Chapter 2 - Class Description

The blinding golden pillar of light attracted attention from all over the city. Everyone knew what this phenomenon represented — an S-rank.

The old man hosting Alex's awakening ceremony had a soft smile on his wrinkled face.

"Haha! This is the fifth S-rank in two years," he scoffed.

Right after he spoke, the golden pillar of light disappeared, and above Alex, a projection began to materialize.

A human figure holding a grotesque, barbed tree branch that had countless eyes etched onto it. The figure wore a tattered robe with black and red engravings, and atop its head was a crown made of bones filled with wailing ghosts and wraiths.

The projection lingered for only a moment before vanishing into nothingness.

Alex stared at the projection with resentful eyes, as the peaceful life he had once imagined was overturned by an external force.

Unknown to him, the old man had vanished from his original position, and in his place stood a woman who looked to be in her early thirties.

She had white hair and blue eyes, with fair, milky-white skin that could melt anyone's heart. She wore knight's armor that had clearly been through countless battles.

A valiant aura surrounded her, making her presence even more intimidating.

She was surprised to see Alex's S-class projection — it was one of a kind, something no one had ever witnessed before. This projection alone piqued her interest in Alex.

Alex walked out of the awakening rune with a dejected look.

"Ugh! All ruined because of this unknown variable," he murmured quietly.

"Oh? You didn't want a combat class?" the woman asked with a slight frown.

Shocked by the sweet voice that did not match the old mage's, Alex couldn't help but follow the sound and looked at the beauty before him.

Even though he was mesmerized by her stunning appearance, he didn't dare admit that he had wanted a lifestyle class. An unexplainable fear crept up his spine — this woman was terrifying in her own right.

"Of course not! I just wanted a higher rank," Alex lied calmly.

...

"Hehe... it's good to be young," the woman giggled after hearing his response.

Alex remained quiet and maintained his 'I've awakened an S-class, but I'm still not satisfied!!' expression.

"My name is Cecilia Roman. I'm the current general in charge of the 38th battlefield, and I'm also responsible for nurturing newly awakened professionals," she said with a small smile.

"My name is Alex," he replied with a smile of his own.

"Enough small talk, let's go," the woman said as she snapped her fingers.

Both of them were enveloped by a rune circle and disappeared from the awakening room.

...

Alex wasn't shocked by this sudden gesture. He knew very well that the moment someone awakened a combat class — especially any class ranked C or higher — they were immediately sent to the nearest battlefield to fend off the beast tides.

Yes, the beast tides were constant and relentless.

There were a total of 100 battlefields, each controlled by individuals who were at least S-rank or higher professionals.

Since the day the awakening of professionals had begun — triggered by the fused will of worlds — humanity had only managed to reclaim a few worlds, and that too with the relentless sacrifice of countless talented individuals.

These so-called battlefields were actually shattered fragments of ruined worlds, infested with abyssal beasts.

Even after years of fighting, professionals had only managed to reach a slight stalemate in some battlefields. True conquest had remained out of reach.

Battlefield No. 38 was one such stalemate zone.

...

On a desolate field...

The figures of Alex and Cecilia materialized in a military base that housed tens of thousands of soldiers.

As soon as they arrived, the soldiers saluted their general with utmost respect.

Cecilia walked toward the building ahead, and Alex quietly followed.

While walking, he opened his status window.

[Name: Alex]

[Profession: Abyssal Druid (S)]

[Level: 0]

[Exp: 0/100]

[Strength: 12]

[Agility: 12]

[Mana: 30]

[Stamina: 12]

[Skills: Corrupted Whisper]

Out of curiosity, Alex checked his class description.

[Abyssal Druid — A corrupted evolution of the traditional druidic path, drawing its strength not from serene nature but from the decaying roots of the void and the eldritch unknown. These druids are the twisted wardens of forgotten groves, where death, madness, and entropy reign supreme. Unlike other druids who protect life, the Abyssal Druid embraces the cycle's dark end — rot, ruin, and rebirth through horror.]

Alex was speechless as he read the system's notification. Countless thoughts swarmed through his mind, only to be interrupted by the beautiful voice beside him.

"What's your class?" she asked.

"S-rank Abyssal Druid," Alex replied with a wry smile.

"Huh?" Cecilia blinked, thinking she had misheard.

"S-rank Abyssal Druid," Alex repeated, this time with a helpless look.

"... Do you mean the kind of druid that transforms into animals and talks to nature?" Her face darkened, though she tried to keep her smile intact.

Sensing the shift in the atmosphere, Alex shared the class description with Cecilia.

After a few moments…

Cecilia read the description again and again, but it made no sense to her.

"Draw power from decay, death, and madness?! What the hell is that supposed to mean?!"

She had lost her composure.

Alex stood still like a statue and simply shrugged, a helpless smile plastered on his face.

"Like hell I wanted something related to death and decay!!" he screamed internally, cursing every deity he could think of.
