Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: The Secret of Immortality

My idea was simple: the Su family and the Three Yin Sect had little entanglement. As long as we solved the mystery surrounding Su Dazhuang's mother, the Three Yin Sect would naturally stop targeting the Su family. After all, the Demon Hunters had been keeping an eye on the Three Yin Sect, and they wouldn't dare to act recklessly.

However, I also warned Su Dazhuang that whoever took charge of this matter might need to exhume the grave, because the people from the Three Yin Sect were likely after his mother's remains.

After a few seconds of silence, Su Dazhuang asked, "Do we really have to exhume the grave?"

I nodded.

Su Dazhuang asked again, "If we let the Demon Hunters handle this, what would they do?"

I responded honestly, "I'm not sure, but from what I've seen interacting with them, they don't seem reliable. They often resort to extreme measures to achieve their goals, and I'm worried they might end up hurting Su Yimei."

I wasn't trying to scare him; I was just being straightforward. Zhan Ling had used me twice. In the Ghost Tower, I was almost caught by the King of Hell. The second time, if not for Zuo Daoran's magnanimity, I would've had both feet in the Underworld. The Demon Hunters weren't trustworthy.

Moreover, they were just a small team, and Zhan Ling didn't hold the final say.

Seeing Su Dazhuang still hesitating, I knew he was averse to exhuming the grave, but he also feared that if the matter wasn't resolved, his family could be harmed.

Noticing his indecision, I said, "Grandpa, think it over upstairs. I'll go downstairs for a moment."

Su Dazhuang knew what I intended to do and didn't stop me, tacitly allowing me to relay the matter to the others.

I went downstairs, and everyone stood up.

My second uncle asked, "Has the old man spoken yet?"

Su Yimei's aunt shot my second uncle a glare and pinched him hard on the arm.

My second uncle immediately winced in pain.

I thought my second uncle was being a bit too much, but as a junior, I didn't feel it was my place to say anything.

I sat down and asked Su Yimei's aunt to send the maid away, then repeated what Su Dazhuang had told me.

After hearing this, everyone's expressions varied.

My second uncle fell silent.

Su Yimei's aunt was holding Tingting, looking incredulous.

Only Zhan Ling appeared excited.

I knew her excitement was due to the scent of money.

This sudden enthusiasm made me uneasy. From my interactions with her, I didn't think Zhan Ling was the type to be easily swayed by wealth. Her reaction indicated that the reward for this mission must be extremely high.

For other bounties, I could understand that there might be a client behind it, but for a mission targeting the Three Yin Sect, if the goal were just to eradicate evil, who would offer such a large sum?

If there was a client, it likely had something to do with immortality.

In fact, the higher-ups in the Demon Hunters' organization could very well be that client.

As these thoughts crossed my mind, I regretted allowing her to stay.

Zhan Ling, unaware of my concerns, immediately said to Su Yimei's aunt, "Miss Su, leave this matter to us. We won't charge any fees, and we'll bring in some top figures from the Demon Hunter list to ensure your safety."

I frowned.

If they could indeed bring in some top-tier figures to protect the Su family, it would certainly be more reliable than my second uncle and I fumbling around.

Su Yimei's aunt, unfamiliar with Zhan Ling, adjusted her hair and said, "This matter still needs to be decided by my father."

Hearing this, Zhan Ling stood up, ready to go upstairs.

At that moment, Su Dazhuang's voice came from the hallway. From where he stood, it was clear he had overheard Zhan Ling's words.

I went upstairs.

Once seated, Su Dazhuang asked, "What do you think about Zhan Ling's proposal?"

The fact that the old man was asking this showed he didn't understand the Demon Hunters.

If he did, and knew about the Demon Hunter list, he would have made a decision without asking.

But since he did ask, I decided to share my honest opinion.

I replied, "If they bring in top-tier experts, it would certainly be better than us handling it ourselves. Also, the Demon Hunters and the Three Yin Sect have a deep-seated enmity. When cats and mice meet, they wouldn't care about anything else."

Su Dazhuang asked, "Are you saying we should let the Demon Hunters intervene?"

I nodded. "Don't worry, Grandpa. Even if the Demon Hunters handle it, my second uncle and I won't sit back. We'll still keep an eye on things in the background. And Su Yimei's aunt, my wife, and Huang Jiu's wife will all be together, so they'll be safe."

"You're married?" Su Dazhuang was surprised.

With pride, I said, "The most beautiful woman standing next to Su Yimei's aunt is my wife."

"Good-looking, good-looking…" Su Dazhuang muttered, scanning me up and down. "You're still young, right?"

"Rural marriages happen early!" I chuckled.

As we chatted casually, it was clear that Su Dazhuang had made up his mind and was no longer conflicted.

I stood up and asked, "Grandpa, should my second uncle and I talk to Zhan Ling, or will you handle it?"

Su Dazhuang hesitated for a moment and said, "You go talk to Zhan Ling. My only requirements are that they ensure Su Yimei's safety and that they can't touch my mother's remains without my permission."

I nodded and went downstairs, but instead of going straight to Zhan Ling, I called my second uncle to the yard.

I wanted to hear his thoughts.

After hearing my recounting, my second uncle said, "If it involves the secret of immortality, it would be a regret if we miss it. But with our abilities, it would be too risky to handle. And even if we don't let the Demon Hunters do it, they'll come to take it by force."

The Demon Hunters would come to take it by force?

I hadn't considered that possibility.

But if immortality was involved, it wasn't entirely impossible.

My second uncle continued, "Go talk to Zhan Ling. The Demon Hunters should take the lead, but we must be present when the grave is opened."

I understood what my second uncle meant.

It was simple: the Demon Hunters would handle the work, but we would observe, and what they saw, we would see too. We wouldn't miss out on any clues.

However, I wasn't eager to be involved. I told my second uncle, "I'm curious too, but having the clues won't benefit us. I don't want to get involved!"

My second uncle said, "Some things aren't about what you want or don't want. It's something we can't avoid."

"Can't avoid?" I was confused.

My second uncle's eyes flickered, and he spoke impatiently, "The Hundred Thousand Great Mountains are also related to immortality, and your wife comes from there. Can you avoid it?"

The Hundred Thousand Great Mountains were a well-known topic in the Xuan world, and though it had nothing to do with the Three Yin Sect, how could I avoid it?

But my second uncle glared at me, telling me to do as he said and stop questioning.

Unable to argue with my second uncle, I went back to the villa, considered what both my second uncle and Su Dazhuang had said, and reached an agreement with Zhan Ling. The Demon Hunters would take over the matter, but my second uncle and I would remain informed.

If they exhumed the grave, not only would Su Dazhuang's consent be required, but my second uncle and I must be present.

Zhan Ling also set a condition: we could be present, but we couldn't interfere with their actions.

Seeing my second uncle secretly nod, I agreed without hesitation.

Just after the agreement was made, Zhan Ling eagerly signaled for the four Demon Hunters in the car to come out and began inspecting the Su family villa inside and out.
