"How could you stand and walk now?" Deresita glanced at her elevated foot. "I saw you get taken away in an ambulance. Blood was everywhere, and… your body didn't look like it could move. Look at you now, though. You can even drive without a problem. Did I hallucinate at the highway overpass?"
"No." Rhodes brought down the phone in his hand and sat on the edge of her bed. He whispered, "My legs were both broken, as well as my arms. My neck almost snapped, and my spine almost needed surgery. I can only move my fingers… but someone saved me."
Deresita glanced at his totality in disbelief. She asked, "Someone from the trauma team?"
Rhodes shook his head. His voice went softer. "The person I had been looking for. He gave me… something… something equivalent to my life. It fixed my body without a catch… only that he almost fucking died before me. If I couldn't handle compressions, we would have lost him. What an idiot…"
