His office table was in disarray, leaving Charles unsure of where to begin his tasks. He just sighed, sat down in his chair, and rubbed his temples.
He didn't know if Felix's decision to involve the twins and their brother in Fuego was right.
Occasionally, I can't grasp that man's mind. He just shook his head while tidying up the mess on his desk.
He hasn't slept yet because Giovane has been making him do things, like spying on those who are tarnishing his father's name. When elections are near, it will be clear who is power-hungry and who serves the people.
Such events are not new to him; he needs to do the job assigned to him by Giovane, along with the plan to gradually destroy the warehouse and collaborate with outsiders.
He must be careful now that he knows Giovane will find out everything he does and why he's in the organization.
Well, it will be a do-or-die situation, and I'm ready for it. He thought to himself as he caressed the weapon at his side.
He pulled out his phone, the sole device that housed all his contact numbers outside the organization. If his brother Jake is being careful, he too is cautious with every item he owns because he knows someone is also tailing him now.
He will call Felix first. He just sighed while his phone was ringing.
"Charles, did you call?" the person on the other line asked.
He took a deep breath first. "How is everything inside the organization while I was away?" he asked his companion.
"Who are you asking about? The person inside the organization or your boss?" he asked him.
He just shook his head, not answering, because he knew Felix was teasing him again; he wasn't wrong, because Felix even laughed on the other end of the line.
"Well, they're doing okay; there's no problem. If you're asking about your cousin Chesca, for now, she's safe." His voice became serious.
"What do you mean by that?"
"For now, she is safe in the eyes of his brother Giovane. Mikaela and Chesca are currently searching for the two. You also know that Giovane is searching for the right opportunity to catch the two."
"Say, do you see this in your vision?" he asked.
"No, but I'm aware that your boss's strategy might also take that turn. What will you do to Mikaela? Will you use her to get closer to the Fuego family? Will you also let Mikaela get hurt, just like what happened to Jasmin?" Felix continued to ask him questions in rapid succession.
Charles clenched his fists at his questions, which is why he sometimes doesn't want to talk to Felix, because he knows exactly how to make him angry and heat his head, especially now that he's trying him again.
"Don't get mad, I'm just asking. I trust you won't overreact to my question, Charles."
"I'm not a child anymore, so I won't get annoyed by what you're saying now…"
"Oh, that's good; let's just help each other so that no more youth will be harmed by wicked souls."
"You are truly fulfilling your role as a spy and everything that entails." He could only shake his head.
He even heard him laugh. "Well, just like you, I have something to protect, Charles. You know the feeling of losing a loved one."
He didn't say anything more then. There was no need to slap him with that truth, because he felt the pain caused by the loss of a sibling that still seems like a nightmare always following him.
"Let's carry out our mission, Felix; that's why I called you." He changed the subject to get them back to their business as usual.
"Well, if you say so, just like our usual routine, we'll meet in a secluded place."
"Got it."
"But be careful, someone might be following you. Be cautious; you don't even know that there are eyes watching your every move, Charles."
"Who? Giovane?"
"No, he's superior to your boss; you're aware that he harbors deep hatred for you, Charles."
He only smirks. "You need not remind me of that; we can simply engage in a game of hide-and-seek if that is his preference."
"Ha! I like that confidence you have! Well, see you." Felix even said that.
Charles immediately ended the call, deleted his recent calls, and deleted that number. It's better for him to be cautious. Felix's claim that the father of Giovane's men was following him resonated with him.
He looked at the scattered items on his table. He needs to tidy up the mess on his table now. Sleepiness is also starting to visit him, and he needs to rest his eyes.
Suddenly, someone called him.
"Where are you?" was the only question he heard when he answered the call.
"Mikaela, I'm working." He said.
"I'm sorry, but your request is urgent; you need to know that I will be taking action now."
Charles furrowed his brow at what he heard from the other person.
"Taking action?" He was just scratching his head; he wasn't in the mood to understand what she wanted to say.
"I'm going back to our mansion."
"Huh?!" Charles asked in surprise. "Why?"
"I need to find out something; I need to look for something important."
"Are you insane, Mikaela?" He could only shake his head at what he heard now.
"I need to do it. I will sneak into our house; don't worry about it. I have someone with me."
"Whatever, don't blame me when you get into trouble with every decision you make."
Mikaela didn't answer. "That's all, thank you." She said that and immediately hung up.
For goodness' sake! Charles could only exclaim in his mind, shaking his head and sitting back down at his previously cleaned table.
He didn't know what was running through the mind of the woman he was watching over now.
She's not my priority; I need to focus on my own priorities.
