Chapter 77 - Wooden World(13)

As the two small stones, which Cades hadn't even looked at, were silently crushed under his hands the shards seemingly vanished to nowhere, turning into strings of mana, or rather intent, just as they had done before and settling in Cades body that was still dangling in the air like a ragdoll hanging down from the ceiling of a train.

And soon after the raging storm of energy battled against the horde of policemen that were stopping his mana from moving as he willed it and seeped through, settling into the infinite engraving that had somehow continued to spread along his body, as if it was alive and preparing for something, something grave.

Cades instinctively knew what these two new actives entailed, and he already felt that the naming sense of whatever deity created this thing was horrendous, seeing as these two were called magic missile and regeneration blessing.

He already knew a magical skill known as magic missile before, seeing that it was one of the basics, it basically just entailed creating a hard core of condensed mana and shooting it away, though it was much more effective to form the mana beforehand, which is also how some sword.masters are able to create thousands of flying swords, or even just one magical blade to fight with when they lost their own, albeit that that act was beyond the current Cades in its intricacies and handling, and even more so seeing that Cades was barely able to use the mana missile in other ways than it was originally intended, shooting a ball of condensed mana at something at a break-neck speed.

The regeneration-buff on the other hand seemed to be quite a bit more complicated, it entailed an unknown energy spreading through ones whole body and causing that very matter that it had spread through to heal, in a way which not even Cades had any ide about how it worked.

Cades was almost certain that the Magic missile was probably a tier one, but he couldn't remember which one would be fitting for the regeneration, either way these two would be very useful for them, especially the regeneration blessing, and even more so in the current situation.

And as such Cades began screaming his answer, and also a thanks, but it instead transformed int him just thinking it, as if he was being forced to shut up and just talk in the mind, perhaps by the very same active that had caused them to talk inside their minds in the first place.

"A MAGIC MISSILE AND A SO-CALLED REGENERATION BLESSING; WE HAVE TO HURRY UP; WHAT IS THE PLAN"

Cades had intended to scream exactly what had been resounding in Manugs mind right now, but rather than it being silent and calm, it was full of anxiety and resounded as if it truly intended to scream across this endless island, it was so loud that it even cause the two of them to grow an even worse headache that they already had from this entire escapade, not that it mattered right now, seeing that Manug was already prepared for it and Cades was the only one punished by his own words.

Manug instead, still calm and completely logical due to his rarely used constant collected himself for a moment and soon thereafter began talking once more, or rather he began thinking aloud once more, trying to tell the basics of the plan to the Cades who was still panicking as he was dangling in the air, only holding on by a single arm, hundreds of foot high up, though even that might not be enough to kill either of them right now.

"These two new actives are indeed good in our current situation, magic missile just to destroy, especially since you seem to be able to endow you actives with more mana and consequently more strength than I can, or anyone else that has actives as far as I know, except, maybe, for some rarer constants that I personally did however never before hear of. The second one however is one that I myself also wield, another reason to be happy about not receiving it, seeing that absorbing it once more would've just strengthened the already fairly weak power ever so slightly, it is after all not that powerful of a active, and especially for healing, but in this circumstance where you can enhance it using your magic you might be able to heal yourself up quite nicely."

Manug took a break off talking for just a bit just to let the new knowledge sink into the person dangling from his hand, something that did actually work as Cades was after all obsessed with knowledge, so much so that he had once tried to cut off parts of his own body to learn more, which also resulted in him starting artificing after his parents, mainly his mother, learned of it and panicked, trying to spur it into a better direction instead of bodily mutilation which he had never done again, except with monsters and dead corpses that he had to work on, though his parents weren't really told about those parts.

Yet, after a short time he began talking, or rather thinking once more, telling him about the little sketch of a plan, a mere shadow, that he was able to come up with.

"I assume that we have to destroy that orange stuff at the base of the trunk of the huge tree in the middle of this endless island, perhaps it is controlling the wooden puppet, perhaps apparitions emulating the corpses or souls of beings that had been killed, after all many a curse and powerful being has to be slain like that, at the heart, the centre. This would also explain why such a big piece of land was explained and the tree is right in the middle, perhaps the being had been spreading out right from the middle. Other than that I do however have to add that I won't be able to fly for much longer, I can already feel the strain after not flying for such a long time, my species isn't normally able to fly after all... Actually, we might be going down right about now.."

And indeed, it was as if Manug wasn't being pushed up anymore and was now just gliding downwards, facing the endless army of trees, all hiding puppets, and soon thereafter they saw one of the beings that had been following them.

There stood a wooden puppet atop the very tree they were now headed towards at a greater pace.
