NYX'S POV
"Dad!" My voice cracked, trembling with a mix of disbelief and desperation as I chased him through the marbled hallway, the echo of my heels like knives scraping glass.
My fingers clutched his wrist, nails digging in as if pain could anchor him to me, but he yanked free like I was nothing but dust on his sleeve.
"What is your problem woman? I have other issues at hand right now, stop adding to it." I glanced up at Dad in surprise. I am his only daughter and he is always doing everything to please me. Why the sudden change of actions?
"Dad.."
"Nyx, find another man," he spat, not even bothering to look at me.
I froze, the words stabbing deeper than I expected. Another man? Just like that?
"No…" I whispered, breath hitching as the rejection settled into my bones. "No, Dad. I don't want another. I want Ian. I want my alpha."
He stopped, only to turn toward me with cold exhaustion in his eyes. "Then maybe you should have done better when you had the chance."
