Chapter 27 - Bussiness

Adam awoke to find the futon dripping, the moisture clinging to his face… ack, 'cough' yuck… it was already morning, and everyone had ventured outside, leaving him behind. He rose and got out of the futon and looked up a cracked of concrete at the ceiling, dripping with water

stepping outside, the sound of weeping reached my ears, prompting me to glance downward… sigh.

Then, a voice emerged, belonging to a man named Simon. "I see you've survived, Adam," he remarked with a smile. His complexion was pale, and a yellowish-gray hue adorned his skin. How had he managed to endure the harsh winter?

I returned his smile, filled with gratitude. "So have you."

A significant portion of the population had been decimated, particularly the elderly and the frail, succumbing to illness. I could only stand by and observe the unfolding tragedy, powerless to intervene…

Looking up, I noticed the children still playing outside, my eyes widening with wonder and delight… was this truly normal? or is this normal for them... this is making me feel bland...

I walked along, and Kineki, noticing my presence, trailed behind me. "Where are you going, Mr. Adam?" he exclaimed. Sigh. This kid still keeps in addressing me that way. "Hey, you can simply call me Adam, you know."

As I navigated around the winter puddles, the air began to warm, causing the remnants of snow that had ensnared us in the cold grip of winter to melt away. It truly is a remarkable transformation; the fireflies have emerged from their cocoons, im curious is there are any living thing that humans didnt cultivate that is alive right now..

After several hours of gathering information, I learned that Elben, the mayor of the tower, had succumbed to the harshness of winter. I found myself in the grand hall, alone, when I spotted a short-haired girl weeping and sobbing beside the lord. Sigh. Everyone has families, after all.

She regarded me with a stern expression. "Who are you?"

"We contemplated presenting a proposal to the mayor…" -_- this is awkward; man i want to leave this is extremely uncomfortable

She rose, clad in a military uniform, her head with a fiber helmet.

"No, I recognize you. You're the individual my father spoke of a few weeks ago, and the one who survived an automaton attack twice. I will permit it; I know we require it. My father was foolish; no one can comes back from the dead and no one will remember those who have passed."

So that's that! No bizarre arguments or confrontations… sigh, I'm weary; this sweltering weather is making me feel weird. As we exited, we encountered the same guard, who waved at us. " ha! I suppose you survived."

"So did you," I replied.

The air was thick with smoke, thanks to his fricking ciggerate and I coughed, ugh. Kineki glanced at him with an annoying look. "Adam, can we leave now?"

The guard looked at Kineki. "Yeah, yeah… I'm just informing Adam. I saw if you still want to leave the town, you should do so sooner rather than later. The automatons have been temporarily weaken by the winter… well by this month."

"I'll take that into consideration."

"And also… there's a hidden structure on the outskirts. We recently discovered it within the wired perimeter; it was underground, after all. It's peculiar—every soldier who enters that sanctuary never returns. Just thought I'd mention it," he smirked. "You're different."

This guy… does he believe I'm immortal or something? does he want me to die or something

We walked away. Kineki inquired, "Was there anyone who returned from the dead?"

adam thought "Well I know one…"

Time passed…

"Adam, are you ready?!" he grinned mischievously, connecting the generator to the windmill. As the windmill spun in the breeze, the generator whirred to life, producing electric induction and channeling electricity through the wires.

"3! 2! 1! Go…" Adam activated the energy system, while Yoku prepared to pull him out if anything went awry, illuminating the entire town. The light blazed brilliantly, igniting the wires momentarily.

He hoisted me atop the windmill, and as I gazed up at the ceiling, I saw the townspeople in awe. This was indeed something extraordinary—the light radiated, illuminating the town, as every machine sprang to life, thanks to Yoku's remarkable invention.

I finally settled down, donning a pair of sunglasses—well, they were goggle lenses—feeling rather like a businessman, as the profits from this endeavor would flow directly into our pockets and benefit the town.

"Finally," Adam muttered; he was engaged in something meaningful after all, and this kind of progress always brought him joy, reminiscent of when he witnessed his eloquence rising at the age of sixteen, only to later decline.

Like chess such statistics consistently fueled his motivation. well the exception of wanting to smash his phone on the ground if it dipped.

Back to the trading business

Many individuals have gathered , prompted by the government's promotion of gadgets and equipment from Adam Electric Company. Yuri was exceedingly occupied, meticulously calculating the cash flow of numerous customers, as they finally embraced us as part of their community. Many were endeavoring to locate their possessions, implementing an alternative currency system rather than relying on barter for resources and equipment.

The crowd surged against one another, leading to a confrontation between two women arguing over who would purchase a thermal blanket. "Hey! This is mine!"

"No, I claimed it first, you hag!"

Yuri was profoundly irritated. "Hey! If anyone wants a fight, take it outside… or else you'll be banned!"

There were gadgets manufactured by Yoku, but only ten items were available on the shelves, including a scrap weapon that discharged metallic projectiles at a target.

Kineki and Mino were assisting as well, or rather, were compelled by Yuri to learn about this stuffs.

On the opposite side of the market, an individual slammed against a table, as the purchasing of equipment parts and gadgets was significantly slowing down.

A girl with yellow hair and blue eyes, slightly taller than the average woman, donned gray striped hoodie and black leather pants.

Beside her stood a boy with medium-length hair that entirely obscured his eyes, who was nervously and silently ruminating on something. He wore a leather coat over a black shirt, leather pants, and substantial boots.

With a sigh, the girl remarked as she munched on some modified bread developed from their business, "Sigh, what do we do?" munch… munch "If this continues, Adam's business will expand unchecked, completely disregarding us. Sigh, there are only a handful of customers, and he's monopolizing all of it."

The boy, with a soft voice and a cough, replied, "Well, this is entirely normal. If a product is superior to yours, it will naturally be embraced by the populace; we just haven't come to terms with it yet."

They were utterly perplexed, uncertain of their next steps. After all, no one had considered the implications, as everything had been proceeding smoothly according to their standards, with only average individuals engaging in business and failing.

Some of the brilliance had been eclipsed by them… The Gray Scan Company…
