A small smile curled Rhodes's lips behind his cup of coffee. However, that smile was nothing happy. He figured Griselda wasn't the only one who knew his parents.
He brought the coffee down after a sip. "My father must have been kind to you, Granny. It's been a long time since he was gone. You were still looking after his son."
"Looking after you is exactly what I failed to do." Lucinda van Iveren sighed and looked up at Rhodes's face. "Rhodes, I'm sorry about leaving you when your mother lost your mind. I would have done something for you, but the Coles family warned us. We can only watch from the shadows."
"Are you… related to my dad?" Rhodes frowned. One bucket of relief washed over him when Lucinda shook her head. However, it didn't show. He asked again, "Then why would you say that?"
