Ada had already said so, so Aiden couldn't continue being polite. He took the canned food and started eating, speaking unclearly with food in his mouth, "My place actually has a lot of food, but in order to carry more weapons, I didn't bring it. Raccoon City is full of stores, so there's no worry about not having food."
This wasn't to cover things up, it was indeed the truth. He just didn't expect it to suddenly rain, which caused him to not have time to get food.
So after Ada heard that, she showed an understanding expression. She had seen Aiden's gun bag, completely full of weapons and ammo, an astonishing amount.
After finishing that half can of food, Aiden finally felt full. Letting out a satisfied breath, and with Ada's permission, he lit a cigarette, smoking while watching the rain outside.
Now the rain was even heavier, and by the looks of it, it would last at least a few more hours.
He started to feel worried about Jill's side. Although he knew Jill probably wouldn't get into trouble, thinking about the Wolf Pack squad he encountered in the morning, he lost confidence again.
'The plot is getting more and more chaotic, even the Wolf Pack from the side story showed up. Could it be that the old and new plots are going to happen at the same time?' Aiden couldn't help but think.
He raised his head and glanced at Ada. This woman was resting with her eyes closed. Seemingly sensing Aiden's gaze, she opened her eyes and looked at him, asking,
"What is it?"
"Nothing." Aiden shook his head. "You continue resting."
It had to be said, Ada was acting a bit too carefree, a little different from the calm, composed, and mysterious woman from the game's story.
'She's not a fake, right?' Aiden carefully examined Ada, but afraid of alerting her, he turned his head to keep watching the rain after just one look.
'She shouldn't be fake. It's not time for Simmons to appear yet. How could there be a fake Ada?'
Mocking himself for being too suspicious, Aiden rested his head on his arm and waited for the rain to stop.
———
Around 3 PM, the rain stopped. There wasn't much to pack, so the two of them went out directly and continued on their way. It was another long walk. Before 5 PM, they finally entered Raccoon City's main urban area.
There, they stopped walking.
Not far ahead of them, gunshots rang out. Out of caution, they found a car to use as cover. Although the gunfire was likely from survivors, being cautious never hurt.
The gunfire didn't last long. After a short burst, it suddenly stopped again.
Aiden stretched his neck to look in the direction the gunshots came from, but the sky had already completely darkened, and most of the streetlights were broken due to the city's damage. Only a few were still working, so he couldn't see far.
"I'll go take a look." After watching for a while, Ada suddenly spoke. Then she raised her gun and stood up from behind the car. Just as she was about to leave, Aiden suddenly reached out, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back.
"What's wrong?" Ada asked. She hadn't seen anything yet.
"Someone is coming." Aiden pointed to the left, his tone a bit heavy.
From Aiden's tone, Ada sensed the seriousness of the situation. She immediately disengaged the safety on her MP5 submachine gun.
Then she asked, "Is it an enemy?"
Aiden shook his head, then nodded again.
Ada immediately frowned and asked, "Can you speak plainly? I'm not good at guessing a man's thoughts."
Aiden stared at that direction and said in a low voice, "See for yourself. They're coming."
Following Aiden's line of sight, Ada also saw them. About 70 to 80 meters away, a man in a Raccoon City police uniform was stumbling as he ran toward them, but after just a few steps, he fell to the ground from his injuries.
Behind the man, another person was following, a woman in black tactical combat gear. Seeing the male cop fall, she slowed down, drew a jungle machete from her waist, and slowly approached him.
Seeing the woman's outfit, Ada muttered in a voice only she could hear, "U.S.S Wolf Pack squad? Why is it them?"
Though she hadn't interacted much with Umbrella's security forces, she'd still heard of this special squad. At the same time, she also understood why Aiden's tone had become so serious.
"You've faced them before?" Ada retracted her head and asked Aiden.
Aiden nodded, "Just before I met you."
"You're quite lucky," Ada commented. She knew the Wolf Pack's combat capabilities well. "You actually survived them."
"You should be praising my skills," Aiden said seriously, dissatisfied with Ada attributing his survival to luck. "I didn't suffer losses back then, and I have the ability to take them out."
"Then why didn't you take them out back then?" Ada thought Aiden was being stubborn and asked in return.
Aiden looked a bit helpless, "Because it would've come at a high cost."
"Really? Just a high cost? Looks like I don't understand you deeply enough." Ada seemed quite surprised.
Aiden turned his gaze back to that side and replied lazily, "If there's a chance, I'll let you get to know me deeply."
This ambiguous reply directly ended the topic. Ada looked at Aiden deeply, as if considering the possibility of that statement.
But that wasn't the main point. A new situation had occurred over there. The police-uniformed man had died, his head blown apart by a shot from the pursuing Wolf Pack squad member.
Then, more people showed up.
It was a six-person armed team. Judging from their uniforms, they were soldiers from Country M (U.S.).
"It's getting livelier," Aiden's expression became quite animated as he saw them appear. He recognized who they were.
Echo Team of Six. Special forces from Country M, also a tough group to deal with.
But compared to the Wolf Pack, at least they were the good guys, because they came to rescue people.
"Can any of you explain this?"
While Aiden was recalling the plot of the Raccoon City operation, a man in khaki military uniform from Echo Team walked toward the Wolf Pack. He was Echo Team's captain—Crispin.
"Killing a cop is a serious crime," he shouted again.
What answered him, however, was a cold gun barrel pressed to his head and a voice at his ear saying, "Try moving again."
Crispin obediently stopped, slightly raised both hands, and looked puzzled, because he didn't see anyone.
Ada also didn't see anyone and asked curiously, "What's he doing?"
"Trying to calm down the person pointing a gun at him," Aiden answered with a frown.
"But I didn't see anyone aiming a gun at him." Ada glanced at the rest of the Wolf Pack squad. Though they all had weapons, none were moving. She didn't know Umbrella had stealth suit technology.
Aiden thought for a moment and didn't know how to explain. Fortunately, Crispin's next move explained it for him.
As a veteran with many years of service, Crispin quickly regained composure after a brief daze. He counterattacked immediately—tilting his head back to dodge the fatal shot that came almost simultaneously, then used his right hand, still holding the M4, to swing to the right. The solid feeling told him he had successfully deflected the opponent's gun, so he fired back in that direction.
Bang!
The bullet revealed a person at the impact point. It was Wolf Pack squad member Victor, codenamed "Ninja."
Victor wore a special combat suit with surprisingly good defense. That shot didn't hurt him, but he still chose to retreat. After a few rolls, he hid behind a car and returned fire.
At the same time, the rest of the Echo Team and Wolf Pack began exchanging fire.
In an instant, bullets flew everywhere in that area, explosions followed, and the scene became extremely chaotic.
"Looks like we won't be able to get through for now." Watching the fierce battlefield, Ada felt a bit of a headache. She was in a hurry.
"Should we take a detour?" she asked.
Aiden surveyed the surrounding roads, then shook his head, "I'm afraid not."
"Then let's just watch for now," Ada said. "This is way more exciting than a gunfight movie."
"Agreed," Aiden replied, fully in support of that statement.
Both sides were elite forces. Whether in tactics or skill, they were truly a joy to watch. Even the most realistic action films couldn't compare to this one bit.
The intensity of this "movie" got a bit out of hand. Quite a few outside "spectators" joined in, becoming background extras to highlight the two teams' strength.
They were zombies, attracted by the noise.
To ordinary people, zombies were a deadly threat. But to the Wolf Pack and Echo Team, they were way too weak. Any zombies that got close were easily killed.
Some unlucky ones even got used as meat shields to block incoming bullets.
However, as time passed, more and more zombies were drawn in, densely packing most of the street, now forming an actual threat.
Fortunately, Aiden and Ada had picked a good spot. The zombies didn't notice them, making them the only human spectators at the scene.
"What a shame," Aiden suddenly muttered.
Ada looked at him and asked, confused, "Shame about what?"
"Such a good 'movie,' but we don't have cola and popcorn in our hands." Aiden glanced at the gun in his hand, then added, "We didn't even buy a ticket. I hope they won't mind."
"Want me to go ask them what they think?" Ada said with a smirk.
Aiden shook his head, "Forget it. Sneaking into a movie once in a while is also a kind of fun."
