Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Duties Begins

"Gentlemen, we won't be able to proffer solutions with the constant back and forth, for now, all we have to do is to conduct a thorough investigation," Bryce's voice restored peace to the meeting hall, with the Elders paying attention to him.

"And also, we need to offer consolation to the families of the guards who lost their lives protecting our pack," Bryce had a heavy expression on his face while talking about the guards.

If there was one thing a leader hated, then it would be losing their followers. It always saddens them if they lose someone who gave their all to the protection of the community.

"I'd need two Elders to volunteer to visit the guards' families, and please, let them know that I, the Alpha would bring justice to the deceased," Bryce declared, his eyes on Scott who felt uncomfortable.

After a few minutes, the meeting rounded up, and they all departed, each to fulfill the tasks assigned to them.

Marissa retired to the room, trying to fully regain her strength, after being tired out by Bryce the previous night.

Bryce, Gray and Damien, on the other hand, walked to a discreet underground, one only known to them.

"Brother, why did you call us here?" Gray asked, taking his seat on the sofa.

"I want us to investigate this matter personally," Bryce replied while rubbing his forehead with a tired expression.

"I'm always ready, but I have one question, what does the mastermind stand to gain by killing those guards, they did nothing wrong, did they?" Gray asked, feeling confused by the entire situation.

"To cause chaos," Bryce replied simply.

"Chaos?" Damien asked, not understanding what Bryce was talking about.

"Hmm, to cause unrest among the people, and blame it on Marissa's presence in the pack," Bryce analyzed.

"But who would be so wicked to do such ---- oh, Elder Scott," Gray came to a realisation at once.

"Correct, but we don't have evidence, so it is still a suspicion at this point, we need to prove that Scott is behind this," Bryce stated.

"Honestly, I wouldn't doubt it if someone said he is the one behind it, I wonder why he hates Marissa, he hasn't seen Marissa before, or has he?" Gray felt extremely perplexed at the entire situation.

"Well, I believe he is doing this for Eliana's sake," Damien replied, his words hitting the nail right on the mark.

"Just wait, you would hear some rumours, and it would be spread by him, but before he gets the chance, we need to gather evidence," Bryce said while looking out the window.

"But how do we pull it off?" Damien asked.

Bryce turned to look at them with a mysterious smile and mischievous glint in his eyes while saying, "you'll find out tonight."

Gray and Damien exchanged glances, wondering what Bryce was up to. Nevertheless, they decided to place their trust in him. After all, he had never done anything which could harm them.

Meanwhile, Marissa was dragged from her room by Leah to perform her Luna duties.

Leah was the one who Bryce prepared to train Marissa. Not only was she skilled in combat, she was also knowledgeable in matters concerning the pack.

Leah was also one of the ladies who served Bryce's mother before she passed away, making her the best person to put Marissa through.

She stared at the amount of documents on her table while scratching her hair awkwardly.

"Are you sure I am to attend to all these?" Marissa asked, trying to confirm that she was to go through all of it.

"Of course, these documents concern all the ladies in the pack, previously, we didn't have a Luna, thus, the Alpha was the one who handled it," Leah started with a nostalgic smile.

Marissa looked at Leah, paying utmost attention to her. She wanted to know what Bryce passed through before he finally found his mate.

"But one could see that he was exhausted from having to handle pack duties, and also office duties, this was the reason I decided to help him with matters concerning the ladies of the pack," she paused, nodding satisfactorily after noticing that Marissa was paying close attention to her.

"This is why I am glad he found his mate which is you, as Luna, your job is to support your mate, I believe you understand what I mean," Leah explained, and Marissa nodded.

"Good, most of the cases are trivial matters between women, you should be able to make the right decision as every decision you make will directly impact the pack," Leah continued with her teaching with Marissa taking notes seriously.

"Wait a minute, have we started training?" Marissa asked.

Leah raised her eyebrows to her question while giving her a reply, "what do you think?"

Marissa chuckled nervously.

"Well, let's carry on, teacher," Marissa joked, and Leah stared at her pointedly.

Marissa only gave her a smile, but she was crying internally.

"Let's take this case for an example, it's between a lady named Alyssa and another named Anna," Leah picked out a document, and handed it over to Marissa.

Marissa took the document while feeling confused. She looked at Leah, unsure of what she was to do.

"Study the case, and think about the best solution, I'm giving you two minutes to think about it," Leah instructed, and instantly took a seat while observing Marissa.

Marissa seriously studied the case, and with each line she read, she frowned.

The case was simply between two best friends. It stated that Anna was already mated to a man, but her mate turned around and slept with her best friend, Alyssa.

Anna finds out, and she wants justice. But the man and Alyssa claim that Anna was the one who came in between them, and she wasn't the original mate.

Now, they claimed Anna was deranged, and requested for her to be thrown out of the pack as she could be dangerous.

Leah watched as Marissa's brows creased while reading the document, and she nodded. She had intentionally given such a difficult case to Marissa.

She was aware that Marissa had a lot of potential, and she wanted her to explore this potential.

"Time is up, what have you decided?" Leah's voice caused Marissa to raise her head up.

"I have thought about the best solution, firstly we need to confirm if Anna is lying or not, so I decided that we invite them here, have them transform to their wolves, I believe Sam's wolf would be able to recognize who its wolf is."

Marissa explained. Leah nodded, pleased with her thoughts.

"But what if Anna has been rejected by Sam?" Leah asked with her hands folded. She wanted to know what Marissa's plan B would be.
