Chapter 27 - New Life Form?

Because there were no windows, the power room was dimly lit, with only the narrow iron door allowing some sunlight to barely illuminate the interior.

Some dark corners where the electrical equipment stood and the small rooms inside remained shrouded in darkness. Yasin's pupils had not yet adjusted to the dim environment, and he could only vaguely make out a few flickering points of light.

Yasin dared not let his guard down for even a moment. He secured his handgun where he could easily reach it, tightly gripped his sword, and cautiously stepped into the power room.

The first thing that caught Yasin's eye was a dried bloodstain on the ground. Judging by the color, the blood had been there for a long time.

Following the trail of blood, he could see that the dragged stains led toward a small room adjacent to the power room.

Yasin clenched the sword in his hands tightly, and without realizing it, a fine layer of cold sweat had formed on his forehead.

This power room was far too eerie. The lingering scent of blood and decay in the air gave Yasin the illusion that he had stepped into a horror movie scene.

Especially after the monster's ambush just moments ago, he had a strong feeling that, in such a terrifying environment, another creature could suddenly lunge at him from behind!

The door to the small room was slightly ajar. Yasin hid behind the wall beside the door and used his sword to gently push it open.

There was no sound inside, nor did any expected monster leap out. However, Yasin caught a faint whiff of rot!

Taking two steps back, Yasin gripped his sword with both hands, his vigilance at its peak, and peered inside the room.

The sight before him made Yasin suck in a sharp breath!

A corpse, half-eaten and mutilated, lay sprawled on the ground. One of its legs had been gnawed down to bare bone, while its neck appeared to have been bitten. The surrounding flesh had already begun to rot, and a large pool of dried blood stained the otherwise white walls and the power distribution box.

A wave of putrid stench surged toward him.

What shocked Yasin even more was that, beside the corpse, there was a pile of white bones and three skulls!

"What the hell happened here?"

Yasin's grip on his sword trembled slightly as he stared at the pile of bones.

This was definitely not the work of zombies!

Zombies would never eat their prey so cleanly!

The corpse, partially consumed, had not decayed as much as the other bodies in the villa.

Clearly, this person had not been dead for very long.

A chilling possibility suddenly came to Yasin's mind…

Could it be that the zombie he had just killed was keeping these people as a food source, consuming them bit by bit?

Not likely!

That zombie was indeed smarter than an ordinary one, but it was not particularly strong in combat…

Or perhaps…

The people trapped here had resorted to eating each other to survive?

Either possibility sent a shiver down Yasin's spine.

"Mmm… Mmm…"

At that moment, a faint, weak whimper reached his ears.

Frowning deeply, Yasin cautiously followed the sound, stepping carefully forward.

In the corner near a power box inside the small side room, Yasin found the source of the sound!

A baby!

More accurately, a monstrous-looking baby!

Yet, this half-human, half-monster infant looked incredibly adorable!

Even more so than a normal human baby, making it difficult not to feel protective over it.

There was no sign of aggression whatsoever.

Like the mother monster he had killed earlier, the little creature had pale blue skin and enchanting, ruby-red eyes.

Its body was bare, without a trace of hair, though its ears were long and pointed, reminiscent of a dark elf from a fantasy game.

The baby monster, seemingly just woken from sleep, immediately crawled out from a pile of clothes upon spotting Yasin, giggling and making its way toward him.

It was only then that Yasin noticed the small creature had a smooth, bald tail.

And from the tiny, exposed reproductive organs, it was evident that this was a female… or rather… a female monster…

The gleaming blade of Yasin's sword hovered before the small creature, but it showed no fear, continuing to smile sweetly and crawl toward him with innocent curiosity.

If Yasin were to swing his sword down, this bizarre yet adorable little creature would be dead in an instant.

The lurking mother monster…

The recently deceased, half-eaten male corpse…

The pile of bones…

And now, this charming little monster before him…

All these clues suddenly connected in Yasin's mind.

His raised sword hesitated in mid-air, unable to strike down.

"Forget it. I'll spare you this time. After all, you're just a baby—you haven't done anything wrong."

Looking at the creature, which seemed affectionate yet slightly fearful of him, Yasin let out a faint sigh and turned away from the small room, gently closing the door behind him.

He wouldn't kill this creature, but he wasn't going to release it either.

It wasn't one of his kind. Yasin had no idea what this little monster might grow into in the future.

If he let her go and she later attacked him or Vivian Sinclair, he would regret it deeply.

Yasin wasn't a bloodthirsty maniac, but he was no naïve fool either.

After thoroughly checking the last storage room in the power station, Yasin finally felt safe enough to inspect the facility's electrical system.

The generator was located within the power room and appeared to be in working order.

Yasin also checked the power distribution box, storage batteries, and wiring—nothing seemed damaged, and everything was functioning properly. The storage batteries were even fully charged.

That meant the issue was either due to the main circuit breaker being turned off or external wiring damage.

Based on Yasin's past experience fixing electrical circuits at home, the problem was most likely with the breaker.

He silently prayed that it wasn't the external wiring.

Given his limited electrician skills and the dangerous environment, if the wiring was damaged, restoring power would be nearly impossible.
