Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Queuing behind a line, Ashley donned a cap over her bright yellow hair, she had her eyes on the black haired man in a grey hoodie who was queuing a few lines away from hers. It was Ryan Black, the freelancer they interviewed yesterday. She never thought it would be this soon for her to start tailing him around, not because he is a suspect, but a bait, a possible bait to lure out the Tall Lady.

Last night, a man was found fainted in an alley around the northeast of Amarod City. The police thought it was just the usual case of a drunkard being drunk due to the strong smell of pungent alcohol from his breath.

But upon waking up in the hospital, the man kept screaming profusely for help, speaking incoherently about a pale white lady who wanted to suck his soul out of him.

Both Ashley and Kiara were sent to the hospital to investigate and soon found out that the man in front of them was the second survivor from the assault of the Tall Lady. All the descriptions provided by the man about the Tall Lady were perfectly matched with what Ryan had told them.

Did his alcohol-ridden breath make him less desirable? But that wouldn't make sense cause the man in the apartment had beer cans all over the floor. Whatever made her stop sucking the man dry was the same reason that made her willing to travel all the way from Limerock Town to Amarod City. Kiara deduced that Ryan might be the one she was after, or something Ryan had the other victim doesn't.

Currently, Kiara is working with the patrol officers to search for more possible victims throughout the city because they have reason to believe that the man in the hospital was not the only victim for the night, the more witnesses they could find, the easier it is to trace the footprints of the Tall Lady.

Sitting at a long table with my head down in the crowded cafeteria, I toyed with the spoon in my right hand, pushing around the fried rice on my plate. What happened between me and Lara yesterday was amazing, her playful touch and the warm and humid sensation between her thighs still vivid in my mind but what happened to her? Something about her is foreign to me, it's like she's showing her wild side to me, the side I never knew she had despite knowing her for years. Is it because I'm someone special to her?

"What's with the silly grin?"

Sitting across from me was a cyan-haired man with his elbow on the table, propping up his chin on his hand, giving me a gloomy look.

"Nothing."

"No, I can see you're lying. Is it about a girl? How dare you have a girl after what happened between us?! The way you pinned me down in the lecture hall."

I rolled my eyes at his dramatic antics, apparently after the thing between us blew up in the social media, the girl he had been texting with saw the picture and texted him 'good luck' before ghosting him on social media.

"Do you know how hard it is to find a kind and cute latina girl with phat booty?"

"Please, you barely knew her. You only texted her for three months and she never answered your phone nor your video call. If anything, you should be grateful, that latina girl might be some middle aged man hiding behind the phone trying to catfish you or some girl trying to scam your money but decided not to after becoming a fan of our 'love story' people made up on the internet."

Dylan makes no move to reply, continued to sulk while biting on the straw on the juice box.

"Fine, I'll treat you to some burger with fries after class."

"Two burgers."

"...Okay."

Beside us, the girls sitting on the other end of the long table gasped with their hands covering their mouth, their eyes shining and full of admiration at both of us. Both me and Dylan had already gotten used to it by now and we can't really do anything, the more we explain the more they think we are lying.

"I gotta take a piss, watch my bag for me," Dylan reminded before making his way to the toilet.

Seeing him walk away, my bored eyes wandered around the cafeteria. University's cafeteria is in my opinion not much different than high school ones, there's always a group of computer geeks, socialites, jocks, bullies who peaked in high school and a bunch of normies with no impressive skills like me. Except the food is much better.

My wandering eyes fell on the table on the far right, a group of tanned girls with tight sport shorts gathered around the table, some were standing and some were sitting on the bench, their laughter and chatter filled the air and in the middle of it was Alex, sitting on the edge of the long table, always the center of all laughs.

They are the female track team of Amarod University, and Alex is their star in sprint category, she had won them second consecutive in region competition but fell second both times in the state competition. Amarod University is hopeful of her winning the state-level competition this year and she might be able to join the national team if she succeeds.

As Alex was chattering with her teammates, she paused for a moment when she caught my eyes amongst the crowd and waved at me with a goofy smile. I gave her a smile back in response. Her friends looked over to the direction she was waving at before turning their head back to her, grabbing her attention back to them and Alex simply laughed and waved off in denial about something they were talking about.

Just as I was wondering what they were talking about, a loud commotion came from the back of the cafeteria disturbed my thoughts. Students were clustering around the middle walkway between tables, the crowd grew bigger like moths to flame as seconds passed. Alex was tilting her head up while sitting on the table to look over the mass of students.

"LET GO OF ME!"

I wasn't interested at first but the sudden voice coming from the middle of the crowd alarmed me. I rushed to the back of the cafeteria and pushed my way through the crowd of curious onlookers toward the center. Alex did the same when she saw me running, following me from behind.

Reaching the front, I saw a female student with pink ponytail had her wrist clasped by a brawny male student, she was trying her hardest to pull her arm away but the man simply stood there with a cold smirk, unbothered by her futile resistance.

It was Tyler Ratfield, your typical combination of rich kid and school bully that thinks he can get away from everything because he came from money. I had heard rumors about him attempting to woo Hannah but Hannah had rejected him multiple times, my best guess is he probably thinks she was just playing hard to get.

"Come on, it's been months, let's skip all the games and get to the point. I know you want me."

"Fuck you! You fucking creep!" Hannah raised her free hand up and swung her open palm with full force, slapping him across the face in front of everyone.

"Tsk! You bitch!" Clicking his tongue, Tyler released Hannah from his grasp and raised his hand up in the air, preparing to slap her back for humiliating him.

Hannah closed her eyes and shrunk her body, bracing herself against the inevitable and…. nothing happened?

She slowly opened her eyes, expecting the creep who had been pestering her for the past few months still in front of her, but no, the jerk was replaced by the man with dark blue-haired who had moved into her house a few years ago, her childhood friend she had known since they were kids, it was Ryan.

Tyler laid on top of other students with his eyes widened in shock as he stared at the man who was standing beside Hannah. He, the captain of the basketball team, the starting center of Amarod University who was known to be unmovable in the post was sent flying by a scrawny looking dude that was half his size with only a push. He gritted his teeth and pushed against the crowd of students behind him to straighten himself up and roared at me, "You got some nerve boy! I'm about to fuck you up real good."

I stood there with a shaken face and body. What have I got myself into? I saw Hannah was about to get hit and I knew I had to push him away but I had never expected that I could shove him into the crowd like that.

My mind went blank as Tyler strutted toward me and cracked his fist, ready to beat me to a pulp.

What am I supposed to do now? I don't know how to fight.
