Kifune opened the system panel and saw something that looked like a super-thin human skin mask. It was so thin it could've been mistaken for a cicada's wing. He checked the item description:
[Name: Huoshi's Obsession]
[Description: A Chunin from Iwagakure who snuck into Konoha at age eight and spent 23 years away from home. All he wanted was to see his village one last time.]
[Effect: Wearing this gives you +2 finesse, lets you adjust your facial features, and has 5 uses left.]
[Note: The dead are gone, but their souls want to go home. Huoshi wishes to be buried in the Land of Earth.]
Kifune read the description and fell silent. He reached for his pocket, hesitated, and decided not to light a cigarette. Instead, he turned to Huoshi's body and said seriously, "If I get the chance, I'll send you back to the Land of Earth."
Sure, they might've been on opposite sides in life, but death changes things. Dust to dust, earth to earth, and all that.
As for the mask, it made sense. Huoshi was a master of disguise and had been lurking in Konoha for 23 years. This thing was perfect for Kifune—no chakra fluctuations, no risk of being spotted by sensory ninjas or the Hyuga clan's Byakugan. It wasn't perfect, but it was way better than nothing.
With that settled, Kifune moved on to his next "loot box." The system pinged:

Without thinking, he slapped it on himself.

Now, it was time for the main event: the red corpse. The one he'd been waiting for. The one with a 15% success rate. Kifune took a deep breath and placed his hand on it.

This was it. The moment of truth. Time to test his luck.

Chapter 8: "The Luck of the Draw: Kifune, the European Emperor"

Kifune stared at the bright red "Fail" notification and took a deep breath. "Stay calm," he told himself. "A 15% success rate means failure is normal. This is just probability. And maybe a little bit of my terrible luck."
He crouched next to the corpse and started negotiating. "Hey, buddy. How about this? If I get the chance, I'll send your body back to the Land of Earth too. If Konoha lets me, of course. Deal?"
He spent the next ten minutes sweet-talking the corpse like it was a stubborn vending machine. Finally, he wiped his sweaty palms and tried again.
[Success! Obtained Iwagakure Quasi-Kage Akagi Tsukasa Experience Card (Rare)!]
Kifune nearly jumped out of his skin. "Yes! Thank you, Buddha! Thank you, God! Thank you, Sage of the Six Paths!"
This was huge. He'd used a Jonin experience card earlier and now got a Quasi-Kage card in return. Plus, he'd scored Huoshi's Obsession and a +2 attribute boost. This wasn't just breaking even—this was a jackpot!
"Respect the corpse, and the corpse respects you," Kifune thought, nodding sagely. "This is the way."
He was on such a high that he decided to go for the third attempt. Why not? He'd already won big.
[Success! Obtained Earth Attribute Chakra Amplification Card!]
Kifune blinked. "Wait, what? Two successes in a row with a 15% chance?!" He grinned like a kid who'd just found out school was canceled. "Who else but me? The European Emperor!"
He checked the new card's description:
[Name: Earth Attribute Chakra Amplification Card]
[Description: A ninja stuck with just one chakra attribute? Boring. Time to expand your horizons!]
Kifune couldn't stop smiling. "This is it. This is the life. Respect the corpses, and they'll hook you up."
