Derrick's POV
I sat in my room, completely still. The walls around me felt like they were closing in. My fingers were interlocked, and my elbows rested on my thighs. The room was quiet, but I could hear voices drifting up from downstairs.
They were trying their best to be quiet. The tension in the air was suffocating—but what could anyone do about it?
My mind was running too fast. Thoughts swirled around in my head, slipping away before I could grasp a single one.
I didn't even know how long I had been sitting there. I just knew I needed to think. I needed to figure out my next move. I had to get my people back.
A knock came at the door.
I didn't move.
The door creaked open slowly. "Alpha?" Felix called out.
I lifted my head, my eyes landing on Felix as he peered through the slightly opened door.
He stepped inside. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I replied, though my voice was hoarse.
