Chapter 3 - A man...hybrid?

Jacob walked through the dark and empty park, his senses on high alert. He just defeated another creature, but he knows that there are still more of them out there.

Suddenly, Jacob saw a man limping towards him. He looks like he is in pain. Jacob's instincts tell him that something is wrong, but he can't ignore the man's pleas for help. He walked over to the man and knelt down beside him.

"You okay?"

"Make it stop," the man muttered, "They didn't tell me it'll be like this...make it stop!"

Confused Jacob asked, "what are you saying? Who are they? Why are you-"

The man looks up at Jacob with black eyes. Jacob jumped back in surprise, his dagger ready. This is no ordinary man; he is not a man at all. Shadows leaked from his eyes, nose, and ears, enveloping his whole body, when those shadows lifted, his skin had turned pale and lifeless. His claws grew long and sharp, and his teeth became crooked but sharp. His muscles have gotten bigger. This is no ordinary man alright, not even an ordinary monster. But before Jacob could react, the hybrid turned away from him and leaped into the sky. Jacob watched in shock as the man-hybrid disappeared into the darkness. He didn't know what to make of what he had just seen.

Why had the man-hybrid ignored him? Why had it leaped into the sky? Jacob didn't know, but he had a bad feeling about this. He knew that hybrid guy was up to something, and he was determined to find out what it was. He sprinted after it, running faster than the average boy his age. Jacob saw him leaping from building to building, and he knew that he had to catch up. Jacob lowered his hands, and purple flames burst out. He was propelled into the air, and he landed on the roof of a nearby building. He looked around and saw the hybrid leaping towards another building. He took a deep breath and ran towards the edge of the roof. He jumped into the air and flew towards the him.

The monster man saw Jacob coming and turned to face him. He roared and charged at him. They both collided in the air in a burst of purple fire, the hybrid was knocked backwards and Jacob was on his feet. He got up and charged at Jacob again. Jacob dodged the monster's attack and struck it with a blast of purple flames. The hybrid roared in pain and stumbled backwards.

Jacob and the hybrid fought only for a short time. Then, just as Jacob went in for the kill with his black dagger, the hybrid outstretched his hand and a wave of shadows hit Jacob. Jacob was knocked off his feet and sent flying backwards. He landed on the edge of the roof, dangling precariously over the side. The creature left him there, obviously he had another target. Jacob pulled himself up and ran after him, leaping from building to building. He was determined to stop this creature, he...no wait, it has to be stopped no matter what. He followed it for several blocks, and finally, he saw where man-hybrid was headed: The Detroit Opera House.

Jacob knew that the opera house was full of people. If the monster man got inside, it would be a bloodbath. And besides, other people don't know about the existence of these creatures, for some reason he suspects the government knows about then but keeps it a secret. He couldn't afford an exposure. Jacob ran even faster, and he finally caught up to it standing on the roof of the opera house. Jacob jumped in front of the creature and drew his black dagger.

"Stop!" he shouted.

The creature turned and looked at Jacob. It roared and charged at him. Jacob dodged the creature's attack and struck it with his dagger. It roared in pain and stumbled backwards. Jacob went in for the kill, but to his surprise the monster man was faking it, it grabbed Jacob then hurtled him in the air. Then it wrapped Jacob in shadows in midair, then sent him crashing through the roof. He landed inside the lobby with a sickening thud, and pain exploded in his body. His bones felt like they were broken, and his muscles were screaming in agony. He tried to get up, but he couldn't move. The man-hybrid once again ignored him and headed for the auditorium.

The people gathered there saw it with a mixture of uneasiness and confusion, a moment of silence dragged itself by as the people watched. The humanoid creature roared then, like a cobra striking, it beheaded the security guard beside him, everybody started screaming, pushing each other to get out of the other side. Jacob was trying his best to get past people to get in the auditorium, a man saw him.

"Hey!" he shouted. "Hey kid, get back here, the exit's this way!"

Jacob ignored him and continued pushing through.

By the time Jacob went in the auditorium, the man-hybrid already killed a dozen people. Angry, he ran towards it. There was a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Jacob knew that if he could drop the chandelier on the man hybrid...it might work. Jacob ran to the chandelier and threw purple fire. The chandelier began to fall. The man-hybrid understood Jacob's attempt, dodging the chandelier completely, then went straight toward Jacob. Jacob met the creature head-on, they both collided, claws against dagger, they continued like this in a brutal dance, their hands were more of a blur. Finally, Jacob saw an opening, he kicked the hybrid on the knee then opened his palm, sending a burst of purple fire at the creature's face. It shrieked and stumbled back, Jacob went in for the kill. But the monster man wasn't done yet, shadows erupted from its hands and whipped at Jacob like tentacles, tearing his skin.

It wasn't finished with Jacob, it gripped Jacob's left arm, breaking it. Then threw Jacob to the stage. Jacob looked up and saw the monster man standing over him. It was even bigger and more terrifying than he had imagined. It roared and raised its claws to strike. Jacob closed his eyes and waited for the end.

But something happened, he suddenly felt a huge power coursing through his body, he rested his palm on the monster man's chest and blasted it off its feet. Jacob was suddenly standing, his deep purple eyes scanning the area. The monster man managed to get back at its feet and looked at Jacob, it felt a great yet sinister energy emanating from him. The creature hesitated, then charged. The creature lunged, but missed. Jacob was no longer there, instead Jacob was on the roof outside. His posture had changed, his form no longer bearing the familiar contours of his human self. It was as if a subconscious entity had seized control, an entity that had been dormant, waiting for its moment to emerge. The monster man, its claws extended, lunged from the shadows behind Jacob. But its aim was futile. Jacob's reflexes, now heightened beyond human comprehension, allowed him to evade the attack with effortless precision.

A sinister smirk played across Jacob's lips as he toyed with his adversary. The hybrid's clawing and snarling became a mere annoyance, as Jacob danced around the creature's desperate attempts to harm him. He became a master of mockery.

Jacob's eyes blazed with an otherworldly intensity as he unleashed a torrent of violet flames upon the hybrid. The flames danced and writhed around his body, forming a protective barrier that incinerated anything that dared to touch it. With a surge of adrenaline, Jacob launched himself into the air, his fist crackling with purple energy. He connected with the creature's jaw with an uppercut, sending him hurtling skyward. Jacob wasted no time in pursuing his airborne adversary. His body surged with an unnatural lightness, and he took flight, closing the distance between them with alarming speed. Seizing the now dazed monster by the head, he soared even higher into the sky. As they reached the apex of their ascent, Jacob tightened his grip, he looked at the creature in the eyes, those terrible eyes.

"Was this the creature that nearly killed me?"He asked himself.

The hybrid responded with a strained growl

"Pathetic," he said.

He took one last look at the hybrid with his deep purple eyes. He smirked and unleashed a cataclysmic burst of purple flame. The creature erupted in a blinding explosion, its screams swallowed by the deafening roar of the inferno. The night sky turned an ethereal shade of violet as the flames illuminated the heavens. Below, the people of the city watched in awe and confusion, their eyes fixed upon the bright purple sky.

When the flames finally subsided, only a faint wisp of smoke remained, a testament to the destructive power that Jacob now wielded. The creature had been reduced to nothingness, its malevolent presence extinguished forever. Jacob slowly descended to a floor of a nearby building, his gaze sweeping across the sprawling metropolis below, he can see police vehicles and ambulances rushing to the Opera house. The city lights twinkled like a thousand distant stars, casting an ethereal glow upon the urban landscape. "Is this really all worth saving?" He asked himself, "yes" said a voice inside his head. It was Jacob's voice. Now it was Jacob's other personality that was in charge. Then a dark thought crossed his mind. "Why wouldn't I destroy it all?" He asked himself.

"No," said Jacob's voice. The other Jacob smiled to himself.

"One day," he said to himself.

With one last glimpse of the city, he let go of the control and turned dormant. Jacob's eyes turned back to how they were as Jacob took over. He took a moment to thank his other self for healing him completely; having been exhausted too much he fainted.
