Chapter 36 - Academy Library

The tour of Fire Fountain Hill ended at three in the afternoon. Kanna explained that their magic training would be held tomorrow.

Kanna would teach them basic magic and how to control it specifically, different from what they had learned before entering the Academy.

Aiden knew his two new friends as Stella and Caleb, they were from the Nord and Aiswen nobles. Both were noble businessmen in Lunor City.

Even so, Aiden felt that Stella and Caleb were much nicer than Ronald and Clarissa, their attitude seemed hesitant as they appreciated Aiden's hard work as a commoner who managed to qualify as an academy student.

Since the tour was over, they were welcome to return to their dorms. But for those who wanted to leave Fire Fountain Hill, they were required to report to the duty student at the gate, to confirm the student's destination.

Aiden decided to leave the place to go to the academy library. Since every student had a library slip, they were allowed to enter and read every book there except borrowing.

Only Iris class students had the right to borrow books, Silk class students did not.

"Academy library?" asked the gatekeeper, a second-year student.

"Yes," Aiden replied.

The student nodded. He recorded Aiden's name in the exit permit book and let Aiden go. Aiden walked down the stairs of the hill alone, Helen saw him leave but she didn't know where he was going.

Aiden continued to walk away from Fire Fountain Hill until he reached the center of the academy, where many students from different classes and years gathered with each other.

The only difference between them was the uniforms they wore. What separated the three classes was the color of the abstract patterns on their white uniforms.

The Silk class had ash-colored abstract patterns, the Iris class had blue-colored abstract patterns, and the main students had gold-colored abstract patterns.

In the academy center, the differences could be clearly seen from each other. Iris class students and main students never disputed, but it was different with the Silk class.

To them, the nobles who entered the Silk class were the kind of lowly, weak, and worthless nobles, their arrogant gazes similar to when they looked at the commoners.

That was why the number of Silk class students in the academy center was far less than the Iris class students.

It was because of the discriminatory attitude that the Iris class students always had towards them.

Among the academy buildings, Aiden's attention was centered on the five-story building with the academy library. It was much more grand than the city library.

Aiden entered and met with the librarian. When she saw the uniform Aiden was wearing, her face turned wry from its original friendly smile.

"What?" she asked coldly.

''Her demeanor is different compared to when she talked to Iris' students,' Aiden replied.

"I'm going to read a book, what do you think I'm here for?" Aiden asked, snapping back.

"Tsk!"

"Show me your library slip," the woman said, and Aiden took out the slip.

[Library Slip]

[Name: Aiden Aswald]

[Class: Silk]

[Access Right: Floor 1-2]

[Visit time limit:]

"Here." The librarian lady handed the library slip back and explained the mechanism to Aiden.

Since Aiden was a Silk student, the library floor access rights were only up to the 2nd floor, the rest was forbidden.

Not only that, but the visiting time limit was also imposed to three hours per visit in one day. That made Aiden squint.

'What the hell is this?I thought education was an equal right for every mage here,' Aiden complained.

As it turned out, it wasn't just Iris's class students who were being discriminatory, but also the academy. They differentiated the access rights of library visitors based on the student's class.

"Hurry up, you don't have much time," the librarian replied.

Annoyed, Aiden stepped inside and saw dozens of bookshelves displayed on the first floor. That was just the standing shelves, not counting the books stored on the wall shelves.

Among the other visitors, most of the people who came were Silk class students from the third year. Only a few of them were from the Iris class.

'I'm guessing that valuable books like the tome of magic spells and so on are stored on the higher floors,' Aiden replied.

'This sucks!

But, it wasn't a tome of magic spells that Aiden was looking for. He was looking for a more specific book, about beast taming and the two magic synchronizations. Aiden needed the information right now.

He walked among the standing shelves, reading the titles on the spine and not seeing a single book that explained about beast taming.

'What the hell is this? They're all books of fairy tales, literature, and novels. What were they thinking exactly?' asked Aiden, complaining.

He decided to take the stairs to the second floor and start looking for the book there. Rather than on the first floor, the second floor held some books related to magic, but they were more about the history and basic theories of magic, not books that specifically explained things.

"This is pointless," Aiden complained.

Not getting what he needed, Aiden slowly left the academy library in disappointment. Still, Aiden wasn't out of ideas.

He still had Allana, the mentor who had become his servant for this year. He was in Iris's second year.

With the library privileges she had, she could definitely help Aiden more. Aiden had to meet with Allana again.

He came to Iris's class dorm and asked about Allana's whereabouts. The guard there said that the girl had gone to practice at the exercise field behind Oak Hill.

Without thinking, Aiden went to the place with about an hour and a half until six in the evening.

There, Aiden faintly heard the sound of an intense magical boom. From behind the Oak tree, he saw Allana practicing with a man, in the same class.

"Control your magic more so you can manipulate it," the man said, and Allana nodded.

Allana's magic was wind magic, she seemed to be trying to manipulate the wind into a wind spear. Yet, she kept failing.

Allana fell down tiredly, her breathing was labored due to the heavy intensity of the training. The man walked over and gave her an MP Potion.

"We're done for today," the man said.

Aiden dared to come out from behind the oak tree, Aiden's presence sparked their attention, especially Allana who stared at Aiden sharply.

"Aiden! What are you doing here?" asked Allana, shocked.

"I was looking for you. I went to the dorms, but you weren't there," Aiden replied.

When Aiden tried to approach Allana, the man stood up to protect her. His attitude made Aiden suspicious.

"Is that the student you told me about, Allana?" the man asked, and Allana cleared her throat in response.

The man smiled with a grin, immediately showing his powerful fire magic aura, stronger than Aiden's. But Aiden hadn't come to fight.

"I came because I need Allana's help. I don't want to fight with you," Aiden replied.

"You're the one who has made Allana ashamed, her pride trampled when she had to become your servant!" the man snapped.

"It was her decision. She challenged me to a bet, she lost it," Aiden replied.

"Don't ever come to Allana again, you wimp!"

"If you insist on coming, I'll kill you!"
