Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: A Woman Like the Wind

He was preparing to go look for Jill. In fact, Aiden had already started looking for Jill a long time ago, but because Raccoon City's communication system had been destroyed by zombies, Aiden, who couldn't contact Jill, could only use this stupidest method to find her.

But after all, Raccoon City is still a city. Although the population is only a little over 100,000, finding someone who can move freely is still a bit difficult. These past few days, Aiden had almost gone around all of Raccoon City, but still hadn't been able to find Jill.

Until today, that is, the 28th, Aiden knew Jill would definitely go near the police station, so he decided to go there and wait first.

But before he could drive far, the car stalled because it ran out of fuel. Annoyed, Aiden kicked the car hard a few times, venting his dissatisfaction.

Just as he was about to find another vehicle, a helicopter suddenly flew over his head.

Aiden had sharp eyes; he saw the U.S.S. logo printed on the helicopter. Just as he was wondering who Umbrella had sent over this time, a sharp pain suddenly struck his brow.

'Someone's pointing a gun at me.'

As soon as a bad feeling rose up, Aiden's body instinctively fell backward. He only heard a dull gunshot. A bullet grazed past his nose and hit the billboard behind him.

"Damn it… a sniper rifle." After falling to the ground, Aiden cursed, using both hands and feet to crawl behind the car, preparing to use the car tires as cover.

But before he could even catch his breath, he heard the sound of wind behind him, accompanied by an angry shout from a woman.

Aiden had no choice but to roll sideways, and then he saw a military machete chop down right where he had just been leaning.

With such force that most of the blade embedded into the surface.

"Damn it, this is really going to kill me!" Still in shock, Aiden cursed again, quickly climbed up from the ground, and took aim with his gun while the woman, whose outfit looked a bit familiar, was still pulling her blade out.

But before he could pull the trigger, another sharp sound of something cutting through the air came from behind. Goosebumps instantly rose all over his body, and the strong sense of danger made him halt his movement. As he turned around, he raised the rifle over his head.

With a clang sound, Aiden's rifle snapped in two. He didn't even have time to be shocked. He tossed away the broken gun, kicked away the blond woman who had raised her blade to slash again, then leapt to the side and began a series of diving rolls.

It wasn't that he didn't want to fight back, but that sharp pain in his brow had started again.

Sure enough, just as he jumped away, a burst of precise gunfire landed where he had just stood, then followed his path with rhythmic shots, pinning him down and not allowing him to stand.

If he hadn't crawled under a bus on the roadside, he figured he'd have had to keep rolling all the way to the end of the street.

It would've absolutely been a sight people would love to see. If social media existed now, those people behind him would probably film it, and everyone would laugh themselves silly at his ridiculous performance.

Catching his breath under the bus, Aiden crawled out from the other side, curled up behind a tire, and pulled out a long gun from his weapon pouch.

No matter what, if you get hit, you have to try fighting back. Standing still is only for when you know you'll lose.

Just then, the sound of footsteps thudded on the top of the bus. Aiden looked up and saw the two women who had attacked him with machetes earlier.

They were still gripping their machetes, clearly enjoying hacking people with blades.

But Aiden wouldn't let them get close again. Although his close-combat skills weren't bad at all, he was wary of the sniper targeting him. It was just too annoying.

So he decisively opened distance, and at the same time, his gun fired.

That round of shots didn't land any hits. Those two women had obviously received more professional training. As soon as they saw Aiden pulling away, they knew what he intended. Before he even fired, they had already jumped down from the other side of the bus roof, just as decisive as he was.

Aiden wasn't surprised at all. Their performance finally made him remember who they were.

Special black combat uniforms, uniform full-face gas masks, and G36Ks hanging from their chests.

These were Umbrella Corporation's special forces—Wolf Pack squad of the U.S.S.

Those two women from earlier, based on their hair colors, Aiden had guessed their identities.

Wolf Mother and Bertha, two extremely fierce women.

Without any hesitation, Aiden immediately chose to flee. He didn't want to get tangled up with these people. Although he still had trump cards left and might not necessarily lose if he fought, those cards were one-time-use only. Using them here would be too much of a waste.

After all, the Raccoon City crisis plot had just begun. There's still a long way to go.

———

Seeing the target escape, the Wolf Pack did not choose to pursue further because their squad wasn't fully assembled yet.

Acting together as a full unit, that was the Wolf Pack's rule.

Of course, the main reason was that Aiden's performance had exceeded their expectations. For once, they had the rare thought that the target was a real problem.

This was something they hadn't encountered before.

"Yes, the target escaped. This guy's not ordinary. He's probably a professional soldier," Wolf Mother opened the communicator and said.

"We know that. Your mission is to capture him, not make excuses," a woman's voice came through the earpiece.

"Understood." Wolf Mother's expression darkened slightly, but she still suppressed her anger and replied.

"As long as you understand." The woman's voice continued, "The new target has also been sent over. Check and receive it."

"Yes." Wolf Mother nodded, then shut off the communicator and fell into thought.

'Four Eyes and the others will be here soon. It seems they ran into some trouble on their side.' After thinking for a while, Wolf Mother said to Bertha and Vector beside her, "So, let's let that kid live a little longer for now."

Vector shrugged indifferently, showing he would go along with whatever Wolf Mother decided, but Bertha, who had just taken a kick from Aiden, said coldly, "Once I find him again, I'm cutting off the leg he kicked me with."

"Do whatever you want." Wolf Mother smiled slightly. Then she added, "But before that, we've got other things to do."

As she spoke, she opened a miniature computer on her wrist, something that didn't match this era. Several portraits appeared on the screen.

They were photos of surviving S.T.A.R.S. members.

"Company orders: find them and kill them," said Wolf Mother.

———

After running for several streets, Aiden finally stopped. Seeing that the Wolf Pack hadn't chased after him, he let out a breath of relief, then walked into a shop that looked relatively safe, planning to rest there for a bit.

After entering the shop, Aiden suddenly felt a bit thirsty, a result of the adrenaline rush earlier.

Looking around, he saw that deeper inside the shop there was a vending machine that wasn't too damaged, and it still had a decent amount of stock inside.

Walking up to the vending machine, Aiden obviously wasn't going to insert coins. He directly smashed it with a rifle butt, completely shattering the already cracked vending machine glass.

After rummaging through the vending machine, Aiden chose a can of cola, his favorite.

Pulling the tab open, Aiden took a big gulp. The fizzy sensation made him grin. Maybe it was the sugar in the cola, but he genuinely felt a bit happier.

While sipping the cola, Aiden began wandering around the shop. Then, to his surprise, he realized he might not be the shop's first visitor today.

Because beside the hot drink machine behind the counter, he saw a cup of coffee.

A half-drunk coffee that was still giving off a little steam.

This discovery sparked his curiosity. 'What kind of person, in a place like this and in this kind of situation, would be in the mood to drink coffee?'

'This person is definitely not ordinary. And they probably haven't left yet,' Aiden thought.

After thinking for a while, Aiden gave up trying to find the person. He'd already been attacked once just by going out today, he wasn't looking for more trouble.

Finishing the rest of the cola in one go, Aiden casually tossed the can and prepared to leave the shop.

But just as he lifted his foot, something unexpected happened. Gunshots suddenly rang out inside the store.

Hearing the gunfire, Aiden instinctively kicked over a vending machine, using it as cover.

Then he peeked in the direction of the gunshots and saw a woman in red running out from the passageway connecting to the storage room.

Seeing this woman in red, Aiden froze, and muttered in disbelief, "How could it be her? No way it's this much of a coincidence?"

Ada Wong.

Aiden hadn't expected to run into that woman here. One of the most popular female characters in the entire Resident Evil series, or rather, the most popular. A woman like the wind.

At this moment, she had already reached the counter, pushed herself up with one hand, and leaped cleanly over, landing half-kneeling right in front of Aiden.

Seeing Aiden, Ada Wong didn't even look surprised. Instead, she casually greeted him, "Hi! Handsome, got a moment?"

"If it's to buy me a coffee, I can maybe spare a little time," Aiden glanced at the cup of coffee, smiling as he replied.

"That's too bad. I usually don't buy coffee for strange men, even if your skin tone feels oddly familiar," Ada replied, then glanced behind her. From the direction she had come, several skinless frog-like creatures were crawling quickly toward them. She turned back and shrugged at Aiden, "But today's an exception. These things are a bit tricky."

Following her gaze, Aiden showed an understanding expression. He now understood why even someone like Ada Wong found them difficult to deal with. It was a group of Lickers.

These bioweapons that loved group attacks, were fast, and had multiple attack methods… Not just Ada Wong, even someone like him would find them a headache.

Aiden didn't waste words either. He shouted, "I don't like black coffee!" and pulled the trigger at the passageway.

Unlike Tyrants, even though Umbrella researchers believed Lickers were an evolved branch of Tyrants, their actual strength was far inferior, including intelligence. So the moment Aiden's gun fired, the Licker leading the charge was shot off the ceiling by a bullet.
