Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Heat Rising

The dance floor pulsed with red and violet light, bodies moving in a blur of rhythm and sweat. May was in the center of it all—hips rolling, arms raised, eyes closed. She moved like she owned the night, sensual and untouchable.

Shane stood at the edge of the crowd, watching.

No—devouring her.

The way May's body moved wasn't just dancing. It was a promise. A dare. A whisper of what it would feel like to have her wrapped around you, breathless and begging. And May knew exactly what she was doing. Her eyes flicked open, locking onto Shane again. That smile returned—dangerous, knowing.

She wanted to be chased.

Shane didn't chase. But tonight, something inside her snapped.

Pushing through the crowd, she closed the space between them, slipping behind May like a shadow. Her hands didn't touch—yet. But her presence was unmistakable. Heat radiated off her. Possessive. Wild. Magnetic.

May leaned back into her, her body aligning with Shane's like they'd done this a hundred times before.

"You're here," May said, barely above the music.

"You made it hard not to be."

Shane's voice was low, rough, like a growl in May's ear. Her hands found May's hips, fingers gripping just enough to feel the give of her skin through the thin fabric of her dress. They moved together, slow and intense, the world around them melting away.

"Is this the part where you pretend you don't want me?" May asked, teasing, her lips ghosting over Shane's jaw.

Shane's response was a sharp inhale, her control slipping. She turned May to face her, their bodies pressed together now, nothing innocent between them.

"I don't pretend," Shane said. "If I wanted you... you'd know it."

May's hands slid under Shane's jacket, tugging her closer. "Then show me."

And Shane did.

She kissed her—hard, hungry, no hesitation. Their mouths collided with a fire neither of them expected, but both had craved. May moaned into her, fingers tangling in Shane's hair, nails scraping her scalp. Shane's hands gripped May's waist, then lower, pulling her tighter until there was no space left between them.

The kiss was raw, a battle for control and surrender.

People danced around them, oblivious, but Shane only felt May—her taste, her heat, the way her body arched against hers like she was already begging for more.

When they finally broke apart, both breathless, May grinned. "So much for not believing in love."

Shane's eyes burned into her. "This isn't love."

May stepped back slowly, brushing her fingers across Shane's lips. "No. But it's a start."

Then she disappeared into the crowd again, leaving Shane there—wanting.

And for the first time in a long time, needing.
