Chapter 53 - Chapter 54: A Betrayal in the Dark

POV: Female Lead (Ha-neul)

Ha-neul felt a chill run down her spine as she stared at the message on her laptop screen.

You're making a mistake, doctor. Walk away before it's too late.

Whoever sent it knew her, knew what she was doing.

And they were close.

A knock at the door made her jump.

She turned, expecting Min-jae—

But it wasn't him.

It was Jung Tae-sung.

Her fellow doctor. Her friend. The man she had trusted.

"Hey," he greeted casually, stepping inside. "You okay? You look like you just saw a ghost."

Ha-neul forced a smile. "I… I'm fine."

But her body was tense.

Tae-sung had always been kind, always looked out for her.

But now, something felt off.

His eyes flickered to her laptop. "You working late?"

She shut the screen quickly. "Yeah. Just catching up on some reports."

Tae-sung smiled.

But it didn't reach his eyes.

And then he said something that sent ice through her veins.

"You should really be careful who you trust, Ha-neul."

Her fingers tightened around the edge of the desk.

It was him.

The warning message. The anonymous threat.

It was Tae-sung.

POV: Male Lead (Min-jae)

Min-jae's car screeched to a stop outside Ha-neul's apartment.

Something felt wrong.

His instincts screamed at him.

He sprinted to the door, his heart pounding. She was in danger.

He pushed the door open—

And froze.

Ha-neul stood there, her face pale. Across from her, Jung Tae-sung smirked.

"You're a little late, Min-jae," Tae-sung said, tilting his head. "We were just talking."

Min-jae's blood boiled.

"You," he growled, stepping forward. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

Tae-sung sighed. "I was trying to warn her. But she's stubborn, just like you."

Min-jae's fists clenched. "Warn her? Or threaten her?"

Tae-sung chuckled. "Depends on how you see it."

Ha-neul's voice was sharp. "Why are you doing this?"

Tae-sung's expression darkened.

"Because I owe him."

Min-jae's stomach dropped.

No.

Not him.

His father.

Tae-sung smirked. "You didn't really think he was working alone, did you?"

Min-jae's hands curled into fists. He should have known.

His father had spies everywhere.

And one of them had been beside Ha-neul the entire time.
