Darren's POV
She fell into my arms, her noiseless sobs racking her body. She shook fiercely, trying to rein it in, but it was useless. Rowena ended her spell, and I could finally hear her.
She was in pain. Her cries confirmed it. Her sobbing eyes attested to it. Her shaking body spoke only the truth.
She pounded my chest. Her fists heavy and begging. She wanted it all to end. The pain. The memories. The grief. The loss. Unfortunately, she had to go through every single part of it. Understand it and accept it.
Things wouldn't change no matter how much she cried. Her friends wouldn't come back to life. She would be thrown into an endless cycle of guilt that I was much too familiar with.
I pulled her closer, her naked body pressed against me, but I didn't care. Just having her alive and well was enough. Finally, I was at peace. She was alive. She could breathe. She could talk. She could see me. And she remembered everything.
