"As expected... troublesome."
Obito, his body phasing into intangibility, watched as Danzo once again passed right through him, effortlessly evading his attack.
His seemingly invincible Kamui intangibility was being completely countered.
"Zetsu..."
From Obito's side, a large mass of white matter emerged, slowly condensing into a humanoid upper body. It looked as if it had grown directly out of Obito himself.
At the same time, his hands swiftly formed seals.
"Wood Release: Spore Technique!"
Danzo immediately sensed the presence of life force chakra spreading throughout Training Ground Three.
Obito dashed toward Danzo once more, his movements quick and aggressive. The half of White Zetsu attached to him made him look like a monstrous being.
"Wind Release: Wind Pressure!" Danzo clapped his hands together.
A blast of wind swept through the battlefield, sending dust into the air and obscuring their vision of each other.
"Be careful!" White Zetsu suddenly warned.
As he spoke, a dark shadow flashed toward Obito from the left.
Obito immediately phased out, allowing Danzo's attack to pass harmlessly through his body. The moment he materialized again, the White Zetsu attached to him twisted sharply, wielding a wooden spike aimed directly at Danzo's back.
However, the wooden spike passed straight through Danzo's body without resistance.
Sensing White Zetsu's confusion, Obito spoke up.
"I didn't use Kamui... it's a clone technique."
"No, something's off. My Spore Technique should have detected this correctly. Why is there another one? Watch the left—!" White Zetsu's voice was filled with alarm.
But it was already too late.
A glowing Rasengan had already pierced through Obito's torso.
"Now's my chance—Kamui!" Obito seized the fleeting opening.
Though the brief window wasn't enough to fully pull Danzo into his Kamui dimension, it was more than sufficient for White Zetsu to launch another attack.
Despite his growing doubts about his Spore Technique's misreadings, White Zetsu acted on Obito's command, thrusting the wooden spike toward Danzo, who was momentarily restrained by spatial distortion.
"Poof!"
A burst of white smoke erupted.
The wooden spikes, brimming with life force chakra, struck the ground instead of Danzo. In an instant, they sprouted into a thick tree trunk.
"A shadow clone!"
In White Zetsu's perception, Danzo had once again disappeared without a trace. His Spore Technique had never failed like this before.
The swirling dust in the air suddenly began moving in an orderly pattern, and through the haze, faint blue light flickered.
"Not good—above!" White Zetsu shouted in alarm.
But it was already too late.
"Wind Release: Ultra-Big Ball Rasengan!"
The swirling dust was blown away in an instant, revealing a massive, glowing Rasengan descending from above.
Obito, who had been calm up until now, suddenly trembled.
"Space—!"
The enormous blue sphere pressed downward relentlessly, obliterating everything in its path.
A deafening explosion followed.
When the dust settled, a massive crater had formed in Training Ground Three, nearly taking up half of the entire area. Surrounding trees had been snapped like twigs by the shockwave, their broken trunks leaning outward from the blast zone.
The ground near the crater was churned as if it had been plowed through by a giant.
Danzo steadied his breathing and remained alert, scanning his surroundings.
"I hit him... Hm?"
At the bottom of the crater, Black Zetsu slowly emerged from the ground, using his "Mayfly" technique to bring Obito up with him.
The moment they surfaced, Obito collapsed onto his hands and knees, panting heavily. Blood dripped steadily from his mouth.
Danzo immediately took note of Obito's condition—his tattered clothing, his missing mask, and the complete absence of White Zetsu's attachment. His body was riddled with wounds, and more importantly, his right arm was gone.
"Strike while he's down...!"
"Wind Release: Vacuum Wave!"
A powerful cutting wind blade shot toward Obito, aiming to finish him off.
Just as it was about to connect, a mass of black material surged up in front of Obito.
The attack vanished into the blackness as if it had been swallowed by a void.
"Obito, can you hold on?" Black Zetsu's voice sounded next to him.
"Cough... My organs... they've been shredded..." Obito coughed up another mouthful of blood. The pain was eerily similar to when the boulders had crushed him years ago.
Unfortunately, White Zetsu hadn't survived the last attack. If he had, Obito might have been able to heal himself.
What troubled him even more was that the space around him felt thick and sluggish—similar to the sealing barrier in the cave where Kushina had given birth.
If not for that, he could have easily used Kamui to escape.
It was clear that Danzo, ever the schemer, had planned this in advance. Faced with such a well-prepared opponent, even Obito was starting to feel the urge to retreat.
"...Kakashi's coordinate is still active. Black Zetsu, hold him off for a moment. We're leaving."
"Wait, Obito..."
Black Zetsu slowly emerged from Obito's side, his dark form creeping upward.
"That old man knows too many secrets. We can't let him live. Let me take over your body—I'll finish him off."
Obito hesitated, but seeing Danzo charging toward them from the slope, he gritted his teeth and made his decision.
He offered no resistance.
Black Zetsu melded seamlessly into his body, quickly enveloping him. The dark liquid seeped deep into his flesh.
Obito's right side turned completely black, and his missing arm was replaced by the same inky substance. The chaotic aura of his injuries faded, replaced by an ominous presence.
"This is... shit..."
Danzo couldn't help but curse at the sight before him.
This felt like fighting a boss in a video game—one that kept changing forms, each more troublesome than the last.
"Stay on guard. If things go south, I'm ready to use Kamui at any time."
"Don't worry, Obito..." Black Zetsu murmured darkly.
He had already made up his mind—no matter what, even if it meant exposing some of his true nature, Danzo had to die here.
