Kiera's eyes fluttered open to the sterile scent of the hospital room, her mind foggy as she tried to gather her thoughts.
The hum of the medical equipment was the only sound in the room which in turn was only interrupted by her own steady breaths.
'Where am I?' she asked inwardly, still trying to figure out how everything happened.
To her surprise, she found Jace at her bedside as he pushed out in his seat, worry etching his handsome face.
As she shifted under the thin hospital blanket, an IV line tugged at her arm, an unpleasant reminder of her situation.
"Tsk," Kiera tsked as the pain shot through her brain.
Spotting her consciousness, Jace quickly rose from his chair, settling on the edge of her bed. His usually stoic expression was replaced with genuine concern as he softly asked, "How are you feeling, Kiera?"
Finally, she settled on the bed and managed a weak smile with the corners of her eyes crinkling.
