly pass it to her. "
Kevin gazed at her for a while. Initially, he had intended to to just ask his questions and go, but upon seeing Linda, he lost the courage to ask her and instead thought of playing with her mind. Also Linda was pregnant and at this stage she might not be able to handle any big blow. Kevin said in denial
" I'm sorry miss, but I can only tell them to miss Askew. And my boss's information is quite confidential "
Linda felt something fishy. She tried persuading him but Kevin firmly stood on his grounds. Linda had a strong feeling that the person infront of her was Kevin. But Kevin acted so innocently as if he never knew Linda. Linda tried to spot any fishy emotion on his face but found nothing. She begun to doubt if she was imagining things. But what does he want from her. Who sent him and what information did he have to rely to her. Could it be related to.... Maxwell. But if that was true then what did Maxwell want from her. She had already made things clear between them through her actions. As she was lost in thought, she heard Kevin's voice
" but,.. since you said you are her friend, then give me her number. I would call her "
Linda immediately nodded and gave him a bunch of numbers. Kevin secretly smirked. He loved it when he was confusing people and playing with thier mind. Making them feel insecure. That feeling was just great. After he collected the number which he knew was Linda's, he said
" let me call her right now "
Linda panicked and quickly said
" no, no. Don't call her now "
Kevin again placed on an innocent face and asked
" why "
" she is at work right now and won't answer if you called her now. Wait for some few hours and call her. She would be free during that time"
Linda explained. Kevin nodded and said
" oh, okay. Then I would take my leave "
Linda nodded and saw him off.
Kevin got into his car and drove his car to a she place. He then waited for some few minutes. Knowing Linda so well, she would be restless and impatient and will call him. Just like he had thought, Linda's call came through and he chuckled upon seeing it. He commented
"After so many years you're still so impatient"
But he didn't answer the call. He waited until 8 calls from Linda came through before he finally answered. He heard an unfamiliar voice but he knew very well that it was Linda.
" hello,please is this Mr. Rogers "
" yes I suppose this is miss Askew. I'm sorry for not answering your call earlier. I was driving that is why "
He lied smoothly. Then he heard Linda's voice again
" oh is nothing. My friend told me you have something to tell me "
Instead of answering, Kevin asked
" yeah miss but I thought you were working. Your friend said you are not free "
Linda chuckled at the other end and said
" oh don't mind her. She forgot today was my off day"
" that explains "
Kevin said. Wow his sister was also good at lying. It wouldn't be a surprise if Maxwell thought her. Linda on the other hand said with a little pressure
" so, Mr. Rogers what did you want to say "
Kevin smiled mischievously and said
" someone I can't reveal sent me and all he had to say was...."
Kevin's tone suddenly changed and he said with a threatening voice
" Linda Askew, you wouldn't get away with what you did. Even if years have come, l still have scores to settle with you and you have to answer my questions. We would meet sooner or later. Just be careful, don't die before you meet me, or I will follow you to hell"
Then he changed his tone to a cheerful one and said.
" That's all miss Askew, take care bye. "
He then ended the call before Linda could talk and happily drove away.
Unbeknownst to him, a car was secretly following him.
