The next morning, Yejun woke up feeling… weirdly tired? He couldn't really tell why, but something was just off.
He got out of bed and sniffed the air. It still smelled burnt. Of course. That stupid note from yesterday flashed through his brain again.
As he got ready, Nari's warning about the fifth floor kept replaying in his head. And how he still went up there.
"Whatever," he muttered to himself.
Somehow, instead of leaving his dorm, he just...sat there. Deep in thought. It wasn't until he heard something crack loudly somewhere in the castle that he snapped out of it. Shit! He was so late!Yejun bolted out of his dorm, barely remembering to grab his bag.
Welp, guess breakfast was a no go today.
What is going on with my life, he thought as he sprinted down the hall.
Life was so much easier in the normal world...
Meh, who cares.
At least the hallway was finally empty enough that no one stared at him this time. Ever since knocking Adams out, people had been whispering. And as if being the son of someone famous in the magic world wasn't bad enough already…He power-walked for a few more minutes and finally made it to his first class: History of Magic with Mr. Rinh.
As much as he hated school and magic in general Mr. Rinh actually made it kinda fun.
Yejun pushed open the classroom door and everyone's head turned.
But the one person that caught his eye was of course—Doyun.
He was smirking at Yejun before turning to stare out the window like he didn't care.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Rinh, I didn't realize the time—"
"It's okay, Yejun. Don't worry. Go sit down."
Phew. At least Mr. Rinh wasn't mad.
Yejun slid into the back row and dabbed up Asher before pulling out his books. Today's class was chill. Mr. Rinh just had them read from one of his old books and occasionally asked questions. Weirdly, it felt like the period flew by. Once class ended, Yejun decided to look for Nari during the break. He knew she had another class, but maybe they'd cross paths— And speak of the devil—Nari was literally standing right outside the classroom.
She was smiling again. Like, actually smiling. It was nice seeing her like that.
"Hey, Yejun!"
"Hey, Nari!"
She nodded, "My class got canceled. Wanna come with me to the library? I need to pick up a book."
"Sure," he said, and the two of them started walking. As they passed someone in the hallway, Nari turned her head and waved at him.
Yejun side-eyed her immediately.
"Pfft, you like him or what?"
Nari smacked him.
"I mean...he's cute..." she mumbled, then quickly hid her face behind a book.
She cleared her throat. "But he has no personality anyway. So it's whatever."
"Understandable," Yejun nodded, totally not judging. They reached the library, and surprise—Nari wasn't here for school stuff. She grabbed a novel.
Yejun didn't mind though. He was kinda curious."What's the book about?" he asked as they sat down.
Nari looked up. "It's a thriller mystery. "Okay, now he was interested. He loved mystery novels.
"Ooh, what's it about?" Her eyes lit up. "Okay, okay, it's really good. So basically, this girl moves into the school dorms, right? But she notices that inside the dorm, it's always empty. No people. But when she leaves the building, suddenly there's crowds everywhere." Yejun leaned in. "That's weird."
"And she has a roommate, right? She wanted to be friends, but then she started noticing strange stuff. Like, one night she saw the roommate dragging something across the hallway…a bag. A big bag." Nari went off describing the plot, but Yejun didn't mind. By the end, he was already planning to get the book himself. They even decided to start a mini book club together. By the time the bell rang, Yejun was fully into the story. But now it was lunch, so he and Nari split up.
"Bye, Nari."
"Bye-bye~"
Yejun headed to his assigned table and dropped next to Owen.
As usual, Owen was doing...weird shit. This time, he was trying to turn his cooked chicken into a live chicken. Before Yejun could say anything, he heard bocking.
No way. Owen actually did it. Doyun, sitting on the other side, picked up the chicken casually.
"Hm. Let's name it...The Great Chicken."
Hana shot him a look. "You're so stupid."
The rest of lunch was just chaotic chicken-name debates.
Eventually, they stuck with "The Great Chicken."
Iconic.
Next up: Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Yejun really wanted to skip, but nope—he couldn't.
Worse, this was actually his first time attending that class. Yeah, he'd skipped all the other ones. He walked in and—no way.
Nari was in this class too??
Nice. This was gonna be good.He plopped down beside her. "Well hello again, Nari."
She flinched. "Oh—hey! Didn't see you there."They chatted a bit before the teacher, Miss E, walked in.
She gave Yejun a soft smile and started the lesson.
Of course, Yejun immediately tuned out and fell asleep.
When he woke up, the bell was ringing and the class was almost empty.
He grabbed his bag and dipped before Miss E could say anything.
The next two periods were free, so he went back to his dorm and crashed for a nap.
He woke up to a knock.
It was Doyun. Of course.
"Well, well. Time for the best part—detention!"
Yejun groaned. This guy seriously needed to shut up.
He didn't wait. He was out the door before Doyun could keep talking. They were supposed to be in the Charms classroom for detention. Ms. Keira wasn't there, but there was a huge note on the board:"I have work out of class again. Don't cause trouble. Stay in the classroom."Yejun sat down and took out a book. A few minutes later, Doyun strolled in and sat in front of him, turning around in his seat."Booo, you're so boring. Put the books away, let's do something fun."
"With you? Nah, I'll pass," Yejun replied. But it didn't take long. Doyun somehow convinced him, and now they were sneaking around the school. It was dark outside. Quiet. Empty. The whole place gave off major horror vibes. Yejun didn't even realize until they turned the corner and—
They were on the fifth floor. Again.
Oh no.
This was not going to end well.
