Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: First Meeting with a Vasto Lorde

The Forest of the Great Void – The Jungle of Night

As its name suggests, this place is shrouded in eternal darkness, devoid of even the faintest trace of light.

"My King, the surrounding Adjuchas have been completely eradicated by you."

A goat-like Adjuchas , standing three meters tall and five meters long, spoke with a fawning expression as he addressed Ren. This creature was known as Yuan Perk. Like the strange fish, Chiva Barnes, he had surrendered to Ren after consuming the thunder ball and experiencing his overwhelming power.

In the past few days, Ren had encountered over a dozen Adjuchas inhabiting the Forest of the Great Void. Apart from Yuan Perk and Chiva Barnes, who willingly submitted, the rest had been reduced to spiritual energy, now residing within Ren's body.

"King, you should not venture any further. There is another Vasto Lorde dwelling within this jungle!" Chiva Barnes warned nervously.

These two Adjuchas firmly believed that their king was an immensely powerful superior—one of the legendary Vasto Lordes. They had no inkling that Ren was, in truth, merely a Gillian.

"If you're too afraid to proceed, then wait for me at the outskirts," Ren replied indifferently.

He understood their unspoken reluctance. After all, their allegiance had been forced upon them, and their servitude was still fresh. Expecting unwavering loyalty from them so soon would be naive. Without another word, he left them behind and ventured deeper into the dark jungle alone, eager to confront the mysterious Adjuchas rumored to reside within.

Before disappearing into the shadows, he cast a final glance at his reluctant followers and added with a smirk, "By the way, don't stray too far. If I lose track of your spiritual pressure, the thunder ball within you might just... boom."

At this, both the goat and the fish trembled in fear, their expressions instantly filled with forced enthusiasm.

"How could we possibly run? We shall remain right here, awaiting our king's triumphant return!"

Ren merely sneered at their cowardice and stepped into the abyssal darkness ahead.

A cacophony of crows echoed through the jungle.

Ren paid them no mind. As he released a sliver of his spiritual pressure, the flock fell silent at once. Once he passed, the scattered birds coalesced into a massive crow that shuddered at his presence.

"Gu… Another one! Another one!" it cawed ominously.

As Ren ventured deeper, the towering trees gradually shrank, their gnarled branches adorned with dewdrops of condensed spiritual energy. Small bats hung upside down, their eyes shut in eerie stillness.

However, as soon as Ren entered their domain, hundreds of these bats snapped their eyes open, their green irises gleaming with hostility.

"Squeak!"

A piercing chorus of screeches erupted, forming a wave of sound that surged toward Ren like an invisible assault.

"Annoying."

With a mere flicker of his power, dark golden spiritual pressure erupted from his body. It intensified rapidly, condensing into a towering golden pillar that pierced the eternal night, illuminating the jungle with blinding brilliance.

The bats, overwhelmed by his overwhelming energy, scattered in a frenzy, their once-coordinated assault descending into chaos.

"Are you still hiding?" Ren's voice rang out, calm yet commanding. His gaze was locked onto a cavernous nest, a void so deep it seemed to swallow all light.

A pulse of emerald-green spiritual pressure surged from within the darkness. It roared forth like a tidal wave, colliding with Ren's golden aura in a display of raw power.

"Such immense spiritual pressure... Truly worthy of being a Vasto Lorde," Ren murmured to himself.

He carefully analyzed the energy radiating from the depths of the nest. It rivaled his own—perhaps even surpassed it.

His spiritual pressure had doubled since his ascension to Gillian. If, upon first evolving, he had barely scraped the threshold of a third-class captain's strength, then now, his energy firmly ranked among the elites. His was the true, undeniable presence of a captain-level entity.

And yet, the force before him was not to be underestimated.

A clash was inevitable.

But even so, his spiritual pressure was still being suppressed by this Vasto Lorde.

"It's Vasto Lorde!"

Recognizing the iconic dark green spiritual pressure, Ren immediately knew who was lurking deep within the nest.

Soon, a figure emerged from the darkness with blinding speed. As it stepped into the dim light, its form became clear—a humanoid figure, stark white, standing at roughly human height.

Its entire body was encased in a pure white exoskeleton, save for the bat-like wings folded neatly behind its back. A pair of deep emerald-green eyes glowed like gemstones, and a conspicuous hollow gaped in the left side of its chest cavity. The white mask, shaped like a bat, bore two dark green lines resembling tears, trailing from the corners of its eyes down to its jaw.

"It really is you—Ulquiorra Cifer!" Ren thought to himself, excitement flickering in his expression.

"Who are you?"

Ulquiorra spoke slowly, his tone calm and indifferent. His voice carried an unnatural sluggishness, a sign that he had not conversed with another being in a long time.

"I am the future ruler of Hueco Mundo. I have come to conquer you. Submit to me, and I will lead you to the place where your heart lies!"

Ren declared his purpose without hesitation.

But before he could say more—

"Whoosh!"

Ulquiorra flashed forward in an instant, launching a direct attack.

His speed was astonishing. In the blink of an eye, he was upon Ren, his slender yet deadly hand thrusting toward Ren's chest like a blade.

"I knew it!"

Ren wasn't surprised—Ulquiorra's obsession with piercing hearts was evident even back then.

"I already have a hollow hole in my abdomen, so there's no need for you to carve another!"

With a roar, Ren swiftly drew his right hand to his waist, gripping a blade still sheathed in a simple wooden scabbard. In one fluid motion, he swung it at Ulquiorra's incoming hand.

"Slash!"

A deep wound tore through Ulquiorra's left hand, blood spilling forth. But in mere moments, the wound sealed itself, flesh and muscle knitting back together effortlessly.

High-speed regeneration—another of his formidable abilities.

Seeing his attack fail, Ulquiorra retreated, maintaining a safe distance as his eyes observed Ren with renewed caution.

Ren lunged forward, blade in hand, eager for the clash to continue...
