Chapter 3 - Working in the Palace

Rami... You've been accepted into the Emperor's Palace.

Rahaf: Good.

Noor: Hooray, hooray! Will you work in the kitchen or as a cleaner?

Rami: You will be a personal servant to Lord Haru.

Noor (shocked): Nooooo! Why? Did you try to change the master's decision?

Rami: I tried and failed. A carriage outside will take you to the palace.

Rahaf: Alright.

They got into the carriage, which moved until it reached the palace. They entered through the back door.

Shams: Welcome, Rahaf, to the Emperor's Palace.

Rahaf: Hello, Lady Shams.

Shams: You will work here as Lord Haru's personal servant.

Rahaf: I know that.

Shams: Good. Here are your work clothes.

Rahaf: Thank you.

Shams: Come, I'll show you the room you'll be sleeping in.

Rahaf followed Shams.

Shams: There will be three other girls with you in the room. You are the fourth. I don't want any problems between you.

(Noor to herself: "Oh dear, we won't be alone anymore… No problem.")

They opened the room door, but the other girls weren't there.

Shams: They are all at work. Change into your uniform so you can start serving. That's your bed, this is your wardrobe, and that's the bathroom.

Rahaf: Alright.

(Shams left the room, and Rahaf changed her clothes.)

Noor (affectionately): You look so beautiful, Rahaf. You are the prettiest girl here.

Rahaf (blushing): Thank you, Noori.

Noor: I'll stay here and put your things in the wardrobe.

Rahaf: Alright.

Suddenly, a girl named Reem entered with a special spirit named Soso.

Reem: Who are you?

Rahaf: I'm new here. My name is Rahaf.

Reem: I'm Reem. I work as a personal servant to Lord Koji. What about you?

Rahaf: I will be a personal servant to Lord Haru.

Reem (shocked): What did you just say? How is that possible?

Rahaf: Excuse me, I have to go.

(Rahaf left to find Shams and ask her what to do.)

Shams: Take this coffee and bring it to the library. It's on the third floor of the palace, the room on your left.

Rahaf: Alright.

On her way, she encountered a young man named Waseem, a member of the ruling family.

Waseem: I didn't know there were such beautiful maids here.

(Rahaf ignored him and kept walking.)

A girl: Waseem, stop what you're doing.

Waseem: What did I do? That maid is the most beautiful girl my eyes have seen.

Najma (angrily and jealously): Stop it, Waseem! She's just an ordinary girl, not beautiful.

Waseem: In your opinion. Just wait until my cousin Alexi or Koji sees her—they have good taste in women. See you, I have important matters to attend to.

Najma (jealous): Liar! I am the most beautiful girl here! No one is as beautiful as me!

---

Rahaf reached the library and knocked on the door. A voice answered, "Enter."

(Her heart almost stopped. She didn't know if he was a good person or a bad one. She entered, carrying the coffee cup in her hand.)

A man was sitting on the couch, reading a book with one hand while playing with his hair with the other.

(Rahaf felt a little scared by his presence and placed the cup on the table.)

Her heart almost stopped when she saw a small white dragon sleeping beside him.

(Rahaf thought to herself: "What is this? Is that really a dragon? Oh, my heart hurts so much!")

Rahaf (nervously): Do you need anything else, Lord Haru?

(Haru finally looked at her. The fear was clear on her face, and since he had the ability to read minds, he knew she was afraid of his small dragon.)

Haru: Why didn't you bring Shin's food with you?

(Rahaf looked at the dragon.)

Rahaf: Lady Shams didn't tell me I had to bring food for Shin. I just arrived at the palace.

Haru: Go and bring food for him.

Rahaf: Alright.

(Rahaf went to Shams, got the dragon's food, and gave it to him.)

As she was about to leave the room after completing all his requests…

Haru: Did I tell you to leave?

Rahaf (nervously): I'm sorry, I thought I had finished everything you asked for, so I was leaving to let you read in peace.

Haru: Stand by the door until I call for you.

Rahaf: Alright.

(Haru went back to reading his book while Rahaf stood there, thinking about her family. Did they realize she was gone yet?)

(Meanwhile, as Haru read, he could sense her thoughts. He understood that she was from another world…)

---

(By 3:00 PM…)

Rahaf: Oh, my legs hurt so much!

(Haru closed his book, got up from the couch, and motioned for her to follow him.)

(She followed him downstairs. He changed his clothes, grabbed his bow and arrows, and handed them to Rahaf.)

Haru: Go downstairs and to the stable. Bring my horse. Make sure it doesn't run away from you. Understand?

Rahaf: Yes.

(Rahaf went downstairs to the stable. Even though she was terrified of animals, she led the horse out and waited for her master.)

Rahaf: Why is he taking so long? I'm really scared of this horse…

(Suddenly, the horse kicked her in the stomach and ran out of the palace.)

Rahaf (in pain and fear): No! Don't go… My stomach…

(Suddenly, she felt Haru standing behind her…)
