Just as Jiang Yu raised her arm to slap him, she flinched instinctively.
She couldn't help but give a bitter smile—she'd been hit by Jiang Yu too many times.
When she looked up, she saw a figure standing in front of her. Her heart trembled as she stared blankly at Niley.
"You were the one who hurt me last night, and now you don't even dare to admit it!"
Seeing Niley standing protectively in front of Jiang Mier, Jiang Yu didn't dare move forward. The pain from her broken arm last night was still vivid in her memory, constantly reminding her to stay away from Niley.
Stay away...
She swallowed hard and lowered her shoulders, ready to back off.
Jiang Lan had already disliked Jiang Yu's attitude since this morning. After the huge scene yesterday, now she was crying and whining again. As a grown woman, she never thought about how to earn money for the family, only fixating on the bit of money her husband and son had.
Jiang Lan had talked until her mouth was dry, but Jiang Yu never changed her ways.
Now, another mess. Her patience had run out. "Jiang Yu, I've put up with you long enough."
"V-Village Chief, everything I said is true!"
Seeing that no one believed her, Jiang Yu's eyes widened in shock.
"Who would break their own arm just to scam someone?"
"Didn't Mother pretend to be sick and have amnesia before, just to get money from big brother?"
Just as some people started to waver, Jiang Mier suddenly spoke up.
"My son is right. His mother once pretended to change her ways to trick us into giving her money. This time, it's probably the same."
Seeing both husband and son saying this, the crowd began whispering among themselves.
Niley stood there silently. She didn't want to disappoint Jiang Mier, who had spoken up for her.
Jiang Lan saw that Jiang Yu was still stubborn and just shook her head calmly before turning to leave.
Once the village chief left, everyone quickly dispersed too. Some busybodies scolded Jiang Yu before leaving, but she cursed back at them, pointing at their noses.
Now no one dared go near her, all backing away.
Jiang Qing, seeing the village chief leave, didn't dare stay either. He was afraid Jiang Yu would cling to him next.
Once everyone left, even though Jiang Yu was scared, she still gathered her courage and looked at Niley. Last night had been too dark; she hadn't seen clearly how Niley broke her arm. So now, her expression was complicated as she stared.
"What? Not leaving? Do you want me to break your other arm too?"
Seeing Jiang Yu just staring, Niley grew annoyed.
If not for Jiang Yu, she would be spending time bonding with her little husband right now.
Jiang Yu became furious at those words. "So you finally admit it! You did break my arm!"
Then she looked at Jiang Mier and Gu Chen, but both of them looked calm, completely unaffected by what Niley had said. She gritted her teeth and glared at Gu Chen. "You both knew!"
"But you just watched and said nothing. One of you is my husband, the other is my son!"
"You're siding with outsiders! You've known her for how long, and now you don't even care about your own wife and mother anymore? Unbelievable!"
After being under Jiang Yu's control for decades, both Jiang Mier and his son flinched at her sudden outburst.
When Jiang Yu rushed at them, they didn't even move.
But just as she was about to reach them, a gust of mysterious wind swept her up and flung her away, breaking her other arm.
The father and son watched the strange scene, glancing at each other.
A moment later, they both smiled and said at the same time, "Karma."
Sure enough, it was karma.
Jiang Yu had come to cause trouble over her broken arm, but now she had another one broken. And this time, they both saw it—no one touched her, it was just the wind.
She couldn't possibly scam the wind, right?
Lying on the ground, Jiang Yu screamed in pain, but deep inside, she was terrified.
What kind of weird thing was this? Last night Niley broke one arm and warned her. Today she provoked her again, and now the other arm was broken too.
Maybe Niley really was cursed!
Swallowing hard, she crawled away as fast as she could. She couldn't stay here any longer. She'd find someone to deal with Niley first, then come back later.
Jiang Mier watched her leave and turned to Niley. "We're just letting her go?"
Niley nodded.
Jiang Yu wouldn't be causing trouble again anytime soon, and she probably wouldn't be back for a while.
Seeing Mier sigh with a bit of regret, Niley smiled and tiptoed to rub his head. He leaned in obediently so she could reach.
"What a pity. Would've been better if it were her leg."
Niley chuckled at that. Looked like she'd need to fulfill her little husband's wish next time. Hopefully, Jiang Yu wouldn't let her down.
"Mier has his reasons. Don't take his words to heart." Gu Chen, hearing Mier's comment, felt a jolt of worry. He quickly glanced at Niley's expression, afraid she might be turned off by Mier's harshness.
But Niley didn't care. After seeing the scars on Mier's body last night, she had a good idea what kind of life he'd lived.
The fact she didn't seriously hurt Jiang Yu already counted as her being merciful. After all, that was still his mother.
"Papa, wife left you breakfast. I'll go get it." Mier, knowing he'd spoken out of turn, quickly used that as an excuse to escape before his father could scold him.
"Papa, come in and eat something." Niley also invited Gu Chen into the courtyard.
"No, wait!"
Just as they stepped into the yard, they heard Mier shout.
Gu Chen froze, unsure what to do. Niley quickly rushed to the kitchen, and just happened to see Mier coming out with food for his father.
Seeing his papa frozen, Mier felt guilty and tried to comfort him. "Papa, I'll bring it to you. The room's a mess, I..."
"It's fine. I've been around. I know what's going on."
Mier was about to explain, face red with embarrassment, but his words and expression only made his father misunderstand.
Seeing this, Mier let out a sigh of relief. Let him misunderstand—it was easier.
The two of them brought the food to the house next door. Niley narrowed her eyes, feeling something was off with Mier.
Even though he hated Jiang Yu, he was still close to his father. It didn't make sense for him to keep him out of the house—unless it was because of what was inside the room.
Tsk. Poor guy.
Next door.
They placed the food on the table, but Gu Chen didn't rush to eat. He only looked at his son with concern.
"How are you feeling? Does it hurt anywhere?"
Mier looked confused and frowned. "What?"
Gu Chen blushed, then tapped his son's forehead. "Didn't you consummate your marriage last night? How did she treat you?"
"Papa! That's embarrassing!"
