Chapter 32 - The Tale Of Gu Wei

Gu Shi Lu and Gu Bao Jing were two loving couples that couldn't stay away from each other for a day or longer.

They were so immersed in themselves and their love that life problems, such as money or responsibilities, were unimportant.

And with their flourishing tourist careers, the two sweethearts didn't lack in the money department.

Gu Shi Lu, originally the daughter of Wang, was the only child of her parents.

Brought up in a loving family that insisted only on her well-being, Gu Shi Lu was a carefree child and a very spirited adult.

So it was only natural when this free spirit met a similar free soul and fell in love.

Gu Bao Jing was also an only child, and the two connected over and beyond the fact.

Their relationship spiralled quickly, and it was in the blink of an eye that the wedding progressed, and they were pronounced husband and wife.

Life moved on, the two newlyweds took on the same job to never be apart again.

Free souls such as them would wither if not allowed to roam free, and the couples parents bid their children farewell every time they left for their exploring.

Gu Shi Lu and Gu Bao Jing never stayed in one place for too long, and they were always on the move to the next.

It was on such a trip that Gu Shi Lu was contacted and told the most heartbreaking news.

Her father was dying.

This young person had never experienced grief before, and the two couples rushed home in fright.

Gu Shi Lu's father died just minutes after Gu Shi Lu arrived, and his only last words were repeated over and over in a loop.

"Grandchildren… Little ones."

From then on, Gu Shi Lu vowed never to leave her home again and made her father's wish come true.

The young babe Gu Wei was born, and Gu Shi Lu showered him with all the love that existed in the world.

A love that dimmed when her child began weekly visits to the hospital.

A love that turned bitter quickly when Gu Shi Lu was told by the doctor that her child was different, that he needed attention and the utmost care.

What attention did her son want? Was what she was giving him not enough?

Then he was diagnosed. Dyslexic Auditory Learning Processing and Function Disorder, DALP for short, they called it.

Her child was slow. It took him double the amount of time to learn and process.

His mind was fragile, and he forgot things easily.

Gu Shi Lu was to care for and be responsible for a child that was supposed to be a gift to her father but turned out to be a burden.

How was Gu Shi Lu expected to treat a child that she was slowly coming to hate?

All the love she showered him, and he'd thrown it in her face.

Gu Bao Jing saw the agony in his loved one's heart and couldn't take the pain of her fading away from him.

Not a month after a five-year-old Gu Wei was diagnosed, Gu Shi Lu and Gu Bao Jing packed their bags and boarded a plane far, far away.

Gu Shi Lu promised her mother, who she'd left her son with, to return after a year.

A year was all she needed, and she was going to return as a better mother to her son.

However, as fate would have it, Gu Shi Lu never came back.

Deep down, clutching his Nana's hand with tears streaming down his face, the heartbroken child experienced his first phase of abandonment.

Crying tears that dried up immediately after their descent with the cold temperature and the relentless snow billowing upon them.

Young Gu Wei did not understand why his parents were leaving without him.

Nor did he understand that his mother's kiss on his forehead, her crushing hug, would be the last of her warmth he ever felt.

Gu Wei's Nana worked hard to not let Gu Wei feel outcasted as she brought him up.

But was such a thing possible in this black and white world? One where Gu Wei was seen as boldly different?

Even the teachers complained about his slow learning and advised a private tutor for him.

Wang Dai, Gu Wei's Nana, had no choice but to hire a tutor for Gu Wei, whose condition seemed to have worsened with the leaving of his parents.

But even with the added tutoring, school tests and exams were vices in Gu Wei's side, and for the first time, Gu Wei repeated a class.

With the amount of strain and bullying he got from the other kids and his mental health periodically declining, the doctor advised that he be home-schooled.

It was during Gu Wei's homeschooling through all his middle school years that he met the young master Ha Xing, who was also being homeschooled at the time.

The young master's parents had refused to leave their child so young alone in the education system and turned to schooling from home.

So loved was Ha Xing by his parents that, after hearing that Gu Wei's parents had abandoned him, he clutched his new friend's hands and dragged him home.

All to share his parents' abundant love with Gu Wei.

That was how Song Ha Xing and Gu Wei became the best of friends.

Growing up together till they sprouted up in heights and their heads almost touched the ceiling.

So when Ha Xing was set for high school, Gu Wei took courage from his best friend and followed along.

Ha Xing and Gu Wei became a mysterious handsome duo in their high school days, eventually joined by the great pervert Shi Yi, bookworm Xu Ai, protective Mother Wei, media-obsessed Ling Jie, and bouncing head He Sheng.

A group of outcasts with each of their uniqueness and grey areas.

Gu Wei met all his friends.

Friends that he would spend the rest of his life with.

Friends that would never demean him for his condition or call him out on it.

Friends that protected Gu Wei from slanders and hugged him whenever his parents reared their heads into the country and broke Gu Wei's heart all over again. Never staying, never interested in Gu Wei or his life.

The young boy Gu Wei may have grown up without parents, but he had people surrounding him that were more than they ever could.

His loving Nana and his manic friends with their loud shenanigans.

Gu Wei swore to never lose any of them, swore to not let his condition ruin his relationship with these unique people.

There was only a minimum amount of abandonment one's heart could take.
