Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: The Person Who Came Back From the Dead

The car stopped, and I rushed over to help open the door. But Tingting was quicker than me. Before I could say anything, she pushed me aside and jumped into my second uncle's arms, tightly hugging him and shouting, "Dad."

Even I, hearing that "Dad," felt my heart melt.

No wonder my second uncle hadn't been to the shop since the Ghost Tower incident, and had been saying he wanted to leave the world of Yin and Yang and start a business. If it weren't for the fact that Su Dazhuang was involved in this mess, worrying about me, I don't think he would have stepped forward.

Thinking about it now, I felt a bit regretful.

If I had known, I wouldn't have involved my second uncle.

But now, with the situation having escalated, whether or not my second uncle was involved wasn't something I could decide.

My second uncle bent down, intending to pick up Tingting, but as soon as he exerted force, his face turned pale, and he let out a low groan from his throat.

I quickly took Tingting from him and handed her to Su Yimei's aunt, supporting my second uncle as I asked, "Second uncle, are you okay?"

At that moment, the door of the car behind us opened, and Su Dazhuang got out.

Su Yimei's aunt called out, "Dad," and started to walk over, but when she saw the dark look on Su Dazhuang's face, she hesitated and stopped.

At this moment, I could tell that Su Yimei's aunt was feeling very conflicted. Her marriage with my second uncle had never been approved by Su Dazhuang, and now, she had to face the fact that she was raising a child who wasn't even her own. Su Dazhuang, being a traditional man, would never accept it.

But these were problems for later. What mattered now was figuring out whether the Three Yin Sect was targeting me or the Su family's ancestral grave.

If it was the grave they were after, what could be inside it?

My second uncle supported me as we walked a few steps, then, after suppressing his internal bleeding, he walked on his own. It seemed like the injury wasn't too serious.

At this point, the car behind us opened its door, and Zhan Ling stepped out.

Through the window, I saw four burly men still sitting inside, seemingly unwilling to get out.

The Demon Hunters were still quite mysterious; it looked like they didn't want to show themselves in front of too many people.

I let go of my second uncle and walked toward Zhan Ling. Without hesitation, I asked, "Are they from the Three Yin Sect?"

"Mm!" Zhan Ling nodded.

I took a deep breath, suppressing my anger, and asked, "Are all Demon Hunters big, dumb brutes with no brains? Why focus so much on Zhang Ying and not even keep an eye on the surroundings?"

If they had done their job properly, this situation at Su Dazhuang's house wouldn't have happened.

Zhan Ling pushed her chest forward a little and asked, "There are over seven million people in the provincial capital, and we only have four people. What do you expect us to do?"

I was stunned into silence.

I let out a sigh of frustration and asked, "Are they targeting me or the Su family's grave?"

Zhan Ling, seeing that I wasn't being confrontational anymore, calmly replied, "It's the Su family's grave. As for what's inside, you'll have to ask Su Dazhuang."

From the way Zhan Ling looked at me, she must have already asked him, but Su Dazhuang hadn't said anything.

After Su Dazhuang got out of the car, he seemed distracted, and when Su Yimei's aunt called his name, he acted as if he didn't hear her.

He looked deeply troubled.

At this moment, my second uncle gave me a meaningful glance.

I understood and quickly caught up to Su Dazhuang, supporting him as I asked, "Grandpa, are you alright?"

Su Dazhuang snapped out of his daze and replied, "I'm fine."

I followed him into the villa and quietly said, "Grandpa, at this point, you can't hide anything anymore. If there's something, you need to tell us the truth. Only then can we solve the problem."

Su Dazhuang took a long, deep breath and said, "Some things… it's not that I don't want to say them, it's just that I don't know where to start."

I called for a maid and said, "Grandpa, let the maid take you upstairs to rest. Once you've thought it over and know what to say, just call for us."

Su Dazhuang still looked a little scared and grabbed my hand, saying, "Please go up with me."

In the living room on the second floor, Su Dazhuang sat on the sofa. After a short silence, he began, "When my mother was three months pregnant with me, she got into a car accident. At that time, she should have died."

I felt a chill run down my spine.

Su Dazhuang continued, "These things I'm telling you, my father told me just before he died. They were so… unbelievable."

After thinking for a moment, Su Dazhuang used the term "absurd" to describe his father's words at the time.

"I always thought it was just his rambling before death, but today, I've realized that it wasn't nonsense. It was true."

I hurriedly interrupted, "Grandpa, I'll go call second uncle and the others."

Su Dazhuang quickly got up and grabbed my arm, saying, "I'm only telling you this. If they want to know, you can pass on the information to them."

I didn't know what Su Dazhuang was worried about. Perhaps he just couldn't face what seemed so unreal, or maybe he didn't want to confront something he had once ridiculed. After all, he was a stubborn and prideful person.

I nodded and sat back down on the sofa, and Su Dazhuang began again, "After my mother's car accident, when she was sent to the hospital, she was already without a pulse. The hospital declared her dead. But just as my father was grieving, someone who had business dealings with him suddenly asked if he wanted his mother to come back to life."

"A life for a life—such a thing, and at such a high price, my father didn't hesitate. He agreed immediately and, according to this person's instructions, had my mother's body removed from the morgue that very night. After receiving the money, this person took her body away in a car."

"Two months later, that person returned my mother—alive. Before leaving, he left a red pill with my father, telling him that in thirty years, he must give the pill to my mother. If he didn't, something very bad would happen."

My heart tightened. A person coming back from the dead?

Could this really happen?

Moreover, what Su Dazhuang was describing sounded like the sacrificial ritual of the Immortal Clan.

After calming my emotions, Su Dazhuang continued, "Thirty years later, my father followed that person's instructions and gave my mother the pill. That night, my mother passed away."

"My father always thought it was his fault, and he lived the rest of his life in self-blame. He was depressed and died not long after my mother."

As he recalled the past, there was sorrow in Su Dazhuang's eyes.

I asked, "Grandpa, could your father be sure that the person who returned wasn't someone else pretending to be your mother?"

Su Dazhuang looked at me with a hint of anger in his eyes.

But he quickly calmed down and shook his head. "My father and mother grew up together. They had been together for twenty years when she had the accident. They were very familiar with each other, and there was no possibility of someone replacing her. Moreover, my father had a paternity test done!"

A paternity test meant that Su Dazhuang's father had also been uncertain.

Back in those days, it was a huge deal for a man to be cuckolded.

If there was no biological connection, Su Dazhuang wouldn't have been his father's son.

Su Dazhuang leaned back on the sofa and said, "That's all I know, Li Yang. My family won't be in any danger now, right?"

"The returning dragon has ended, so there shouldn't be any immediate danger. But since they didn't get what they wanted, the Three Yin Sect may come back."

I said this and gave Su Dazhuang two options.

One was to leave it to the Demon Hunters. With them keeping watch, the Three Yin Sect wouldn't dare to appear for a while.

The other was for me and my second uncle to continue investigating and solve the problem once and for all.
