Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Demon King and the Hero's Descendant

Using his advanced mind-reading abilities, Luo Qi could easily delve into the inner thoughts of this girl and extract the information hidden in her subconscious.

Even though the girl seemed to be carrying a very high-level magical artifact meant for defense against mind-reading magic, unfortunately for her, Luo Qi's mind-reading abilities were far superior to any external method. So, to him, this artifact was nothing more than a decoration. The girl's innermost thoughts were already completely exposed to him.

From the quality of this magical artifact alone, it was clear that this girl's identity was far from ordinary. Such items, if they were to be auctioned on the market, would likely start at a seven-figure price, and they were in high demand. High-profile figures carried such magical tools everywhere they went, taking precautions against being read or exposed.

So even if this girl wasn't truly a hero's descendant, just one of her magical tools alone would be worth a fortune. And yet, here she was, undeniably the next heir of the Zhao family, a true descendant of the legendary heroes.

The fact that such an important person had transferred to this ordinary public school was almost too surreal for Luo Qi to believe. Was he really not dreaming? Weren't transfer students supposed to be ordinary?

How is it that every time he gets involved, these transfer students are anything but ordinary!? No, it should be said—completely abnormal! Next, they might have to transfer in a saintess from the Saintess Church just to compare with Zhao Shishi!

"Ugh…" With that thought, Luo Qi sighed deeply, realizing that his life as an ordinary student might be slipping away. The real reason this girl was here was completely aimed at him. No, rather, she was completely focused on the Demon King! Thankfully, his identity had not been exposed yet—this was the only piece of luck he had.

According to the information he gleaned from his mind-reading, the girl seemed particularly interested in the situation at this school. She had been monitoring the school for some time, and the lightning strike from yesterday had convinced her that she needed to come inside and investigate thoroughly.

The magical fluctuations recorded here, especially the exaggerated magical lightning from yesterday, seemed suspiciously similar to the energy left behind by the Demon King. While no definitive conclusions had been reached, there was a possibility that these were just magical items related to the Demon King being used by some students. However, as a descendant of the hero, she would never overlook any potential signs of the Demon King's revival.

Luo Qi couldn't help but sigh. "This world really is more complicated than I thought…" He used magic with no malice or selfish desires. After all, if he had wanted anything for personal gain, he wouldn't be an ordinary student anymore.

He had used magic only to prevent disasters or solve problems for others, but it had ended up becoming the breakthrough the Zhao family was using to track down the Demon King.

Could a peace-loving Demon King like him really survive?

However, if it was this young lady, perhaps there would be many situations where he wouldn't need to intervene. From Luo Qi's observations, in terms of combat abilities, Zhao Shishi was definitely one of the top talents among people her age. After all, this was a world where bloodline inheritance mattered.

Even someone like Dylan, with his fallen knight lineage, had undeniable talent in the knightly arts… though becoming a knight now required a lot of money. Given his family's situation, he might as well just go to bed earlier.

"Hmm? Why is that boy sighing? Does he have a problem with me?"

"???"

Luo Qi was taken aback when he realized that his sigh had attracted Zhao Shishi's attention. From his mind-reading abilities, he could tell that her guard against him had skyrocketed.

Is she seriously this sensitive? And also... Old lady? That's not a way a young lady would refer to herself! She's giving off more of a delinquent vibe than a proper young lady...

"Hmm? No magical fluctuations at all… very ordinary… but… maybe I can use him as a breakthrough point?" Zhao Shishi's thoughts were transmitted directly into Luo Qi's mind through his mind-reading ability.

"…Huh? Why would 'ordinary' be a breakthrough point?" Luo Qi was even more baffled. He couldn't quite figure out this young lady's thought process.

But, Luo Qi remained calm. If this young lady really wanted to find a breakthrough through him, then she was practically at his mercy, right? He could easily lead her towards Benjamin or someone else and solve the problem.

In the end, he might become the person she would least suspect. And credit where credit's due, the power-suppressing device that Luo Lin had made for her was truly perfect. It even masked his own magical fluctuations very well.

"Well… it looks like there's only space in the back rows of the classroom… how about I have you sit at the back for now?" At this moment, the atmosphere was growing awkward. Most of the students were still in a daze, trying to process everything. To break the silence, the class teacher, Mr. Zhou, spoke up.

"Well… about that…" Zhao Shishi walked straight to the front and made her way to Karls.

"Excuse me, could you please move your seat?" Zhao Shishi asked with a smile.

"Huh?" Karls had been fantasizing about this princess-like girl coming over to talk to him, but her words were completely different from what he had imagined!

"You really thought your fantasy would come true?" Luo Qi shook his head in exasperation. Through his mind-reading abilities, he learned that Karls, the recovering chuunibyou, had just been imagining that this young lady would come over and confess her feelings to him!

At least, before Zhao Shishi spoke, his fantasy had been fulfilled halfway!

"I actually prefer this seat," Zhao Shishi replied with a smile. In her mind, she thought that this position at the back of the classroom, though near the middle, would allow her to monitor most of the students in front. Based on the data she had collected, most incidents had occurred during class hours, so no matter what, she needed to start her investigation here and find a breakthrough.

Preventing the Demon King's revival was her family's biggest task right now! It was also their family's mission.
