As the last rays of sunlight fade from the sky, a teenage boy sat alone on the rooftop of Comerica Park Stadium. He is dressed in tattered black clothes, and his face looked tired. His grey eyes were filled with a mix of tiredness and boredom.
The boy's name is JACOB, and he is the one who spent almost his entire night hunting Monsters. Monsters that feed on human flesh, and they have been terrorizing the city of Detroit for as long as he can remember. He lost everything to these dark creatures. His family, his home, his old life... they are all gone. But Jacob is not giving up. He is determined to fight the shadowy creatures and protect the innocent.
He remembers how it all started, oh yes he does, he remembers it as if it happened yesterday. He remembers his seventh birthday with his parents, he remembered the night when a creature tall and strong came inside their house, it made a grab for him. But his father came rushing in, with such speed and ferocity he cut off the creature's arm. But he doesn't remember how it ended, apparently he was knocked out cold. But he does remember the funeral, ever since that day he had been from foster home to foster home.
His foster parents didn't like him; he was the weird one. He'd tell them that he saw a creature but they didn't listen to him. He can't blame them of course; normal people won't be able to see them until they're really close. He discovered his powers at the age of ten, then at fifteen he decided to leave foster care and hunt down monsters, it's a tough life he had to admit, fighting monsters, leaving on streets, thinking of what his next meal could be. It's not like he doesn't have money; he gets a lot of it…from pickpocketing of course.
Jacob took a last bite of his half-eaten pretzel and looks out over the city. The streets below were dark and empty; he was waiting for the monsters to appear. They mostly appear in the dark. They sometimes appear in the day but, that's rare. Probably because it'll be easier for them if it's at night, lots of shadows to crawl out of. They're masters of stealth.
Jacob's stomach lurched, a dark shadowy creature, nearby. He licks the remains of his pretzel and stands up. He took a deep breath and jumped down from the rooftop. Landing on the ground with a soft thud and started to walking towards the nearest creature.
