The whole wood was silent, all eyes on me and I lowered my head, avoiding Damon's gaze. In my defense, I'd thought he was an assassin sent by Tony to me. He was standing there about to inject a strange liquid into my blood. What was I supposed to think?
"I apologize for what just happened, Dr. Grey," he said.
"You didn't pay me enough to get killed, Mr. Walker," he said in a hoarse voice.
"Of course. I'll double the check for all the troubles," Damon said.
Dr. Grey cleared his throat as he considered the offer, and glanced at me carefully.
"Double?" his eyes widened.
He cleared his throat. "I suppose it's all forgotten then," he said.
I squinted my eyes and he shifted back. Damon walked over to me and touched my face gently.
"Are you okay?" he asked, worriedly.
I tore my gaze from the doctor and stared at him. His eyebrows were furrowed and there were bags under his eyes.
"I'm okay," I assured him.
He caressed my chin. "You scared me there."
"I'm sorry."
