Danzo could clearly feel his life force being drained by this jutsu. However, when he activated his Yang Release chakra, he found that he could isolate himself from its effects.
Meanwhile, Obito sensed his body recovering at an astonishing rate. His wounds rapidly closed, and his life force surged back into him. But rather than feeling relieved, his wariness only deepened.
Black Zetsu had never mentioned that he possessed such an ability.
Even though he had relinquished control of his body, he had not done so entirely. As the primary consciousness, he could still seize control at any moment.
As the jutsu ended, Black Zetsu's voice emerged from Obito's mouth.
"Obito, something is off about this old man. He might actually possess Wood Release…"
Having observed the battle closely, Black Zetsu noticed that White Zetsu's Spore Technique had failed multiple times, even giving false sensory feedback. That kind of chakra—rich with life energy, mimicking the Spore Technique—was not something just anyone could wield.
"You told me only the First Hokage could use Wood Release. Not even the Senju clan should be capable of acquiring it."
Black Zetsu had outright dismissed the rumors from the Land of Lightning battlefield, where it was said Danzo had Wood Release.
"He must have obtained it through other means… Perhaps by transplanting the First Hokage's cells," Black Zetsu speculated, though uncertainty lingered in his tone.
He knew better than anyone that true Wood Release was born from the chakra of Asura. Without that fundamental chakra, possessing Wood Release should have been impossible.
"Then let's capture him. I also want to know how he's aware of my Kamui…"
Obito's Sharingan locked onto Danzo, his gaze cold and calculating.
Danzo, on the other hand, looked at the fully restored Obito—no, Black Zetsu—and inwardly cursed. This situation was getting out of hand. These two weren't going to let him walk away.
"Clang…"
Black Zetsu undid the iron restraints on Obito's wrists. The chains, already shattered by the earlier Big Ball Rasengan, fell uselessly to the ground. Two pitch-black rods materialized in his hands, which he then hurled toward Danzo, following closely behind them.
"Taijutsu?" Danzo's hand gathered chakra, forming a Vacuum Blade as he stepped forward to meet the attack.
He wasn't afraid of close combat. In fact, it suited him just fine.
Ninjutsu had little effect on Yin-Yang Release, but perhaps sealing techniques would work…
However, the moment their weapons clashed, Danzo realized he had miscalculated.
Yin-Yang Release was just as much of a cheat as Obito's Kamui. His Vacuum Blade lost its chakra upon contact with the black rods, and worse, his own chakra flow was disturbed.
Luckily, the effect wasn't severe, but if those rods pierced his body, he would end up like Naruto in the original timeline—completely helpless.
And unlike Naruto, he had no Tailed Beast to break free.
Dispelling the chakra-infused blade from his kunai, Danzo switched to pure taijutsu and weapon combat. Even so, he remained highly cautious, keeping his distance as much as possible. He wasn't about to take any risks against this kind of ancient monster.
Black Zetsu, of course, noticed Danzo's wary approach. The man was being careful, avoiding all direct contact with his body.
It felt like Danzo knew a lot more than he should.
Black Zetsu's intent to kill him only deepened.
Both combatants leaped apart. Black Zetsu quickly formed hand seals, controlling Obito's body.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique."
A massive fireball roared toward Danzo.
"Wind Release!"
The wind technique tore through the flames, nullifying the attack. But Danzo quickly realized something alarming—he had completely lost sight of Black Zetsu.
"Concealment Technique?"
Underground?
A warning instinct flared in his mind.
Danzo jumped back just in time to avoid Black Zetsu's hand, which had reached up from beneath him.
But just as he landed—
Whoosh!
A black rod whizzed past, narrowly missing him.
He was being pushed into a defensive position. There were no clear attack patterns, no signs before an assault.
He had to force Black Zetsu out into the open.
Even before his feet fully touched the ground, Danzo had already started forming hand seals. Slamming his palms onto the earth, he activated his technique.
"Wood Release!"
The ground beneath them surged as thick, intertwining trees erupted, forming a dense wooden structure over the entire battlefield. The overlapping layers of wood spread rapidly, reinforcing the terrain with an intricate lattice of branches.
Below, Black Zetsu—still submerged underground—was caught in the fast-growing roots and dragged to the surface.
"So, you really do have Wood Release," Black Zetsu mused, bound by the technique.
"Your Yin-Yang Release can't absorb solid matter, can it?" Danzo quickly formed another set of hand seals.
A wooden spear shot forward, striking Black Zetsu dead center. Instantly, the spear expanded, forming a wooden sphere that grew uncontrollably, its internal branches shredding everything inside to pieces.
"Is it over?" Danzo panted, staring at the massive wooden sphere before him.
"It's over."
Two black rods pierced straight through his body.
Half of Black Zetsu's form emerged from a nearby tree as though he had grown out of it.
"You…"
Danzo's eyes widened in disbelief.
Black Zetsu grinned, his expression twisted with amusement.
"I know Wood Release better than you do."
